I couldn't have asked for anything better in terms of service & experience. I thought my door repair project would be a difficult one, but the service pro made quick work of it. He was very professional, (called ahead to make sure I was home) & chill. I pointed him to the door that needed repair. He quickly assessed the situation & gave me some options. After he explained my options in a friendly easy to understand manner, I picked one & he took it from there. I would definitely hire this service again if I needed to.

Thank you Jovani and Master ACR Glass. I needed someone to determine the extent of repair on over 100 windows on our building. Jovani replied quickly and came up with a plan to identify why water was leaking in numerous windows whenever it rained. Jovani remove several windows with frames out of the wall. He explained what was happening, provided pictures, made the repair, tested the windows with water, before billing me. The cost was as stated. Jovani then gave me a very fair estimate to repair all the windows. I said do it, they did it, it rained, and there were no leaks anywhere. Yes! This guy is the real deal. I am more than pleased with this repair from A to Z. Thanks Jovani! Kenny The Shoreline Church

Fantastic to work with Joel Mayorga of Platinum Plumbing He was the first to respond to my work request. Answered every question almost immediately! I have tenants living in my home in Los Angeles & I live in Miami. I wanted someone I could feel confident with doing the work 3000 miles away. My tenants have been going without hot water due to ineffectual work by American Home Shield repairs My former TAKAGI tankless was never vented properly nor valves put on for easy maintenance. It was a 15 year old tank Joel described via this app exactly what I needed. I sent him photos so he could see the space. He offered me several options I decided to get a NEW Noritz tankless heater. He was at my leased home within 2 hours ; new heater & all necessary parts in hand! It was a big job but in a few hours; DONE! He returned the next day to make sure all was ok & water temp was holding. He even serviced my HVAC heater at no extra cost! Will I be using JOEL again?! YOU BET I will! Using him for ALL my heating & AC & plumbing needs!

We hired Excel Construction (Eyal) to completely remodeling our kitchen and to design and build a large wet bar. The remodeling job that they did included the demolition of the existing spaces, the removal of several existing walls, rewiring of some electrical outlets and switches, re-plumbing the new spaces, remove and install new flooring, new upper and lower cabinets, install new marble countertops, installing new lighting fixtures, fresh interior paint, some drywall repairs and adding a new large island at the kitchen. Eyal and his working crew did a stunning remodeling job. Eyal create for us a complete design of the work based on what we wanted and needed, guided us through some space limitations of the house and presented to us some different ideas that met our needs. The remodeling job was delivered on time, within budget and with high quality. Eyal was at the house every day and made sure that the remodeling progress is on track. He was there for each and every step of the work, which was extremely important to us. We highly recommend them for anyone who is searching for high quality remodeling or construction work.

For the last few years, we've had 3-4 windows that did not open or close properly. Window companies and local stores only wanted to sell me new windows. Then along came Bruce. He came to our house, looked at the windows, and said "no problem." He ordered the necessary parts, and came back to the house within a few days to make the repairs. The windows now glide like brand new. Throughout this transaction, Bruce was great. He was very prompt, respectful of our home, and his price was very fair. In addition, he fixed an interior door that wasn't aligned properly. I will highly recommend Bruce to anyone that wants to discuss his service and performance.

Scheduling was a very clear and fluid process and Mike made sure we understood process for our electrical installation ( 230v installation for a spa w/ additional wire for other backyard expansion projects). On the day of the job Mike worked efficiently and provided a very clean application/ installation of the conduit and cleaned up after his work/ made stucco repairs. We look forward to him coming back, making the final connection to the spa and helping us connect our low voltage landscape lighting.

Federico responded promptly, assessed the problem, ordered parts and returned the next day to complete the repairs. Besides the problem with 2 windows staying up, he ordered and installed glass in 2 other windows that needed replacing. We were very satisfied and felt the price was quite reasonable. I would highly recommend him.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
