Easy to work with. Does quality work. Came on time and finished on time. Price was economical. Shalomi presented us with options for the project and answered all questions as they arose. HVAC work, rodent proofing and sealing of our home was what was done.

Max and Beto are both highly recommended to do all your plumbing and Hvac projects. They deserve a 10 star rating. I cannot thank them enough for all the work they did to install our tankless water heater. Not only are they very professional but did a clean job and very good price.

The best choice for all your HVAC needs. My home needed a whole new system, ducts and furnace. Sam and his team did a full install of the HVAC system in my home, even with a very small crawl space for an attic. Sam and his professional team were able to do the work outlined in the contract. Sam is very professional and will make sure you understand everything before starting the job. Always available to answer questions and confident in his solutions. I felt very taken care of through the whole process, from the initial visit through the completion and inspection. Sam takes a hand in the whole approach with his company. He is not just selling the system, he's a contractor and a good one at that. I needed a new system, and they did it in a short time. The work and craftsmanship were honed. No upselling, no intimidation, no pressure, just honest answers and professional work. A rare find. Excellent, excellent company.

Joshua patiently walked us through every aspect of the repair he was doing, explaining what was broken and why and got our unit to start working pretty quickly! He also helped us clean our filters and showed us what all we had in our attic, again very patiently and clearly. Definitely will hire him and his associate again for any HVAC related issue in future :)

Our HVAC stopped working (won't turn on) last week, so I requested a quote on Thumbtack. They responded immediately with a quote for a diagnostic service call and that the fee would be applied towards repair. We called a few days later to schedule a time and they were available on the same day. Unfortunately, we weren't available so we schedule for Friday afternoon. 2 people showed up and they were very friendly. They saw that our fuse was missing and thus the transformer broke. So they went out to get the parts and replace them. Thus far, the HVAC system seem to be working. In addition to the original work we requested, they also went beyond to check and ensure our A/C is actually working and found out our coolant is empty. They refilled our coolant and recommended that we have them check back in a few weeks to ensure there were no leaks. The main downside was the work took longer than expected due to traffic on Friday of a long weekend when they went out to get the parts, and my husband had to miss a meeting at work as a result.

They were on time per appointment schedule and Sean seems to know what he is talking about HVAC system. He explained to me about his diagnosis and gave me some options. Unfortunately, I decided to forgo the project as planned and opted for a different route than his recommendation.

Denny was a fantastic HVAC contractor. My husband is a general contractor and we recently relocated to SF. Denny installed anentire single family home new HVAC system (we remodeled down to the studs) and was highly professional, hard working, and delivered excellent work on time. We'd highly recommend him for anyone looking for HVAC work and we will definitely use him again on future projects.

Replaced furnace/AC/duct. Mack is very responsive for commercial aspects, and pro-active to pull up the permit. Eduardo, the project manager is very straight forward, pleasant and competent. Marvin, the specialist of AC is nice and professional. The whole crew of 7, did a great job, worked well and fast, paid attention to details and cleaned after the work. Highly recommended. With furnace and condenser moved to attic, HVAC operation is so quiet now. Very happy about the whole experience.

Unfortunately I was not able to proceed with my insulation project with B Green Service (my HOA did not approve the project). However, I was still very impressed during my time planning and working with Shlomi. He provided a reasonable quote to install blown-in cellulose insulation into my apartment ceiling, and was very professional and transparent with pricing during the process. He was knowledgeable and explained the various types of insulation, and gave a break down of completion timing. Additionally he was very responsive to my emails, texts, and phone calls, and provided all necessary info that I'd requested from him on time. Although I did not have a chance to hire him this time around, I would certainly work with him and his company in the future if given the chance.

Superb! After looking around and getting multiple estimates we finally found the perfect company for the job. Ricardo, the owner of Bayhill Heat and Air is a very honest guys, he runs a very professional and well rounded company. What he promised is what he delivered. He ensures the work is done to exceed the customer's expectations and especially his own (which is way beyond what I was expecting). The crew came, worked nonstop to deliver the system on time and everything looked unbelievably good. They didn't cut any corners to make it perfect. Thanks Ricardo (and team) , your company is the best HVAC company in town, hands down.

Sergey did a wonderful job. He made sure to pull out the refrigerator with care so as not to damage our hard wood floors. He did a systems check and explained in simple detail what needed to be done and replsced the condenser with a more powerful one.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

    • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
    • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
    • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
    • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
      • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
    • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
      • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
    • Your home has humidity problems.
    • Your home has excessive dust.
      • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
    • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
      • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
    • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
      • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.

How much does it cost for a new air conditioning unit?

If you’re ready for a new air conditioning unit, it’s time to start exploring HVAC prices. The price will vary depending on the type of air conditioner you buy and its cooling capacity. Window units, which require minimal installation, are one of the most affordable options on the market. If you’re purchasing from a big-box store, you can expect to pay approximately $120-$1,000 for a window unit. Window units are appealing for their quick setup and relatively low cost, but they can use more energy over time than central air and only cool the room in which they’re installed. Portable air conditioners don’t have the cooling power of a window unit, but they do have the perk of being transportable from room to room. Expect to pay between $225 and $800 for a portable air conditioner, on average. For a whole-house air conditioning system with coils, condenser and line (not including installation or ductwork), the cost from a big-box store can range from approximately $2,000 to $4,000 or more. If you don’t have (and don’t want to put in) ducts, a ductless mini-split air conditioner is a good option, although pricey up front. Pricing can range from $650 to $4,250 per unit on average; you’ll need one unit for each room in which you want temperature control.
