We’re told summer is the time to chill. Relax by the pool. Beat the heat. But for a lot of people, adults and kids alike, learning doesn’t stop when school lets out.
Last year, Thumbtack helped a quarter-million Americans find a tutor, coach, or instructor to help them improve all kinds of skills, from swimming to Swahili lessons.
We recently dug into the numbers to find out what types of lessons are most in demand on Thumbtack. If you’re a pro specializing in any of these categories, here’s a snapshot of what your potential customers may be looking to learn this summer.
Music to our ears.
Nearly 40 percent of all lessons requested on Thumbtack are in the music and singing categories. Piano is the most common instrument our students want to learn, followed closely by guitar, drum, and violin. For others, voice lessons are in high demand.
Let’s get physical.
The word “athletic” may bring back memories of high school gym class, but students on Thumbtack are looking to exercise their athletic abilities with everything from archery to Zumba. We took a look at the data and found a wide spread in what students are looking for. Here’s a few of the most popular athletic requests.
Train their brains.
Educators spend a lot of time worrying about the well-documented phenomenon of “brain drain.” Simply put, if your mind doesn’t stay active over the long hot summer, you can lose the benefits of months of instruction. At Thumbtack, we see parents combating this by requesting math, writing, and science tutors to keep their kids learning year-round.
Speaking our language.
Thumbtack is a great place to go for students of all ages looking for help in a new language or to brush up on rusty skills that haven’t been used in a while. We’ve connected thousands of instructors with students looking to learn every language from Arabic to Urdu.
