Bought three months worth of bass lessons for my husband on his birthday, and he loves his new instructor! Paul is great and patient. My husband had his first lesson, and he already knows he will learn a lot from Paul. Thank you, Paul! He's one happy man...that makes me his one happy wife!
I've had four lessons so far with Steve, and I am so pleased with how it is going! Steve is very skilled, patient, kind, punctual and professional. He responds to all my questions, and is very encouraging. He comes to my office in Pasadena to give me my lesson. I find that the biggest challenge in learning something new, is keeping my own internal critic under control as I struggle with note reading, and learn how to play the guitar. The fact that Steve is so patient and never critical helps to offset my internal critic. I have felt self doubting in the first two lessons, but by lesson 3, I am confident that if I keep practicing and working with Steve, eventually I will get it. Steve also shared info re his Taylor Mini guitar which is much smaller than the typical guitar, easier for me to play because the frets are smaller for smaller hands. I just bought my own Taylor Mini, a beautiful instrument which also inspires me to keep at it! Steve is also introducing some popular songs starting in lesson 3, which also makes it more enjoyable. This is one of the best decisions I have made for myself, and I am very happy that I was lucky to find Steve. He's great!
I have been taking guitar lessons with Paul for about two months now and I feel like I have learned so much already! I am very impressed with his knowledge on music theory and his easy demeanor makes me feel comfortable as I scrape through the chords. He also transposes songs that you request, so you can start learning through those songs instead of just chord progressions. While, also, teaching you how to read the music. I am really proud of my progress and it all has to do with his dedication to me, can't wait to see where I go from here with his guidance! I wholeheartedly recommend him if you are looking to start/get back into guitar.
We decided to chose Brian for my teenage daughter's beginning guitar lessons due to his willingness to teach her the type of songs that she wanted. Right away he connected with her and her music. He taught her the theory behind playing guitar as well as teaching her the tricks and skills of how to play the guitar. His practices were enjoyable and not just rote. She learned very quickly and therefore stayed excited about learning. Brian was always very complementary and encouraging. Brian also helped us buy useful equipment like a tuner, etc. She always felt safe and comfortable. We would highly recommend Brian as a guitar teacher.
Started with James on drums in high school. James has great chops! The way he teaches is so easy to understand. Now Im back and learning bass, and i thought his drum skills were up to par. Is there something James cant play?!
Very to the point and knowledgeable about the instrument. He obviously has studied the guitar for a long time and knowing that makes the lessons comfortable and effective.
I've been taking guitar lessons with Kimberly since the beginning of 2011. At the time I'd had several years of lessons using a traditional method on acoustic guitar and was looking for a teacher who could help me focus on electric blues rock and move me beyond my intermediate skill level. Kimberly has a real focus on and talent for teaching. My lessons are tailored to meet my interests. A large part of the lesson is devoted to learning her method for blues soloing--at least 5 approaches to improvisation and comping. After several years, I've come to see how these approaches interweave, complement each other and have become an intuitive part of my musical vocabulary. Also, because I expressed an interest, part of the lesson involves sight reading, learning blues and jazz theory, developing rhythmic playing sense, and learning a few favorite solos. Kimberly has an amazing ability to tab out and teach any song you give her. Which leads to the best part--after 6 months I was invited to play with one of her ensemble classes. While I was absolutely petrified with fear at the beginning, this has turned into one of the highlights of my week every week. It is just downright fun! It's a safe and forgiving environment where you can make mistakes and learn, or try things out that might flop, or turn into something cool. Every teacher and guitar magazine article all point to the need to play with other musicians to develop your skills and this is where Kimberly Allison really delivers. I feel that I could now sit in with other musicians and contribute. I give my highest recommendation for taking lessons with Kimberly.
Michael, from my first lesson was so attentive to what I wanted to learn. Kind of in passing, I told him that I loved to sing but was afraid to so he really coaxed me to sing along to all the guitar songs I was learning (I really do not think that any other guitar teacher would have bothered...like "not my job". But, not Michael, he took that on as his job because he recognized that it was important to me). Likewise, when I would show an interest in a particular type of music (i.e. I like acoustic and more mellow, verging on country even), he found songs like that for me and he taught me my songs I had picked even though I doubt that they would have been his picks. In summary, he wanted me to relate to and enjoy the music; the lessons are all about what I want to get out of them...with professional guidance along the way as well. The other thing I want to definitely mention is that, Michael is top-knotch, professional and KNOWS music. He encouraged me to not only learn songs to play but to understand the theory of the music in those songs. I feel very proficient in music theory after taking classes with Michael. I not only play the stuff but I "get it." I understand the technical theory involved. I really think that this is something not every guitar teacher brings to the table or encourages. Many just do not know it! With Michael, we can move from guitar to piano so that he can illustrate something about chords in a key or the difference between major, minor, dominant and diminished chords. Bottom line, I have fun during my lesson but I learn so much more than memorizing chord shapes on the guitar. And, when I play and sing a song...well, it really feels great! Honestly, he is the BEST! He just cares so much about you learning all you can regarding music and he knows how to teach it so that you get to understand what can at first seem so unfamiliar. Michael has the holistic approach. He makes music familiar, logical, relatable and, most of all, Enjoyable. As his student, thumbs-up!
