We hired Tom after obtaining two other roofing estimates. The other companies told me we needed to replace the entire section of my roof which would cost thousands of dollars. Tom came out and found the problem and fixed only a small section and we saved a substantial amount of money. He was on time, friendly, honest and a professional. We hired him again after our roof had another leak in a different area one month later. We will not hire anyone else but Tom. His knowledge is superior and his work ethic is excellent.

I’m real estate property manager. I met Sal in 2010. Since then I’ve always been impressed with his work. He has done many repairs and improvements such as installing new vinyl windows, including patio sliders. I’ve had him install bathtub/shower enclosures, sinks, toilets, garbage disposers and water heaters. He has replace valves and faucets. He can frame walls, hang and finish drywall beautifully. Recently he installed a stove exhaust hood vent, including cutting the existing cabinets and venting it out the roof. He has hung interior and exterior doors. He can trouble shoot electrical problems, replace circuit breakers, install coax, HDMI and CAT5. I’ve asked him to run new electrical and cable outlets and install TV braces and hang large TVs. I recently had a dishwasher leak in an upstairs apartment that damaged the ceiling below. Sal removed the old damaged ceiling. Ran fans to make sure everything was dry before he installed new drywall and insulation in the kitchen/dining area. He added a brace for a new ceiling fan, which he also installed. He matched the existing drywall texture and painted it. He also installed a new dishwasher upstairs. In addition to all of the above he can unclog drains big and small. This is only a partial list of his abilities; no job is too big or small. He's excellent at problem solving and I’ve yet to find anything he can’t do well. Most of all he’s dependable, honest and fair, not to mention he’s a Marine. I would highly recommend Sal.

Martin and his team were referred to us. We closed on Friday, we fumigated over the weekend, and they had our 1200sq ft house apart Monday morning. Here is what they did in only five weeks: Exterior: -Repaired the fascia -Replaced my window trim on all windows, and two of my windows entirely. -Painted the exterior -Poured a patio -Replaced a large side gate -Built and painted a picket fence -Installed a mailbox -Helped me assemble my patio furniture in their down time -Hauled away two truckloads of garbage from the yard and garage that the prior tenants left -Trimmed the trees to keep the off the roof -Patched the roof -took care of the loose wireing in the garage Interior: -Scraped all ceilings -Ripped out all flooring -Ripped out the tub and shower -Ripped out the vanities -Ripped out the toilets -Ripped out all base boards -Retextured the walls and ceiling -Build two doorways -Built a small wall to fix the hall -Reinstalled the bathrooms with new fixtures -Replaced all the ceiling fans -Replaced two doors to the exterior -stripped my sliding glass door of that terrible fogging-effect plastic - hung fresh bedroom closet doors -new carpet in two rooms -new laminate in the living room, office, hall -new vinyl in the kitchen and bathrooms -new baseboards -new kitchen cabnet with counter to match the others -re hung kitchen cabinets to match the other side (they were low) -full paint -smoke detectors -fire extinguishers -re-wired my unsafe attic -new switches and plates Basically, They made it turn-key, from a total dump. And they stayed within my budget. But what will always stay with me is the sense of deep care and respect I felt every step of the way. Our first experience. Never were we blown off of treated like novices. Every time I share pricing with friends who have had work done on their homes, their eyes bug out at how wonderful our pricing was! They always went above and beyond. Like, meeting other people (the surveyer, the city for utilities, the garage door guy, the Apliance delivery guy) so that I didn't have to take work off. Like lending a hand with our last few boxes when we were moving in. Like staying around until my husband made it home on they day he got lost so that I wouldn't be alone in a new neighborhood after dark. Like working weekends to get it done. Like touching base every day with updates. Like helping me spray my yard with flea killer. Like always having a good laugh ready to share. Like answering my stupid "what-the-heck-is-this" calls weeks later when something native to the neighborhood would turn up (mostly bugs). I am so grateful. Also, It's been months and nothing has gone wrong. Our life carries on (knock on wood), and we don't think about trivial house stuff because it's all done.

They installed solar on my roof and they installed a QuietCool whole house fan which I can control from my smart phone! They added a attic fan and insulation. I selected this company because they do more than just solar, they made my home energy efficient.

Ross is an excellent guy. We wanted to remove an old ridge cap and install a new roof ridge cap. He contacted and gave me a reasonable quote, came on time to start the work, and finished everything fast. Was happy with his work and gave him another job to remove an old solar water heater system sitting on the roof. I would definitely call him for few more things that need to get done around the house. Thanks Ross.

Robert is a very approachable business person who tells it like it is. I personally prefer to hire a person who doesn't blow smoke up my butt. I have used Allens handyman service countless times from complete roof removal and installation, which hasn't had a single leak in over 5 years, to tile, ac, swamp cooler repair, drywall repair and painting, r tc. His prices are almost too low for the quality of work. If I could give 6 stars I would!

Gary replaced my shake roof and installed it with a composition roof. The price was reasonable and the team is great. They also fixed few places where the roof never blushes to the walls. Team all star construction seems to be an amazing company.

Gary has been my contractor for the past 8 years. He truly cares about what he does with his work, and his workmanship shows that. He is very knowledgeable about everything he does and he will not be satisfied with his work unless it's PERFECTLY DONE. I am a very picky, high-demanding person; however, Gary has not failed me once. He has build me a beautiful wooden fence for my home (around 100x150 ft with metal gates), converted my home from propane to natural gas, fixed the roof, sky lights, built the sheds, installed a sink, along with granite counter tops and faucets for my kitchen; created a room and hooked up for the washer & dryer; plowed berms outside of my home when I was snowed in. Not only he is amazing at what he does, he is one of the most caring person that I have ever met in my life, and I completely trust him with everything he does. I will never trust anyone else to get the work done for my house except for Gary. Trust me, you will NOT be disappointed with his work!! If you are looking to get something fixed at perfection, I highly recommend I Can Dig It Construction!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

      • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
        • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
      • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
      • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
      • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
      • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
