Nice guy, not just cut and paste responses. really cares and is funny and real. So much better then going to see a nutritionist in a doc office and cheaper. So awesome to just text him everything

I met with Christy Nelson and spoke with her my goals including what health issues I have. She is very knowledgable and I was impressed that she had taken the initiative to prior to meeting with me she already had looked up some of the concerns & health issues I have. She is not only knowledgable but also good spirited, I felt very comfortable speaking with her openly. I am continuing to work with her as my health/nutritionist advisor. I have told all my friends & family members of this service called thumbtack and will continue to use your service for future needs. Thank you Rochell Miller

Pamela did an incredible job in helping to prepare me for, during, and after pregnancy. She gave great bespoke preconception recommendations and advice, leading to an easy pregnancy and my beautiful, happy and healthy baby. She also helped me postpartum to get my health and body back on track. She’s not only extremely knowledgeable and passionate in her field, but she’s also very caring and sensitive. I genuinely couldn’t recommend a better holistic nutritionist for pre and postnatal care!

My name is Brett Beck and I have had the pleasure to work with Lela for over two years now. She was someone that was always on time, positive attitude, outgoing and always went out of her way to help out with any task. Working with her clients she was always very detailed and personable. She understands people and how to work with different personalities to push those individuals to hit there goals or over all better themselves. I definitely would recommend her for anyone that needs training or nutrition. Thanks Brett

I had been feeling tired and sick all the time and going through a plethora of unknown skin allergies and emotions and a friend of mine suggested I talk to a dietitian/nutritionist. I met with Sascha and as I began to explain my long drawn out physical issues, she asked me a few simple questions and was able to give me an analysis of exactly what I needed to change my diet and eating habits to help improve my overall wellness. It was much more detailed than just your standard diet and excercise and she provided me with a plan that was suited to me. I'm grateful to Sascha for spending that time with me and giving me the expert perspective I needed. And I'm glad to report I'm feeling better, more energized, and I now enjoy looking for the healthier organic food options because I know they make me feel better!

I have been trying to get into the whole Yoga thing to help with a shoulder injury but never was motivated to pull the trigger. However, taking a private yoga class on the beach next to the Santa Monica pier had my interest a little more piqued. Dianna's instructions were great and made me feel like it was ok to be an beginner. She explained the overall themes of practicing Yoga, a little yoga history (which was cool) as well as breaking down all the positions pretty seamlessly. Overall, it was a great experience and a great workout as I was sore the next day which was quite surprised about since I frequent the gym on a regular basis. Lastly, she peppered in (food pun intended) some nutritional ideas to go along with the Yoga experience which I thought was pretty cool. I highly recommend Dianna as teacher as it seemed like a unique type of experience and her added knowledge of nutrition seemed like as great bonus.

Before I started working with Beth, I felt like I had done everything I knew how to do to get my health, weight, and fitness where I wanted it to be. I'd waded through all of the conflicting information out there and done my best with it. I had counted my calories, exercised, avoided processed foods when I could, and while I made some decent progress I could never seem to get past a certain point before I'd get completely derailed and have to start over again. It seemed like everything I tried was unpleasant and unsustainable. I was clearly missing something and that's when I considered seeing a nutritionist. I heard about Beth's workshop "Cravings Decoded" from a friend, and from that presentation I was able to see that Beth didn't have a "program" she was selling, or a template system. What she had to offer was foundational nutrition knowledge that was grounded in facts, fad-free, and made a lot more sense than the factoids and tips I'd read in articles or gimicky diet publications. After a consultation I decided to sign up for her three month program, and it has been one of the best things I've done for myself. When I sum up what I learned with Beth, it was like starting over and being re-taught how to eat. I gained a true understanding of what you are doing to yourself, good and bad, when deciding what foods to eat. I can read food like a language, understanding the varied contexts, and can see through deceptive marketing with ease. I have new and better tools for dealing with temptation, I have the power of forgiveness for lapses so they do not become derailments, and what's more I have gained a true liking and appreciation for food that I once would have considered a chore to eat. Beth's process is a gradual one that both respects and challenges what you like and don't like. One small change at a time, many which seem easy but for the harder ones you have a great coach who really puts herself forward to get you through those hurdles. She also set me right on what amount and types of exercise I needed to incorporate into my routine to reach my fitness goals. The results from everything have been wonderful- I hit my weight goal, am on a straight tangent to my ultimate fitness goals, and all of the changes I worked for now feel normal and natural. In the past when I'd fall off of a routine I was trying, it would take a monumental effort to get back to it. I don't have that problem any more, because if for some reason (like the holidays) I eat unhealthy or if challenges with my schedule throw off my fitness routines, I revert back to it quickly because it's what's normal, and what feels right. I feel great in every aspect, I have changed the things I wanted to but didn't know how. I just needed someone to show me how, and that person was Beth.

