Introduction: I have invested time and energy into a broad range of training and experience making me a competent, educated and versatile handler. Among the courses I have taken are: DogTEC Dog Walking Academy: This course dives deep into canine behavior, communication and body-language, pack management and handler do's and don'ts. It confers a professional dog walker certificate as well as a pet first aid certification., Canine Behavior Academy level I with noted behaviorist Trish King, focuses on the mind of the dog, why they do what they do and how to work with that in both normal and pathological cases, BADRAP (Bay Area Dog -Lovers Responsible about Pit Bulls) training classes focusing on humane, effective methods for working with this grossly misrepresented breed, volunteer walker for Berkeley Animal Care Services, and Marin Humane Society. Both of these organization trained volunteers in safe and humane handling protocols. My experience in this role has deepened my practical knowledge of dog behavior and rapport building.
When clients have dogs with issues I am able to effectively and safely address them not only ensuring that the dogs will have a rewarding experience, but in most cases return a dog who is happier and more well behaved then when they started with me. Please see the testimonials page of my website for some examples. For dogs that do not have issues, my training and experience ensure your dog will have a rewarding and safe experience.
Conscientious and stringent risk management. Let's face it, dog walking can be risky business. Off-leash walks have a potential hazard at every turn: Ticks, poison oak, fox tails, snake bites, injury from over exertion, injury from other dogs (yes, dogs bite) both from within the group and from other dogs at large. Being aware of these risks is the first step to handling them. I choose off leash areas that either minimize these issues or just do not have them. When I build a pack I am diligent is knowing my dogs' temperaments, and work accordingly.
No dog has been lost or injured under my care.
As an owner operator, I provide a personal touch.
Everything! More specifically, I love getting to know the dogs. Each dog has their own unique personality and disposition. Like people, each dog has their strengths and weaknesses. It is a joy to watch dogs grow and change over time in either the group walks or the private walks. Many dogs have never been in a pack before. Once they are in a pack, they become more confident and relaxed. It is fun to see the different ways dogs relate to each other and "help" each other. Dogs walked privately typically have issues, special needs, or training protocols that need to be followed. In these cases I find it quite satisfying to watch a dog develop a behavioral skill or grow out of a troublesome habit. All in all dogs are happiest when they are out and about in the company of others. To be able to offer this service is a joy in itself. My clients extend great trust to me. It is my pleasure to provide a service that merits this trust and allows my clients to go about their work-days worry-free, knowing that their canine companion is being well cared for.
