Best massage in the OC. After getting back into a routine of intense workouts, Cedric was able to soothe many of my aching muscles. His technique is smooth but gentle and strong. The spa location is also a great gem to find and includes facials, a gym and many more items. I will definitely return!

Johnny is the best! I typically go to a spa for a massage twice a month. This time I decided to get a massage on short notice and searched for someone who can make a home visit. Johnny was available to come the same day and his service was incredible. He’s the only masseus I have had that hasn’t left bruises on me. He asked throughout the massage if the pressure was good. He brought all of his equipment including music. Johnny is extremely professional and I will be using him on a regular basis.

Chad's style of massage was perfect for what I needed. I have been having back and neck problems for a while now and he intuitively knew where he needed to focus on without me even telling him where it hurt the most. He covered all the major and minor muscle groups and did so at the perfect level of pressure for me. I need a 10 out of 10 pressure-wise and he fulfilled that and more. He's is the first masseur I have ever had who was able to do that, so I was pleasantly surprised. His space is clean and well put together. His music was nice and relaxing. The hot towels he had were amazing. I felt like I was at a high-end spa. I will definitely be back for more.

She and her associate came on time and stayed late. They created a relaxing and soothing atmosphere in our parent center, it felt and smelt like we were at a real spa. They gave 30 teachers really good relaxing massages. They were the perfect culmination to our Teacher's Appreciation Week activities.

Naomi is amazing at what she does. She is so well-educated on skin care and products that will be most beneficial for your skin. My skin looks better than it has in years. I have been getting facials and now peels with Naomi for about 4 months and I'm not tempted to go back to a spa. Amazing skin care in the comfort of your home. I highly recommend you give her a call and experience it for yourself.

I first went to Marshall last summer after buying a Groupon. I have always been tense and had anxiety and I have a moderate scoliosis, so I've had frequent massages ranging from Burke Williams to little strip mall reflexology joints. This is completely different than any of those. Past Tense is not a massage like a day at the spa. It's not about luxury. The massage can be very painful and I'm usually sore for a couple of days afterward. However, I feel release and openness I never thought possible. I've seen the twist and imbalance in my spine improve, I've learned where I store my negative energy, tension, and anxiety, and I've just felt a greater sense of calm and wellness.

Wow!!! I didnt want to leave a comment because I wanted to keep Alex all to myself. But I have to give credit where credit is due. He gave me the most amazing massage ever. His hands are so soft. It seemed as if I was getting a massage from a woman, but it was much stronger and a lot more pressure. It was wonderful. My whole body was massage and it felt amazing. The only thing is, this comes with a warning... you will be hooked!

Drea's home spa is simply remarkable. She knows how to listen to her client. Her massages have helped me through my training and completion of a half marathon despite having previous back problems. And of course they have been a welcomed treat after a hard week. Her massages are relaxing, soothing, and healing.

Chris was great. It was very easy to set the appointment and he arrived exactly when he said he would. We were doing two massages and Chris asked to arrive early to set up the room. He does a great job turning the massage space into a "spa". I loved the heated massage table and warm towels and eye covers. He played great music and really just did a great job of turning a regular in-home massage into a elegant, blissful experience. We have had a lot of in-home massages and no one has ever given us quite the spa experience like Chris. And, the massages, they were great. He was very attentive to the amount of pressure and technique. It was obvious he knew what he was doing as he commented on areas where I was sore or really tight without my saying anything. I highly recommend Chris for in-home, spa experience massage.

Stephanie has outstanding technique and was able to really work on those tight spots. Now the stress that I had been holding has been released, and I feel relaxed. After speaking with her, it is clear she brings a wealth of experience to the massage table. She doesn't disappoint! I had medium-firm pressure applied and it was perfect, head to toe. She also brings soothing music, a comfortable and sturdy table, lotions and salves with aromatherapy essential oils to calm your soul. To be honest, I was delightfully surprised by how spa-like and professional the time was. And the best part is that I am now relaxing in the comfort of my own home, drinking a lovely cup of tea. Looking forward to my next massage with Stephanie.