I sought out Rande's help for my teenage son who struggles with a persistent rash on either side of his nose. She put him on a restricted diet for three months and recommended a Vitamin A protocol to help calm his histamine reaction. Within days of starting the protocol, in combination with the diet, his rash all but disappeared! He is now motivated to stay on the diet and finally is convinced that it matters what he puts in his body. We are so thankful to Rande.

I'm new to writing a thumbtack review, but an expert at divining great services from other thumbtack reviewers. So I thought I should finally dip my toe into this world of posting reviews with a person offering services that I strongly believe in... Dev, of OMChef, has touched my life over the past 6 years. I met her through a word of mouth referral as I needed some prepared food while I was nursing my first child and I was hoping to lose some baby weight in the process. She would bring the most beautiful, healthy organic food prepared and packaged with a conscious. She completely educated me on GMO's, food chemistry, environmental awareness of our products and how to best nourish our bodies with the foods we love and some we learn to love. I lost the weight, but not my friendship and knowledge. Our paths crossed again almost 4 yrs later (this past year) when I was diagnosed with Cancer. You would think after eating healthier and paying more attention I wouldn't get cancer at 42. Well I got a really rare sarcoma in my soft tissue of my leg.. This cancer has nothing to do with the food I put in my body. With that said, I knew I wanted to be as clean and green as possible and have the support of Dev to provide nourishing meals for myself and family as I went through Chemo / Radiation / Surgery and recovery. She talked with me before I started this process and informed about what to expect. This was so eye-opening because I sat with the staff nutritionist at the hospital who didn't explain half the things that Dev imparted to me. Dev took on the task to help me and family and I couldn't have been in better hands. She created menus to match my changing taste buds almost the night before a delivery. She created this wonderful little picnic baskets for my long chemo days at the hospital. She would also put together family meals for the days I felt better. Truly, I can't speak more highly of OmChef, Dev, and the support to my recovery.... Please please check out OMChef. She does a host of things: catering private parties, food delivery, cancer patient food support, culinary instruction (great present - gift certificates), shopping / food prep for families and busy professionals. Go to her website you will be thrilled you found her. omchef.com oh by the way, I'm cancer free!

Intuitive Eating is where it is at for me. I believe life is to be enjoyed while being mindful. Lisa has an important message: trust yourself. Find out if you are eating because of hunger or something else. If it is not hunger, one can go to the next step and figure out (not easy) what is it that is bothering them. I found out I eat out of boredom. Now, I try to stop. The only pressure in this work is to listen to your own voice. I hope everyone will do this work. I also, learned by the end of the week the body balances its nutritional intake. Thank you, Lisa.

Amy Jo was wonderful. I needed a nutritionist to talk with my daughter about the importance of heating healthy and to make a custom meal plan for my daughter's needs. She did both and connected so well with my daughter that we will are planning to have a few more one-on-one sessions with her for some cooking and fitness training.

I first met Andrea about two years ago, to help me eat healthier and improve my lifestyle. She's been tremendous, and more importantly I've had results. I've lost weight, but I'm really proud of the way it happened. With Andrea, it's not about crash dieting. It's about choosing the right foods, and the right portions. I used to eat Fast Food almost 10 times a week! But I have pretty much stopped completely, and definitely no more McDonalds. I now eat foods like kale, flaxseed, oatmeal, tofu, that I normally wouldn't have eaten. And I feel much better for it. Andrea had the perfect attitude for me. She was pushy enough, without being too pushy to make me give up. She was always honest, but encouraging. The fact that she believed in me, helped me believe in myself. I'd really recommend Andrea to anyone looking to lose weight, but more importantly to feel better and healthier.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Are nutritionists covered by health insurance?

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.

How much does a nutritionist cost?

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.
