Karen came into our home and sat down with us first and listened to all our worries about our puppy. She then quickly explained what was happening and came up with fantastic and different (yet great) approaches to fix our pups behavior. She was defecating on the floor, not eating her food in front of her bowl, and hiding under the couch. Two weeks later we have a dog that is about 70% different than how she used to be! Karen's techniques are great and work for any size dog! Our little Maltipoo puppy is now listening to us and is far more obedient than she used to be.

Dee Cee came to our apartment and within half an hour I saw immense improvement in the relationship between the dog and the cat. She gave us excellent advice and doesn't ask for repeat sessions. I really appreciated her forthcomingness in not giving us any promises but the promise that she was giving us the tools to succeed.

I cannot express in words how happy we are with how Kym took such great care of our puppy, Izzy. When she left for boot camp, she was a disobedient and very difficult puppy to handle. She returned home a happy, obedient and very healthy puppy. I would do it all over with no hesitation- there isn't enough $$ for the value we received. We will continue to keep in touch with Kym for boarding and ongoing training and just to keep in touch - Izzy loved Kym as much as Kym loved her and that was such a comforting feeling.

I boarded my dog for the 4th of July holiday with Superstars stellar home boarding and my dog had a great time playing in the yard and wading pool and was very well rested and calm when I picked him up. I liked that there was only one other dog there and I will definitely use them again.

Really helped with our out of control dog. Taught him (and then us) how to get him under control; sitting, staying etc. We boarded our dog for over two weeks while he was being trained. Dog seemed happy and wanting to work on the things he learned. We would definitely use them again.

I brought my 2 year old male pit bull to Kevin 6 months ago when my dog started experiencing some significant leash aggression towards other dogs. The problem was getting progressively worse and I couldn't walk him with other dogs present (even on the other side of the street). Kevin took him in for training and there has been a huge improvement. My dog is able to walk normally on a leash (doesn't pull like crazy like he used to). He is able to see other dogs on his walk and no longer react (huge improvement!) and he is all around a better trained dog. After the training camp, I had several sessions with Kevin (and my dog walker) and Kevin taught us all the techniques and commands he had used with my dog. Kevin is very responsive and answers all of my questions promptly. I would highly recommend him for training for any dog issues. Kevin also takes dogs in for boarding where he does a little training refresher course. My dog has gone in multiple times since his training whenever I've had to go out of town and my dog really enjoys his time there.

Lisa is a dog walker who TRULY cares about animals. She walked my dog Felix everyday for 2 weeks while we were away. Each night I got text updates and pics of him. She really bonded with him and there were even days she was able to come and give him an extra no-charge bonus walk! My upstairs neighbors commented to me after about how professional she was. After we returned, Felix sat at the door waiting for Lisa to come take him out- he was probably sad to see us come home! We have since used her for daily walks when my husband was traveling as well as another short trip where she was even able to care for my very aggressive French Bulldog who normally must be sent to "dog jail" (ok, a traditional kennel). She requires handling by someone who is very savvy to animal behavior and few caretakers fit the bill. We are thrilled to have found Lisa!

Susan is not just a loving care taker of my dog, Max and my cat, Sir Purrs A Lot, but I think she's actually an animal whisperer. She is my daily dog-walker and has also house/dog/cat sat for a week at a time on many occasions. I completely trust her and know that my animals are in great care when she is with them. I would recommend her highly.

I hired Laurie a couple weeks ago to check in on my cat Zappa. From our first meeting I knew she was not only an animal lover but someone that prides herself on giving excellent service. She is very easy to talk too ,listens, took notes and went over and above on her visits. She sent me pictures and text messages with updates. I have a cat that can be shy and from day one Zappa was comfortable with Laurie. She takes care of all her needs, cleaned up and spent time with Zappa, not just a drive by sitter! I would highly recommend Laurie for all your pet needs!! Karen Zumwalt

We are so glad we picked Jenny as our dog pet sitter! She took care of our dog for 4 days while we were traveling. She was very attentive and kind with our boy and was always sending pictures and messages. Which helped us to see how he was doing. One thing that really amazed us is that our dog was trained in portuguese and Jenny learned somethings just so he could understand her better! Our dog was very happy under Jenny's care and that's the most important part for us. We sure recommend her services.

George has taken care of our 2 dogs several times and we are so happy and thankful. We always know our dogs are in such good care with George. He spends time with the dogs and doesn't just run in to let them out or feed them and then leave. We very highly recommend George to care for your beloved pets!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does boarding a horse cost?

Finding the right horse boarding location is a big step in a horse owner’s life. This will be the place your horse will live and where you will visit multiple times per week or even daily. The cost of horse boarding will depend on the level of service you desire, the location of the stables, and the luxury level of the property. Here are some examples of average horse boarding costs:

  • Overnight stabling: $30 per horse per night.
  • Partial boarding (owner feeds and mucks): $220 per horse per month, with a three-month commitment.
    • Administration of oral medication: $10 per dose.
    • Bandaging: $20 per event, plus cost of materials.
    • Trailering to vet if owner is unable: $25, plus $25 per hour to wait with horse.
  • Basic full boarding: $325-$350 per month per horse. Includes twice daily hay and daily stall cleaning.
    • Horse training: $20 per session.
    • Pasture turn out: $20 per session.
    • Blanketing: $1 per day/$30 per month.
    • Vet or farrier hold: $20. This means haltering the horse and standing with it as it receives treatment or shoeing.

Where can I board my horse?

You can board your horse at any barn or stable that provides horse boarding services. To find horse boarding near you, read reviews of area locations and speak with equestrian friends to find one with a solid reputation. Ideally, the location will be within a reasonable drive from your home or office. This is especially important if you are paying for partial boarding services and are responsible for feeding your horse and cleaning its stall each day. You may choose your boarding barn or stables based on the services they provide. Some offer more extensive amenities — at an added price — that reduce the amount of work you need to do to keep your horse comfortable. Consider whether you want training, blanketing, exercise and other perks in addition to standard offerings like hay and stable mucking. Your stable may have temperament requirements and proof that your horse has the proper vaccinations required by your state. This protects both your horse and the other horses in the stable. Many states require that locations offering horse boarding services have stable licenses that are renewed each year. Always be sure to enter into a clearly written boarding contract that will cover your horse and belongings in case of accident, and remember our tips for smart hiring.

What is horse boarding?

Horse boarding is like rental housing for your horse. Horse boarding is helpful for people who don’t have the space or the resources to install and maintain a stable on their property. A horse can be housed in a barn with other horses and receive the care they need. Owners can visit their horse for riding, grooming, training, etc. Horse boarding services may vary based on the company and the price. Some horse boarders may offer short-term boarding of 24 hours to several nights for people passing through an area, while most offer boarding by the month for horses whose owners live in the area. There is partial- and full-service boarding, which indicates how much of the work of feeding the horse and cleaning the stall is the responsibility of the owner rather than the boarding barn. For an added fee, horse boarding can also include grooming services, riding and training, medication administration, and more.

To find the right boarding fit for you and your horse, make a list of your top priorities. These might include immediate access to riding trails, round-the-clock supervision, or a nearby or affiliated veterinarian. Always visit the site to learn exactly where your horse will be kept and whether the barn and grounds are in good condition. Read reviews, and always practice smart hiring. It’s also critical to sign the proper legal documents that protect both you and your horse, such as boarding agreements. Above all, make sure it seems like a place your horse will be comfortable between your visits.
