We recently talked to Dave Krauss, a Thumbtack user who recently did that terrifying “pack up all your worldly belongs and tote them across multiple state lines to start over somewhere else” thing.
Turns out, Thumbtack is perfect for the newly displaced. It’s an automatic resource for getting your home set up and learning how to handle life in a new city.
“As a recent transplant to Dallas, Thumbtack has been a life saver,” says Krauss. “I grew up and lived in Boston and even if I didn’t know a reliable contractor, I could simply ask around and find one pretty quickly.” Then he left the East Coast and found himself in Texas.
“Starting over in a new city without a network has its challenges,” he admits. “But just today I hired my fourth professional using Thumbtack.” When he moved to Dallas, he bought an apartment, but it needed a lot of work. “I didn’t want to hire a general contractor and pay the markup on all the trades. I wanted to do it myself.” Thumbtack helped him hire a carpenter, interior painter, electrician and carpet cleaner.
“Most of the quotes arrive on my phone within two hours of posting the job,” Krauss says. “As it turns out, Thumbtack actually makes finding good help in Dallas easier than it ever was at home in Boston. I couldn’t be more satisfied.”
