Mario and the group are so smart, so professional, so strong, so nice, so hard working, so great! I give 5 stars only because there are only 5 stars for me to choose. With 3 people moving, the price is very very fair, no any hiding fees. He is the only one I would recommend for moving. Talked with a person who wanted to move from northern CA to southern CA with another moving company, the price is almost double as what Mario's group. It's the NO.1 in my moving history. Thank you Mario and your group!

I called Wesley on Saturday morning after another mover flaked out. Wesley made it happen! The next day at 11am, our moving crew was on the spot! Wesley and Shift It, are life savers!. A few nicks and dings, but we made our move, and we are happy. That Shift It crew is so much fun, my room mate bought lunch, and we are planning to invite them for the housewarming party!

Moving is so stressful, and moving in 100+ degree heat makes it more so. Tony's drivers were so amazing, they took care of everything and kept our spirits up, by staying positive and keeping us laughing. I would recommend them for anyone looking for amazing movers in So Cal.

I couldn't be happier! Frank is extremely professional, he knows what he's doing and his rates are fantastic. Plus he's a extremely friendly guy--an attribute that can take a lot of stress away when moving into a new space and trying to assemble furniture etc. He was communicative throughout the day, showed up early and built a fairly complex IKEA bed in less than two hours. All at a great rate!! I could not recommend Frank enough. Thanks again sir!!

Nery and his team had a huge project with us! Moving from a home we were at for 20 years - we had so much junk - debris, a true mess in the garage! Arrived 9 AM sharp! And by 11:30 AM - 20 years of junk - boxes - debris - file cabinets ...U name it GONE! And, the best part! They cleaned the garage and it sparkles now! WOW! Will recommend and will tell my Real Estate office - Keller Williams about them! Highly recommend :) Jeri

Excellent customer service! We had a misunderstanding about a small stand-up piano that the movers wanted to charge me extra for, even though I had already discussed it with a customer service agent. I called Mike and he took care of everything so quick, I was extremely grateful. I have used movers before, and most were just OK, one was awwwwful, but THIS move was very nearly painless, for the first time EVER in my life. I gave the movers a very strict timeframe to get things done, since you pay by the hour, and they really tried to honor what I was asking. I mean, I was also watching them like a hawk the whole time, but they were really trying and working hard. I really appreciate their effort and the great customer service. A+ Only down side was that one piece of furniture did get damanged while in their truck because it fell over while they were stacking things - I watched it happen while they were loading everything up, but honestly this has happened to at least one piece of furniture every time I've moved, it's just part of moving. This is why I buy cheap IKEA furniture. For the price, this was a great company to use. I would recommend to friends.

Barry and his team of guys were amazing! My fiancé and I moved into a new house and we weren’t 100% sure about how we wanted the furniture arranged. These guys were totally happy to shift things around for us here and there until we were totally happy. Really amazing considering all the heavy lifting and hard work. I would most definitely use Flash moving again and will reconmend then to anyone I know who’s in the process of moving. Thanks again guys!

Hired Frank and his guys for a move. Liked the fact that he stopped by for an estimate first, so when it came time to quote me a price there were no surprises. They were there when they said they were going to be and everyone on the crew were hard workers. If your moving and you don't at least give Frank a shot to earn your trust, you might be left out in the cold.

I used Michaelson Moving to move a new mattress & foundation into my master bedroom from the garage. The foundation is a motorized unit that is extremely heavy and then needed some assembly. They were very nice and respectful of my home. They had to decipher the assembly a little, and were very patient. Once the job was finished, Michael made sure that the box trash was cleaned up and that all of the spare parts were organized & left in an orderly manner. He even helped me set up the remote control to an app on my phone through Bluetooth. It was clear that Michael and his son take pride in their business and strive to do their best for their customers. Now, I just can't wait to try out my new bed! :)

Brett was fantastic in completing our junk removal job. It turned out to be a more difficult job than expected, and it was a particularly hot day. Yet Brett completed the job for the original quoted price and stuck with it until finished. We strongly recommend him to anyone seeking a trustworthy, hardworking, and reliable resource for waste removal or hauling.

Mike and Shaw responded immediately to my thumbtack inquiry and were able to accommodate any last-minute scheduling. They were extremely professional and reasonably priced. Moving is always stressful, but if you have to do it and you live in the greater LA area, I highly recommend calling Make and Shaw.

This was a "rush" job, though I am sure they all are, when you are moving out. This is a start up company. I knew when they arrived, they had already been working, and working hard. There was no fancy van or truck driving up with them. Did I get my monies worth? Absolutely! They spent a few hours on my cleaning and seemed fully invested. Were a few minor things missed- yes, but nothing of tangible note. Would I ask them back? Yes! They are doing everything right. P.S. my neighbors have nicknamed your van the "sticker van". Thank you, to you both! :)

I had a lot of things to be stressed out about this weekend, but moving was not one of them! The guys at New Life did an excellent job picking up my life and hauling it across the bay. They were careful with my fragile stuff. I had already packed things before they came, but they did their due diligence to double-tape some containers they didn't think were secured enough. I appreciated that! The movers were really friendly and weren't shy about striking up conversation- about painting (I have a lot) and about how to not get scammed out of a security deposit, about checking in with me to make sure the furniture and everything is where they should be. They came to my car to help me with my bags and smaller boxes, not just relegating themselves to the moving tuck. I can tell these guys worked really hard. The whole affair took a little over 3 hours, and they came well within their arrival window of 8-10 am (Arrived at 830am) so I had plenty of my day left to organize. Would definitely work with them again! Thank you again!!

Honestly I would recommend these guys over and over again. I called them with a 24 hour notice of moving a 1bdr and they were the only moving company to be able to accommodate my needs. I had Edward and Sergei as my movers and these guys were professional, friendly and hard working and made this whole stressful situation into a more relaxing experience. They handled my belongings with great care and took the time to make sure I understood all that was being done.

My Clutter team was just outstanding. DeAndre and Jay were so careful, thoughtful and organized in packing up my son’s apartment. These men are pro’s! I highly recommend “Clutter” for anyone who wants a smooth packing experience! Do not hesitate to purchase the packing supplies. I would have bought 20 moving boxes and some tape for all that was provided by purchasing supply package from Clutter. Strong, clean boxes, fresh packing blankets, packing tape. “Clutter” delivered on everything they promised! I’m so grateful (and relieved) I choose “Clutter

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