    About

Thai massage is often described as "lazy yoga." It uses quite similar techniques as Swedish massage, but Thai massage also stimulates the acupressure points in relation to the concept of energy lines in order to provide relief, to stretch and loosen tightened muscles, to release tension and relieve joints. Thai massage leaves you feeling relaxed and energised. In addition, Thai massage uses the technique of blocking and releasing the blood flow by applying sustained pressure for around 30 seconds to the areas where legs and arms meet the torso. This is a real circulation booster. When the pressure is released, you suddenly feel a rush of heat as blood floods back along your limbs. Swedish massage uses essential oils or lotions to suit the client's skin type. The client is undressed and may cover themselves with towels; thus the massage space must be private. For a Swedish massage, the client lies on a massage table (usually padded for extra comfort). In contrast, there is no need for oil to be used in Thai massage, so the client can remain fully clothed and privacy is not usually required. Generally, a Thai massage is done on a floor mat.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a facial?

A facial is a restorative cosmetic treatment for the skin on your face. Facials can be performed by a licensed cosmetician, esthetician, dermatologist or other qualified provider. Spas,  medi-spas and other skin care centers offer facials. Most offer different types of facials that address the most pressing skin care needs such aging, dryness, sagging, pigmentation, etc.

The national average cost for a facial is $60-$80. More complex facials, such as microdermabrasion or chemical peel, will cost more, as will services provided by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. The products used can also affect the cost of your facial; high-end creams and serums will likely result in a higher cost. For most non-medical facials, the practitioner will perform a skin assessment, determining your skin type and learning about your lifestyle, diet and skin care concerns. Then the facialist will cleanse and exfoliate the skin, extract any blackheads and clear clogged pores, give a facial massage, apply a treatment mask and then apply moisturizers. Typically facials are relaxing and restorative, leaving your skin clear and dewy.

    What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

    • Relieving tension headaches
    • Decreasing back pain
    • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
    • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
    • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.

    Which facial is best?

The wide variety of names, methods, techniques and technologies for facials can be confusing. The best facial for you depends on your skin care needs. If you’re aging and want to address wrinkles and sun spots, you may want a chemical peel, while for acne you may want a deep pore cleansing treatment. Consulting with a licensed esthetician, cosmetologist or dermatologist will help guide your choice. Skin care professionals specialize in assessing your skin and determining which course of treatment will help you achieve your goals. Here is a basic overview of the best facials for different outcomes:

    • Reduce wrinkles: A chemical peel can help stimulate skin cell turnover, creating a fresh new layer thanks to the salicylic or glycolic acids. It’s important to work with an experienced professional when getting a chemical peel so you choose the right level for your skin type.
    • Prevent acne: Enzyme facials or LED facials help battle acne breakouts.
    • Smooth skin tone: Microdermabrasion facials are done using a small tool that polishes off your dead skin cells to reveal a fresh layer of skin underneath.
    • Relax and rejuvenate: A traditional European facial often features warm steamed towels, a facial massage, deep skin cleansing and exfoliation, extractions (as desired), face masks, and applications of serums and moisturizers to leave your skin refreshed and you feeling great.

What is a mini facial treatment?

A mini facial treatment is an abbreviated version of a classic European facial treatment. Typically provided in 30 minutes, it’s short enough to complete during a lunch break but long enough to feel luxurious. Before any treatment begins, most providers will do an assessment of your skin to determine the appropriate products to use, such as anti-acne or anti-aging. During a mini facial treatment, the licensed esthetician or cosmetologist will prepare your face by gently wrapping it in warm, moist towels. The heat of the warm towels loosens the pores of your skin, readying it for cleansing and treatment. After steaming, the skin care provider will cleanse your skin, then apply an exfoliant, often a fruit enzyme exfoliant. Next, the provider will apply the appropriate serums and moisturizers for your skin type, and often give a small massage. Mini facial treatments are more cost-effective than traditional facials, which typically last 60-90 minutes. They’re the perfect splurge when you need an affordable pampering session.
