- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I had just graduated college with a computer science degree and my brother's friend needed a programmer. His (4 person) company had a contract from NASA to design and build a telemetry (data) processor for a satellite. They needed someone to write the software that talked to the telemetry processor. So I wrote it.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Ask what their hobbies are and/or what they do when they get time off. If the answer doesn't include spending time on the computer, you may want to think twice about hiring this person. Depending on the size of the job you may want to consider only paying for performance.