Guitar lessons. Music theory. Song transcriptions. A knowledgable and easy going guy who obviously loves what he does. Very patient, he will teach at your pace. He customizes your lessons to suit you as an individual. I leave excited to go home and practice what I have learned. You can't go wrong.
I am taking private lesson with Mike Smith. He is a very talented and patience guitar instructor.I am very happy with the quality of guitar lessons I have received from him so far. I highly recommend him to anybody who would like to take guitar lessons.
I wanted a teacher that could work with an older adult who not had piano lessons since childhood. After many years, I wanted to challenge myself by getting back into piano and I wanted to bring music back into my life. I was a bit nervous about making the commitment and about the time investment that would be required. I also didnt know a good teacher so I asked around. Howards name came up. He was recommended as a patient and knowledgeable teacher that would do wonders with students. Howards approach is not the conventional one that I experienced as a child. He presents many types of approaches and uses lots of tools and techniques to build your skills and understanding of the structure of music. Now, Im stretching myself to learn, remember and apply these skills and it feels really good! I actually enjoy practicing my piano. Now thats a testimony to Howards influence! If you are looking for a teacher that can accommodate your needs, encourage and inspire you, meet Howard and try him out. Im confident that you will be very pleased with him as a professional and as a teacher.
Wonderful teachers and wonderful owner, my daughter has been taking piano lessons here for 2 years and has learned so much.
Our 2 children have been taking piano lessons with Dory for more than a year and it has been an outstanding experience since then. Dory is not only a music teacher (not only for piano btw), he is a musician and a composer. My children have made incredible progresses in piano but they've also learnt to love music, understood the principles of styles, composition, orchestra etc... Dory customizes the approach for each child, always making sure his students progress at their pace and continue enjoying what they do. The studio is very peaceful, well decorated and inspiring. Even for me it's a peaceful and very pleasant moment when I stay there for an hour.
Daniel has been giving my 10 year old son guitar lessons online for several months now and I couldn't be happier with our experience! The online lessons are extremely convenient for our busy lifestyle and Daniel's teaching technique has captured the attention of my busy body son. He's learned so much these past few months and he loves it! Thank you Daniel!
Base is reliable, punctual, and jumps right in when he arrives! He is focused on the student and pushes them (even if shy) with kindness and humor to grow and learn. My daughter is 12 and really enjoying her vocal lessons with him. We think he's great!!
Steve is a wonderful teacher. When I started lessons I had been playing for a while but I needed guidance on where to go from just basic chords and strumming patterns. Steve tailored my lessons to the genres I wanted to study while giving me exercises that would better my study no matter what direction I chose to go. We even started coupling the guitar lessons with banjo lessons! Steve is well versed in so many genres and instruments and on top of that, he is a friendly, patient and fun person who communicates well and is easy to get along with.
I’ve been playing and recording for 35 years and I’ve worked at a high level with some very talented people. I’m not going to name drop because it doesn’t matter, and if I were you it would stop me from reading the rest of this, but if you care about your music and want to put it in the hands of someone who has mad skills as a engineer/producer, and one of the best set of ears in town, then at least do yourself a favor and go meet and talk about your project with Andrew. He’s top shelf, cares about the music, is an incredible musician and multi-instrumentalist to help with vocals, guitar, or keys, and lays down some tasty bass & drum tracks. Best thing is he’s a great guy and an amazing partner to have in the creative process.
Davey is a great teacher! He really got to know our daughter and tailors her lessons to best suit her. He teaches her how to read music while also giving her a chance to have fun with her guitar. Her lesson is the perfect balance of reading music and practicing from her book along with fun jam sessions with Davey.
My daughter Shavanie has been with at SoundCheck for about two months. First off I must say Dan & Electra are very friendly and down to earth people. My daughter does Vocal & Piano lessons with Electra, she is one of the best music coach my daughter has worked with so far...... I am amazed by her progress. She also does Guitar lessons with Josh, who is also amazing...she is finally enjoying her guitar :) Since my daughter has been with SoundCheck she has shown more excitement towards music vocally and instrumentally. I can't thank them enough! :-) I truly recommend SoundCheck, you will not regret it.
I had already been messing around on the guitar for a while, but decided to finally take the plunge and start taking bass lessons here in LA. Simply put, there is nothing that Roman can't do or teach on the bass guitar. Roman formulated a lesson plan centered around my own experience and goals as a musician, which increased my understanding of music as much as my ability to play. In taking music lessons from Roman, you not only get an incredibly knowledgable and experienced instructor, but you also get a funny, laid-back guy who is willing to jam along and offer insight into any musical piece you put in front of him. Roman is truly the total package, and I can't imagine taking music lessons from anyone else.
I was a voice student at Hollywood Academy of Music for a few years. The instruction I got was worth so much more than what I paid because my teacher went to one of the best contemporary music schools (Musicians Institute) and was a frequent performer. Not only that, but she was fun to be around and naturally a very good teacher. I also took from a few other instructors and the standard was always just as high, even though the instructors had different backgrounds, they were all well-educated and good with people.
