The U.S. Personal Chef Association (USPCA) held its annual conference July 7-10 in Providence, Rhode Island and we were excited to be there to exhibit, present and spend time with many of the personal chefs using Thumbtack to grow their business.
Chefs from all over the country dropped by our booth to tell us how we’ve helped them grow, and of course, to get an awesome Thumbtack apron. More importantly, we had constructive conversations and gained great insight into what we need to do to help personal chefs succeed.
Some of the big themes we heard centered on educating customers about the nuances within the industry, such as differences between caterers, personal chefs and private chefs—and the price expectations for each. We’re already working on clarifying these details in our request forms so that as a chef, you’ll get better information from consumers from the outset.
We also hosted two sessions at the conference titled “Marketing Secrets of Successful Chefs” to share what we’ve learned about how to use online marketing, social media and tools like Thumbtack to find new customers. But the real stars of the session were our panelists: Mark Hardin of The Purple Fig, Fab Goldberg of BBC Catering, and Chris Hoffman of Cristo’s Kitchen—three successful personal chefs who have more than doubled their business with smart online marketing techniques. They offered valuable insights into the types of online marketing available to personal chefs today—and how and where to invest your time and money.
Overall, the conference provided us with the opportunity to receive in-depth and honest feedback from the real experts in the personal chef category and understand what you need from us to thrive. The community of chefs representing Thumbtack is special and we’re thrilled to be deepening our relationship with so many of you.
