Halloween is just a few weeks away, which means you can wait until the last minute, cut two holes in a sheet, and call yourself a ghost – or you can start planning now so you have one of the most gruesome (or gorgeous) costumes on your block. Here are ten of what will be the most popular costumes on the people knocking on your door for candy, all of which are pretty easy to pull together with just a little creativity and, if you want to go all out, the help of a costume consultant.
Taylor Swift and Her “Bad Blood” Squad
First, you’ll need to fight it out over who gets to be Taylor, but truth be told, all of the women in the “Bad Blood” video are pretty badass, so everyone wins. This one’s not too hard to pull off either; all you need is a squad, fake weapons, dramatic makeup, and lots of sexy black clothing, complete with thigh-highs.
“Mad Men” Characters
It’s probably the last year to pay homage to “Mad Men” since the series ended in May. Still, this is a perfect chance to dress up like your favorite character. You can be Betty in a house coat and pearls with cigarette in hand and perfectly coiffed bob, Don wearing an impeccably tailored suit and hat, Roger Sterling in a three-piece suit (silver hair required), or Joan in a sexy fitted dress with red wig. This is another great group costume if you can get the right whiskey-drinking friends on board.

No one can forget the real star of last February’s Super Bowl: Left Shark, Katy Perry’s dancing shark who proved to the world that sometimes the best way to have fun is to not pay attention to any choreography and just shake it how ya wanna. Major bonus points if you show up to the party with a Katy Perry and a Right Shark by your side.

Two Dancing Girls Emoji
There will probably be lots of emojis out there on Halloween night, but the Two Dancing Girls emoji is sure to be popular since as innocent as it is on screen, it totally translates into two “sexy” dancing girls thanks to the leotards and bunny ears. You’ll want to wear a blonde bob wig to really bring this one to life.
Whether you’re a grownup, a kid, a dog, or a cat, there’s a good chance you’ll look totally adorable as a minion. This is another one you could buy at the store, but will probably get a lot more “ooohs” “ahhhs” and however you say “cute” in Minion if you make it yourself. Want to take it to another level? Find two friends and dress up like the minions dressed up like the three little pigs in the movie “Minions.”
It’s a great day for America when a political candidate has a distinct look that is totally Halloween costume-worthy. You can buy a Trump mask on Amazon and there are also Donald-inspired wigs. Just remember: The hair is the most important part of this costume, so make sure you get it right or, yes: you’re fired.

Jon Snow from “Game of Thrones”
Spoiler Alert: Jon Snow died in the season five finale of “Game of Thrones” which means he’ll be all over the place this Halloween. Again, while this is a costume you can buy in a store, it’s also one you can easily make at home or with the help of a professional. And yours will look way better, tousled hair, scruffy beard, furry cape and all.
Adults and kiddos love to dress up like super heroes, especially if there’s a cape involved. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are popular for boys, while Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman will all be hits with dads and moms thanks to the 2016 release of “Batman vs. Superman.” Our advice for any super hero costume? Go retro.

Star Wars Characters
With the seventh Star Wars film being released in December (The Force Awakens!), Star Wars characters are some of the most-popular costume options adult, kids and pet costumes this year. Between Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Yoda, there’s a character for everyone in the family.
Ladybugs, kitty cats, bumble bees… Animal costumes never go out of style for Halloween. Whether it’s for a grownup or a baby, this is another category that will have a much bigger wow factor if it’s something you make at home or with the help of a costume consultant. If you’re not going to be super original with your idea, at least be super original with the finished product, right?
