Introduction: I have been teaching watercolor painting in small classes for over 20 years. Many of my students have won awards in local art shows and have exhibited in national exhibitions, but I start at whatever level a person begins at. This is why I take no more than six students in a class, and people need to commit to an eight-week class schedule. I teach everything you can imagine about watercolor: how to control your washes, how to make things look out of control when they really aren't, composition, color mixing, deconstructing an image into the layers needed for painting in watercolor, and anything else you can imagine. Note: You will not complete a painting each week in this class; you will learn how paintings are really done. This is not a paint-along class, but you just might learn how to take your painting to another level. Note: If you cannot make one of my regularly scheduled classes or would like a more personal approach, I do teach private lessons either at my place or yours (if you are not too far from Altadena, CA).

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Private lessons are $50/hr with 1 1/2 minimum, arranged at my location. I can come to you, but if you are far away from Altadena, I charge for travel. I also teach classes with no more than 8 students in a class, so it is not too crowded. They meet in Altadena or Montrose. Info on my website.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When teaching watercolor, I first try to find out what a student's goals are and what they have done in the past. I often teach people who are starting from NO experience. Meaning they don't even draw. Others have extensive experience and knowledge. So we start wherever they are now, and explore where they want to go. I cover everything from composition, color mixing, controlling paint, using layers - you name it, just not all at once.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am essentially self taught/directed in art. I do have a BA in Botany, and an MS in Computer Science, which doesn't directly translate into my work, although my love of plants and flowers prominent in my work.
