- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The prices you see are what I believe is fair compensation for a photographer who has the skills. The photographic categories you see in my profile, such as weddings and events, portraits, corporate, real estate, etc. are all strengths of mine and I assure you that hiring me will yield results that you will truly appreciate. However, if there is a quote you see from me that exceeds your expectations, I encourage you to reach out to me to discuss options. My phone number, that I include in my initial response, is my cell phone and you can call or text me.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Formally, my training in photography started when I was a pre-teen when I sold enough boxes of chocolates to earn a point-and-shoot camera, my first ever camera. I’ve been involved with photography ever since, including photojournalism courses in college that lead me to my first job as a staff photographer for a newspaper. That started a career in photojournalism that lasted thirty years until the pandemic struck and closed the newspaper I worked at last. Currently, I teach photojournalism at a community college, and have started this freelance business on Thumbtack to share my robust experience with clients.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I first started selling my work in high school by taking advantage of enthusiastic students at a state basketball tournament by selling photomasks of the head coach for $1 each. From there, I’ve worked with event photo companies, portrait companies, commercial photographers, and as you have already read, newspapers. I’ve been published in a few magazines, like Newsweek, but my work has predominantly been published in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Pasadena Star-News, Los Angeles Times, Glendale News Press, Burbank Leader, and La Cañada Valley Sun.
