Miguel explained my daughter's Calculus 1 Math problem really well. His knowledge and concept about this subject is very good. We will be planning to have another tutoring lesson with him very soon! We highly recommend him as a tutor! Best, DeepaOct 27, 2019Verified
Our teenage twins were struggling with keeping up in Geometry, according to them every week the teachers were introducing a new concept. We signed them up for after school tutorial with the school, which helped but nightly they were both going to bed stressed out. Today, while my daughter was preparing breakfast she started crying. I sat them down and told them I didn’t want to see them stressing and at this point I will settle for them passing the class with a C this semester just to take their stress levels down and asked if they wanted outside tutoring. They both jumped at the opportunity, long story short. After reading reviews of several tutors Miguel was very responsive and ready to work with them on the spot. We jumped at the opportunity and they completed 2 hours of tutorial with him. According to the kids...it was worth it!! We have already scheduled another session and we intend to continue working with Miguel. Thank you Miguel!!Oct 20, 2019Verified

His teaching is very high quality, he teaches concepts in a very comprehensive and concise manner. He is very punctual and responsive to the needs of the student. He also provides useful notes for later reference. Overall, he is an excellent tutor for a great value.Oct 19, 2019Verified
My high school sophomore son had only a few days to prepare for his chemistry mid-term and Miguel was more than capable to take on the challenge. His teaching style was clear and he was very knowledgeable about the subject matter. We've scheduled additional classes with him. Highly recommended!Oct 31, 2019Verified

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? My rate is usually $70/hour for in-person tutoring and $50/hour for online tutoring via zoom, skype, or google hangouts. Since I am new to Thumbtack my rate will be $30/hour for online tutoring sessions for a limited time.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I would like get as much background information about the student/tutee that I will be supporting during our session. Examples of background information include subject (such as calculus, chemistry, physics, ect.), topic (adding fractions, finding the derivative, electronic configurations, ect.), learning differences that the student may have or areas in which the student struggles, student's strengths and weaknesses. If the student can explain this to me even better!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I am currently a math and science teacher working at a private school in Albany, CA where I have worked for 6 years and have 13 years of experience tutoring at community colleges, I also supervised math tutors at UC Berkeley Academic Service Centers, briefly worked at Mathnasium of Piedmont, and worked for the nonprofit organization Making Waves Education Program in Richmond, CA. I have tutored and taught students of all age groups but I have worked the most with high school and college students.
