With more than 16,000 Thumbtack professionals in five boroughs, New York City is among the largest, most competitive places to own a small business in the country.
To celebrate the hard work of Top Pros in the city, Thumbtack CEO Marco Zappacosta recently welcomed several dozen Thumbtack small business owners to a meetup in their honor. From dog groomers to handymen, pros of all stripes came together to trade tips and talk shop. Accountants and photographers shared their Thumbtack stories, while lawyers and professional home organizers swapped business cards.
We heard from professionals about what it takes to build a successful small business in New York City—everything from market-appropriate pricing and stellar reviews, to maintaining a speedy response time when sending quotes. We also listened eagerly for feedback on how Thumbtack can help pros succeed even more in today’s economic landscape.
Pros told us what’s working: an expert support team focused on answering customers’ questions and solving their needs, a fair refund policy for unopened quotes and a Top Pro badge that helps highlight pros’ expertise to name a few.
We also heard feedback about how we can improve, like capturing more relevant information from customers upfront to help make quoting more specific and creating new tools that help track pros’ performance on Thumbtack. We are so grateful to pros for sharing their on-the-ground insights and look forward to making running a business on Thumbtack more effective than ever in 2017.
