FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
We specialize in providing landscape design drawings. These drawings document the intensions for the space, and are an essential tool in the tasks of estimating and construction. This small initial investment allows you to confidently put your landscaping budget towards a design that you know you will use and love. You can see many of the design drawings that I have done at our website. There are also photos of installed work. I charge $110/hr for professional landscape design services. Therefore, if a small to medium yard requires roughly 15-25 hours to produce a drawing, the drawing will cost $1,650-2,750. This end product is fully customized to your yard, your taste preferences, and your budget. Reach out if you have any questions at all. Best of luck with your landscape project!
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
PHASE 1 // Schematic Design: We'll start with a Site Consultation ($75), have a look at the property and hear the ideas you have in mind. From there, we'll send you a Design Estimate and Proposal, for your signature. With a 50% Deposit, we can start work and complete a Site Analysis, Base Plan, and ultimately, the Schematic Design. This rough, sketchy plan drawing is developed through several rounds of communication, and documents all the design intentions for the space. Circulation is worked out, spaces are designated for specific use, trees are located, and paving materials are generally specified (e.g. concrete, gravel, steel edging, etc). Note that this type of drawing is not ideal for construction. It is ideal for an initial conversation with landscape contractors and ballpark estimating. It could also be sufficient for do-it-yourself homeowners that plan to take on the installation themselves. PHASE 2 // Contractor-Ready Drawings: In this phase, we take the Schematic Design drawing down to the next level of detail, for the purposes of construction and estimating. Exact paving materials are selected (e.g. Stepstone Concrete Pavers, 3/8" Black Basalt Gravel, etc.), specific plants are chosen based on adaptability to sun/shade/soil conditions (e.g. Quercus agrifolia, Muhlenbergia rigens, etc.) and all proposed features are located on site with distances from known locations (corner of the house, etc.). Depending on the scale of the project, these drawings can include a Materials Plan, Layout Plan, Planting Plan, Lighting Plan, and Detail Drawings to convey the design details of all proposed features. These drawings can then be distributed to local landscape contractors for bidding. Note that the means and methods of construction (e.g. footings, retaining walls, deck framing, etc.) would be determined by the licensed landscape contractor. PHASE 3 // Construction Administration: After a landscape contractor is selected and construction work is scheduled, materials need to be ordered, custom features need to be fabricated, lead times need to be coordinated, unavailable items need to be substituted, etc. We'll see the project through all the hiccups and last minute decisions, to ensure the details come together beautifully, on-time and on-budget.
