Concrete tile roof with a couple tiles completely gone and a dozen cracked. Responded within an hour to my call for help. Made an appointment to estimate job and showed up on time. Walked the roof thoroughly listing all damages in about 30-40 minutes, and gave me a very reasonable price quote I feel. Didn't try to up sell me. Got all the needed material together and knocked the job out in less than four hours. I've worked in construction and building and facilities maintenance for over forty years, and I can tell you these guys are expert, honest, open and straight forward. I highly recommend Alvarado Roofing Service for any roofing work you may need. Great price, great service, expert high quality results.

Hector and Roofer Hero were excellent. The quoted me the best price for my shingle replacement, started right away, got all the permits, dealt with the notoriously difficult Laguna Breach building inspectors, and finished when they said they would. Best of all - the City inspector said that it was one of the best jobs he'd ever seen. Not only was the work very high quality, but Hector even painted all the metal flashings to match the shingles. Highly recommended.

We hired Excel Construction (Eyal) to completely remodeling our kitchen and to design and build a large wet bar. The remodeling job that they did included the demolition of the existing spaces, the removal of several existing walls, rewiring of some electrical outlets and switches, re-plumbing the new spaces, remove and install new flooring, new upper and lower cabinets, install new marble countertops, installing new lighting fixtures, fresh interior paint, some drywall repairs and adding a new large island at the kitchen. Eyal and his working crew did a stunning remodeling job. Eyal create for us a complete design of the work based on what we wanted and needed, guided us through some space limitations of the house and presented to us some different ideas that met our needs. The remodeling job was delivered on time, within budget and with high quality. Eyal was at the house every day and made sure that the remodeling progress is on track. He was there for each and every step of the work, which was extremely important to us. We highly recommend them for anyone who is searching for high quality remodeling or construction work.

I received a quote from alpha roofing within 24 hours of my request. They were upfront in assessing the situation. Several tiles were cracked, among them due to improper installation of solar panels which happened over a decade ago. The day after the initial assessment, Alpha Roofing did the job. They replaced the cracked tiles and patched the broken exhaust pipes. They took before and after pictures of the roof; they give a one year warranty. They're easy to deal with and are very professional.

Samson Roofing saved the day for my entire home improvement project!! I was all set to have my home “modernized” with several energy efficiency upgrades starting with and including the installation of a “cool” new roof, when the day before the roofing project was to begin, the planned roofing company backed out of the project!! I was in a real bind (as I had taken a week’s vacation) to oversee the several projects that were to be completed. On Sunday night, Samson Roofing was contacted and first thing Monday morning, Lior (from Samson Roofing) was at my door. His foreman came out on Tuesday to make sure they could order the needed materials; and they started the roof replacement on Wednesday. They worked long and hard for next four days (which just happened to be the four hottest days this year here in the west end of the San Fernando Valley). They put on the finishing touches the following Monday. Their Team (Rafael and Martin and helpers) were great and Lior was in constant contact and kept on top of requesting the inspections from the city. Their hard worked enabled the rest of my project(s) to complete on time. I am grateful for them coming to the rescue for me. I recommend them to anyone with any roofing needs. Best Regards, Dave West Hills, CA

Ross is an excellent guy. We wanted to remove an old ridge cap and install a new roof ridge cap. He contacted and gave me a reasonable quote, came on time to start the work, and finished everything fast. Was happy with his work and gave him another job to remove an old solar water heater system sitting on the roof. I would definitely call him for few more things that need to get done around the house. Thanks Ross.

Complete re-roof around 2000 sq ft. Removed 3 layers of old roofing. Installed all new plywood, underlayment and Oakridge cool roof shingles. Handled permits and city inspections and completed job in 4 straight days and came back for final inspection following week. Cleaned up every day. Good price. Final roof looks great. Even painted all vents to match shingles. I hope to not have issues, but if I do I am hopeful and confident that Carlos will respond in timely manner to any maintenance requests. Great job, thank you, and will hire again if need be on another project.

I need some window hinges welded. David does aluminum welding. They are very hard to find. He and his assistant were on time, very nice and went out of his way to accomadate. In fact he took hinges with him to make sure it was done right. I rescheduled him to come back on the 26th as I have vacationers in there right now and I don't want to disturb them

I hired Parsa Construction to paint my house and change my flooring from carpet to hardwood. I was very impressed with how professional and nicely the job was done. They made sure it was exactly what I wanted. The team was very professional and courteous. The hardwood flooring looks amazing. They painted the walls and ceilings as well as the base boards very neatly. I now have a modernized and beautiful home all thanks to Parsa Construction. The consultation was fantastic. The consultant, Enrique stopped by and told me exactly how they were going to do the job and what was needed in order to complete it. Their pricing was extremely reasonable and I couldn’t be more satisfied with their services. Thank you.

It is without hesitation that we HIGHLY recommend ABG. Paul is a true professional. My wife and I interviewed five roofing and solar contractors and he was absolutely the most qualified. He answered all of our questions and clearly explained each step of the process for both the roof and solar system and was very informative regarding the 30% tax break. He was more than fair and greatly exceeded our expectations on every level. We were especially impressed with how important it was to him and his staff to make sure we were completed pleased and satisfied with our roof. They showed up on time and at the end of each day thoroughly cleaned up the work areas. We now have a beautiful new roof and solar system that we are very happy with. We cannot say enough positive things about our experience with Paul and his staff.

I was ready for some remodeling in my home. My kitchen needed an update and so did a few of the bathrooms. Searching google I found GIM and saw that they did energy efficient remodeling and upgrades. I contacted GIM and set an appointment for a consultant to come by to show me some options. The consultant showed us many samples of flooring, tile, roofing, painting, and multiple other products they offered. They even had their own architect to take care of the drawings for me and also had a 3d design for the kitchen. All the work was done properly and my home was left clean everyday. Appreciate all the hard work.

We had American Home come out to take care of our roof that was causing more issues than we were aware of. After they did a full inspection from going on top of the roof & also looking in our attic. They showed us issues that were affecting other parts of our home. We then become aware of the Owens Corning roofing system that we chose to go with to fix our roof. We were happy with the crew that installed our new roof & the time is took. Communication was also provided the entire way throughout the project. If you are looking for an honest contractor then we definitely recommend American Home for your next project!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
