Karey is one of the best piano teachers my children have ever had. She adapts to each of my children’s style of learning and is very thoughtful in her approach in teaching them technique and theory. She is so personable and friendly, and my kids have no problem communicating with her and asking her questions. They feel very comfortable around her and always leave their lesson happy. We were so sad that she moved to go on to graduate school, but we are happy for her successful career. She is a true gem, and any child (and parent) will be very lucky to have her as their teacher.Jun 21, 2020
Taking lessons with Ms. Karey has been one of the best choices for our daughter’s education. Ms. Karey is able to teach exactly where the student is at & push just enough that the practice time at home is real and fosters growth. My daughter has had lessons for 6 months and we hope she can continue until she moves to college. When looking for any mentor, especially one on one, it’s best to find someone who can push without creating discouragement. Also, a teacher who can really explain the questions at hand until the student understands. We really appreciate Ms. Karey’s love for music, the piano, and knowledge for exceptional pieces of music to bring a great love for the incredible piano to our daughter.Jun 25, 2020
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? My rates are based on the time of the lesson either 30, 45, 60, or 90 min. There is a one time per family registration fee of $35, no matter how many kids you enroll or what the length of lessons you choose. Payment Options: I charge by the month, and require payment for the following month ahead of time. So, for example, when you initially start lessons, you will pay the initial one-time-per-family registration fee and the month of lessons. After that, on the 28th of each month, the following month is due. I require 30 days notice of discontinuing lessons, unless it is a family emergency. Failure to pay: If you fail to pay by 3 days after the due date, you will discontinue to have lessons until you pay in full. My schedule usually fills each school year, so if you fail to pay, you may risk losing your spot permanently. Discounts/Refunds: I do not give refunds unless an extraordinary circumstance occurs. I do have a makeup lesson policy which is found in my studio policy. I occasionally offer seasonal discounts and referral credits. Please inquire at the time of registration.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? You are welcome to schedule a trial 30 minute consultation with me for one time per student for $20. Some times I do run specials for introductory lessons so please inquire! During this trial lesson, we get to know each other, I explain a bit about my teaching style, we talk about your goals as a student and why you want to study music, and then we'll have a mini lesson so you can get a feel for what you should expect. Parents, I require that you attend this first time lesson with your child. After we meet, you can let me know immediately, or contact me within the week to let me know if you are interested in starting lessons, at which time, as long as I feel it would be a good fit as well, we will schedule our regular weekly lesson time. This time would be your reserved time every week.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have been teaching both piano and voice lessons for over 20 years. I have had piano pedagogy courses in both my undergrad and graduate degree studies from accredited universities. I have my Bachelor of Arts in Music Degree and minor in Vocal Performance from University of Oregon and my Masters of Music in Solo Piano Performance from Portland State University. I am currently working on my second Masters of Music in Collaborative Piano at Arizona State, and studying with Dr. Andrew Campbell. I am a current and active member of the Arizona Music Teachers Association as well as the National Music Teachers Association. I have had the opportunity to prepare students for their Syllabus/Arizona Study Exams, and ABRSM exams as well as college Music Theory Entrance Exams and auditions.I have been a vocal coach for community and collegiate Opera and Musical Theater productions and have also played multiple roles in Musical Theater Productions throughout the years. I currently collaborate regularly with other musicians throughout the Phoenix area and perform on a regular basis.
