Larry did the video for my grandfather's memorial service. He was on time. He was professional, and he really brought a level of sympathy and understanding to the situation. He was kind and caring when interviewing people for their experiences and memories, and I am so grateful I was able to have the privilege to work with Larry. He was trained and equipped to capture video angles during the event, and he had the right equipment and microphones to handle audio and video recording. He went above and beyond, recording all those who wanted to share a memory and it really meant a lot to all who interacted with him. He accomplished great video and sound quality both indoor and outdoor for our staged event of more than 300 people. Thank you Larry!

I had an amazing studio experience with Kyle. I hired him for a sound project for a school fundraiser and was blown away by his talent and professionalism. He went above and beyond in that he even helped me find a singer/artist for the project. The audio footage is amazing now I can’t wait to shoot the corresponding video. If you’re looking for a great studio experience I highly recommend him. I can’t wait to work with him again.

Ilja did a fantastic job with a rather complex set up for a professional 70th birthday party. He made the sound work on a site he'd never been at before, and managed to capture everything during a very busy event. Afterwards he put in the extra work to synchronous audio, video, and slides, plus footage from two cameras. He aims to please and I could not recommend him more highly. It was great to work with a local Berkeley vendor too.

He was available and flexible with the scheduling of the shoot which involved balancing a number of different schedules, and when things didn't go according to plan he improvised ensuring that we got all of the footage necessary for our project to be a success. Audio quality in the interviews was well done and his b-roll footage was amazing! Definitely recommend his work and look forward to working with him again!

Keida was so awesome and easy to work with! He did my wedding video and we were THRILLED. My sister and a couple close friends are in the video production business so they’re always extra critical with videos and they said they could not stop watching it over and over, they LOVED it so much! After I posted it to social media I even received several out-of-the-blue text messages from random people in my life saying how it made them cry, made them laugh, and it was absolutely beautiful! Keida is extremely responsive and on top of his work and is constantly weaving his passion for his work into how he makes his videos. There was some problems with how the microphone picked up my husbands vows and Keida went out of his way to send the audio to another professional (completely free of charge!) to have it cleaned up and perfected so that my video would be just that much more perfect. He even went out of his way to kindly suggest music that really captured the right vibe of the video and how the evening was- it was perfect!! Talk about reliving that day! Thank you so so much, Keida! I hired Keida off of thumbtack after reading other reviews so if you’re reading this, yes, this is a sign you should definitely inquire- it’s hard to find such an awesome, easy-to-work-with, hardworking, passionate-about-his-craft videographer these days, especially at his fair and amazing prices. Great experience, can’t say enough good things, thank you again Keida!

Ben has done an outstanding job on recording and editing an audio book with a business focus. This was no small task because the content was part straight-read and part instructional and part...hmmm -- not sure what to call it. Essentially, the style had to be markedly different for three sections. Ben "got" that right away and provided excellent, clear guidance. Ben's work was swift, professional, and supportive. He also made the process easy and is fun to hang out with -- yet another plus when working on tough content. The result is an outstanding product at a very fair price. I highly recommend Petting Zoo Studio and will use their services again.

My husband and I had a great experience working with John at our wedding. The sound quality of the video turned out great (which I was worried about with an outdoor wedding) and he captured all the special moments. He had the complete edited video ready for us within a week of the wedding! Plus, he is a great value for what you get. Would definitely recommend him!

Ian exceeded expectations in the following ways: 1) Willing to go the extra mile. a. Right up front, while in the RFP stage he researched into our request for a specific format and shared his findings. It was obvious he had done more than a surface dive into the requested format. He came back with specifics including what the cost was for purchasing the software to be able to deliver the videos in the specialized format. The cost of the software was prohibitive for him to purchase independent of our paying for it, but he gave additional technical information to help us troubleshoot through the process of how to make things work on our end. b. The first session included some technical difficulties, and so he also videotaped the last session on day 2, which was a repeat of the first session. His motivation was in wanting to deliver a quality product. 2) Flexible a. There was little time between my first contacting him and the job starting. We could not be flexible on the dates and so he made changes in his schedule. b. There were changes on our side of the equation on multiple levels and he accommodated without issue. c. Extremely accommodating about payment and followed up when he did receive payment. 3) He delivered exactly what he promised. a. Quality of the audio/video and editing was great b. He delivered on time c. He communicated updates along the way. 4) Very easy to work and communicate a. He was always pleasant and respectful in every communication and throughout the 2-days of videotaping. b. He was very approachable and quick to respond to requests and communications. Bottom line His bid was not the cheapest or the most expensive that came in, but he was the most helpful and consistently responsive to communications. I could tell by the questions he asked and how he asked them that he had passion for what he does and it is not just a job to make money. What is important to him is delivering the highest quality product. would not hesitate in the future to work with him again for similar needs. highest recommends

What work was performed? How long did it last? Rick ran the video room/was the lead video engineer for our recent Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers show at the Sweetwater Music Hall. We streamed the show live through our website. The event ran from about 8-12pm. What impressed you about the service? What qualities about the service professional stood out? Rick is great. He's been a huge source of information about all things video/streaming and his actual work in the room was great, creating a pretty much perfect stream. He's also very easy to work with, easy going and gracious. What would have improved your experience? What would you like to see the service professional do in the future? I really have nothing negative to say, and i wouldn't even be able to make a suggestion. I look forward to working with Rick again soon and have dates on the books to do so.

Recently, Jippidy.com made two videos for my spa business. Their team members, particularly, Julian Martinez, George, Chris Videographer and all others who worked behind the curtain did excellent work for me. They coordinated video shoot, audio, script, music and everything very nicely, smoothly and friendly. I and my family and customers are very glad to see the videos. I sincerely appreciate their great job and cooperation. I will certainly take their help in near future. Thanks alot to Jippidy and their team.

            Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

            • Package 1: $1,400
              • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
              • Two cameras with audio equipment.
              • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
              • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
            • Package 2: $1,800
              • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
