This weekend, I had to find someone immediately to help with hauling old furniture. Jiri was very professional and punctual in his service. He arrived on time and he worked efficiently. I would definitely recommend Jiri to friends and family and for my future moving/project needs. Thank you!

Luise and Mario did a great job. It was raining outside. They packed all our furniture carefully and covered our carpets. They worked very quickly and also helped us to disassemble/assemble the furniture. The team is very polite and positive. We were not sure about furniture placement in the new apartment and guys provided great suggestions! The price at the end was what we initially agreed on. No hidden fees. I would definitely recommend this team to my friends. Thank you for the excellent experience!

The cost and time effectiveness was great. However, the tops of my bedposts were lost during the move making my furniture look pretty ridiculous now. My bedroom furniture is antique and cannot be fixed/replaced. Upon calling the moving company after my move to inquire what happened to my furniture, they were unresponsive and did not follow up with me or call me back. Pretty disappointing experience.

I lost sleep over planning for this move from SF to Oakland and couldn't have done it without MEAA movers. Their rates were extremely economical and the guys worked hard. We moved my 1bdr apartment with furniture and 25 boxes DOOR TO DOOR in less than 3 hours. Amazing experience with MEAA!

Patrick was super flexible, very accommodating, and extremely fast and efficient at assembling a large piece of furniture from IKEA. He was very nice, punctual to the T, and did not need any direction from us. I would definitely use him again in a heartbeat.

If I could give Albion Moving 10 stars, I would. They are by far the best movers we've used so far, and we plan on using them in the future as well. They came on time, and got straight into moving our furniture. We have some pretty heavy pieces and all of them got moved without any fuss. Most of our upholstered furniture is also white, making it more challenging to move. We got all furniture delivered to our new home, spotless, and without any dings or other structural damage. Two thumbs up for Albion Moving!

Professional moving and handyman company. I hired Harp and his movers when my movers did not show up. They came within 2 hours after responding my call. They moved my 750 pound piano, heavy furniture and sofa bed from 4th floor narrow stairs case to 2nd floor move in place. They also do handyman service. They also mount tvs and hang pictures at my new place. I recomend their service.

Don't show up 4 hours late. Don't make me drive from SF to San Mateo just to make sure that the Public Storage Unit isn't open at 10 pm when I specifically told you it is not. You are the one that turned up late and because the storage unit closed before you finished packing at 9 pm. When you move my furniture into my 10x30 garage the next morning, where I have created an empty walkway right in the middle so I can access my stuff easily and with the garage 1/3 full, don't stuff all my furnitures/boxes to the front of the garage where it blocked the entire entrance with a furniture leaning against the garage door. And then tell me that I should I have told you earlier.

Although they showed up a bit late (as is expected with SF traffic), Jeff and Jesus were amazing. They were so quick with unpacking our cars and U-Haul, they delicately handled all fragile furniture and boxes, and they were enjoyable to work with! We don't have an elevator and required lifters to move heavy furniture up one flight of stairs, along with around 30 boxes of stuff. They were able to get all the furniture up. HUGE BONUS: we had a piece arrive from Restoration Hardware at the same time we were unpacking. Jeff and Jesus actually ended up helping the three guys RH had sent to get our piece moved in. It was really cool to see them volunteer their time and strength to help us get all our furniture in. **We're already set on using these guys for any move we ever have to do again in the Bay area.

Daniel (and his associate) were very professional and got the job done extremely well. They both worked tirelessly and nearly non-stop for 4 hours moving me and my wife from one apartment in SF to another. There was a bit more furniture (and heavier furniture) than Daniel expected so he ended up charging me a bit more than quoted, but it was completely understandable given how hard they had to work to get my very large couch and solid wood armoire up the winding small steps and tiny door of my new apartment! One thing to note is that the truck they brought just barely fit all my stuff (from a large 1 bedroom), so be sure to give Daniel a heads up about that or let him know if you have anything extremely heavy or tricky.

