"Beachside massage was actually recommended by a family member, who receives monthly massages, and has for a year now. This family member is very particular in who he likes and who he will recommend. My teenage son is in boxing and constantly stretching and informed me his muscles always feel tense. So, with the recommendation I contacted Beachside massage and I loved the ease in receiving an appointment within a week and within a time that worked for me. The prices are great and can afford you at the least a monthly massage. Very professional and listens well to your needs. The music is soothing and relaxing. My son left so happy and stated, and I quote, "I feel rejuvenated." I will definitely take my son back in a month or less for at least 2 hours worth of deep tissue massaging. Muscles tense up so quickly with the stresses of life. Makes me happy to see my son smiling and feeling, "rejuvenated.""

"I got this massage for my wife who is 38 weeks pregnant. Her OB recommended a pregnancy massage to relieve her back pain and sciatica. Jillian was very communicative from the request to her arrival. She even arrived at our home 15 minutes early, for set up and to talk to my wife on what her needs were. After her 90 Minute session, my wife was a different person: able to walk without pain in her back, legs, and overall felt refreshed. It’s been 48 hours since her massage, and she is still feeling great! She mentioned how she only wished she received more during her pregnancy! She wouldn’t hesitate to call upon Jillian again. She really like her technique and was very personable before and after, yet allowed her to relax during the session. We would certainly welcome Jillian back again. Just all around wonderful person, personable, professional, and superior value for the level of service. Thanks Jillian!"

"Jason is gifted. He understands light, shadow, line and movement. He sees art even in mundane settings. He is professional and honest. He directs well and makes you feel comfortable. He's able to frame finished images in his mind before he even clicks the camera. I don't know how he does that. Jason is incredibly talented, has a positive personality and a good man."

"It was my first time trying “Reiki Body work”. I usually get massage but this was a unique experience. Pros: I kinda got the best of both worlds. Reiki and massage. My therapist was also a doctor!!!!! Very knowledgeable, and talented. Not pushy with products or selling things. Cons: I booked 1 hour session but took 90 min. No extra charge though, just got me behind in my schedule."

"Organic Escape is the best massage I've ever had. Felt SO relaxed afterwards. Luis is very kind and attentive. Beyond massage, Organic Escape offers neuromuscular therapy to heal injuries and conditions like carpal tunnel and TMJ. Luis does an excellent job educating you about how the body works and teaches you how to counteract the negative habits we form in our daily lives, such as "text neck.""

"Leo has been my personal trainer for nearly 16 years. During that time, his instruction has been professional, caring, and geared to my personal needs and capabilities. I feel that my overall health, strength, stability, and knowledge that I have about my own physical abilities are due in large part to my association with Leo. I appreciate his accommodating my schedule, the flexibility of our sessions, and the comfortable, friendly vibe of our time together. He not only works on strength training, but is also able to incorporate core work, balance, compound exercises, hand/eye coordination, flexibility, endurance, and nutrition information, all with encouragement and positive reinforcement."

"Lindsey is an expert at massage therapy. She uses the best quality therapeutic grade essential oils for massage. She is one of the few massage therapists in Los Angeles that is Certified in Aromatouch Technique. My immune system was feeling really low and I scheduled an appointment with Lindsey for an Aromatouch Technique. She worked her magic on my back and feet and used her amazing essential oils. I felt so much better by the next day and by the second day I was fully recovered! I owe it to Lindsey's amazing massage. I will be getting regular massages from Lindsey. Not only is she reliable, flexible, punctual and professional, but she is caring and kind."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is pregnancy massage?

Pregnancy massage is a therapeutic massage tailored specifically to the needs of a pregnant woman’s body. Before having a prenatal massage, always check in with your prenatal care provider and ask if massage therapy will be safe for you and your pregnancy. A pregnancy massage is much more than just an indulgence. The specialized strokes and techniques used to loosen tight muscles, reduce swelling, alleviate pressure, and ease tension provide positive health benefits for both you and your baby. Experts recommend finding a massage therapist who has received additional training on prenatal massage techniques. This is typically a certification above and beyond their standard massage therapy certification and training requirements. During the massage you will likely lie on your side or in a semi-reclined position; these supported poses keep you and the baby comfortable and free from strain or undue pressure. During the massage, the therapist will listen to what body challenges you are experiencing and work to release tension. The massage should be a relaxing and very soothing experience.

Is hot stone massage safe in pregnancy?

If you’re ready for relaxation and relief from pregnancy pains, prenatal massage may be a great healing option. Once your prenatal care provider has approved you for pregnancy massage, look for a licensed massage therapist who also has training and certification in prenatal massage techniques.

The safety of hot stone massage during pregnancy depends on several factors including the stage of your pregnancy and where on the body the hot stones are applied. The massage therapist should avoid raising your core temperature or using hot stones on the abdomen. When in doubt, talk to your prenatal care provider.

Is Swedish massage safe during pregnancy?

As long as your prenatal care physician has cleared you for prenatal massage, it should be safe to indulge yourself in a Swedish massage during pregnancy. In fact, scheduling regular pregnancy massages can have wonderful health benefits for you and the baby. Swedish and other massages can feel great and also have a variety of health benefits, according to studies published by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. Some of the benefits of pregnancy massage include reduction in leg and back pain, lower levels of anxiety and depression, and a better overall mood.

To find the right massage therapist for you, read the therapist’s online reviews and call to ask them about their experience with prenatal massage. Massage therapists who have been specially trained in prenatal massage techniques often advertise this area of expertise on their websites. Don’t hesitate to ask questions beforehand, and to communicate during the massage about what does and does not feel good.

How much are pregnancy massages?

Prenatal massages can be a safe and therapeutic way to alleviate the aches and pains of pregnancy. A prenatal massage can promote a sense of relaxation and well-being for expectant mothers. The national average cost for a pregnancy massage ranges between $70 and $90. The cost of a pregnancy massage will vary depending on where you live, the length of the massage, and the massage therapist. Typically, the longer a massage, the higher the cost. Some massage therapists charge the same rate per minute, regardless of massage length, while others charge less per minute for longer appointments. Here are two examples of average prenatal massage costs:

  • Therapist A: Offers a 30-minute massage for $45, 45 minutes for $60, 60 minutes for $75, 75 minutes for $90 and 90 minutes for $105.
  • Therapist B: offers a 30-minute massage for $45, a 60-minute massage for $85, a 90-minute massage for $115 and a 120-minute massage for $145.

Can you have massages while pregnant?

Not only can you have a massage while pregnant, multiple scientific studies published by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services demonstrate that pregnancy massages provide physical and mental benefits to pregnant women and women in labor. Always ask your OB-GYN about receiving massages before starting any massage therapy to make sure it is safe for your own pregnancy. Pregnancy massage can alleviate pain, improve mental health and feel great. According to the DHHS, the benefits can include:

  • Decreased depression.
  • Decreased anxiety.
  • Decreased leg and back pain.
  • Lower cortisol levels, which in turn lowers prematurity rates.
  • Lessened labor pain (for women who received massage during labor).
  • Labor time that is three hours shorter, on average, for women who receive massage during labor.
