- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing varies greatly depending on the order. Each cake order is priced first based on ingredients and number of servings; then by the details such as sugarwork, specialty 3D shapes, fondant vs. buttercream frosting, the amount of detail in the decorations, etc. Delivery in Tucson, Vail, Green Valley, and Marana is always free.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am self-taught, but I am constantly taking courses online and keeping up with the latest trends in cake decorating. If I see something new happening in wedding magazines, I'll be the first to give it a try on the next cake. My husband is lucky to be the resident taste-tester for all the trial cakes.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
It all started when my best friend's daughter turned 1. The cake she requested was beautifully decorated on the outside, but ended up with box-mix FUNFETTI on the inside instead of the homemade strawberry cake she ordered. She burst into tears when she cut the cake. I promised her I'd never let that happen to my "niece" again! She deserves the best there is to offer, and who better than "auntie" to make sure every detail is accounted for? And Blue Lotus was born from that promise to my bestie.