They were able to schedule me in for the next day. They arrived on time and got the job done impressively quickly. Mike googled a piece of IKEA furniture and was able to take apart the couch very fast. They did well carrying heavy furniture in/out a tight staircase with an akward corner. The price was very fair, and they even hauled way extra stuff/furniture. I originally moved out everything myself and rented a U-Haul. They provided a truck and were professionals and did it in about an eighth the time that it took me! Highly recommend!

I'm a real person, I work at a tech startup in SF, and just having moved to a new part of the city - didn't feel like assembling furniture AND having to unpack. I had some NON-IKEA, but similar, furniture that needed to be assembled. I had looked at some other popular task sites but they were showing me candidates that didn't exactly look "handyman-capable", and were conveniently charging ridiculous hourly rates. That's when I searched another local list and found Chao's post for "handyman services"; we easily negotiated a fair arrangement and he was able to come that SAME DAY. I was initially nervous waiting for him to arrive but when Chao showed up - I felt like I won the lottery. He brought his own tools and didn't want to waste time on small talk. THIS GUY IS SERIOUSLY A PROFESSIONAL HANDYMAN, & FURNITURE ASSEMBLY SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT. Within his first 5 minutes on site, He took that first furniture box with 1000 pieces and had methodically and systematically placed them in an orderly fashion and quickly began assembly -- paying strict accordance to instructions detail. WHEN CHAO WAS DONE, THERE WERE NO EXTRA OR MISSING PIECES!!! And, even though this furniture was "cheap", it was assembled as best as possible. Chao is an expert. I had some difficult space constraints that he had to work within but he just adapted. He had lots of tricks too, like unfolding the packaging box to protect my floor. Using a piece of cardboard to protect the furniture during hammer-assembly steps, etc... This guy is PROFESSIONAL and I highly recommend him.

Moved furniture and other items and took care to move them without damage. Did not make it on the scheduled date, which was almost a disaster but we were able to reschedule the move for early the next morning.

They did a great job moving my furniture and boxes. They were even able to disassemble my ikea furniture because it wouldn’t fit out the door. The entire move took less than two hours. Would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for movers.

Sam was awesome. He was prompt, very considerate, reliable, and courteous. I hired him to help deliver two loads of furniture from same location to two different locations. Sam was super acomodating and even knew to pull someone in last minute to help. He brought blankets, tied everything down, was careful with materials. And his price was super reasonable. Would definitely recommend.

Nicolas was easy to work with, was not only on time, and was friendly. He and his other mover did a great job picking up furniture for me in another city, then brought it to me. They also helped me move furniture around after just moving in a week ago. I would definitely use them again.

I had an excellent experience with Wally's moving and Junk removal service. Wally and team came on time (early actually) and worked very efficiently. They packed items I had not packed and disassembled (and re-assembled) large furniture. All furniture were nicely wrapped to prevent any scratches. I will not hesitate to recommend Wally's services.

I had a small moving project that needed to be coordinated like a Swiss watch movement: a very nice antique bookcase (that I just had refinished) and was transporting myself via a uhaul truck on a Friday morning to a destination some 70 miles away, had to be carefully unloaded and moved. More, I also had to get the displaced furniture moved to the garage (a small entertainment unit and small wooden book case) AND get capable people to do it with basically one day’s notice! The pressure was on! I literally posted my request on Thursday at 3:49 am (couldn’t sleep!). Elite Power Washing came to my rescue! They were the first to respond with a very reasonable quote, agreed to an 8:30 am appointment on Friday, and reassured me that they were up for the task. Mike and Juan arrived promptly, took direction on my suggestions on how to transport the piece (after I had watched how my furniture refinisher and his cohort had moved it), and placed it gently in the right spot. Mike and Juan are calm, courteous, considerate, and caring. They are professional, punctual, and take pride in what they do. I will definitely add them to my roster of professionals that I can count on, and will contact them for future jobs. I will assess my gutters and power washing needs as well... Happy and Relieved! Susan B.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.
