I would highly recommend Sos. We hired Sos after speaking with several different handymen. He refinished our hardwood floors, moved a bedroom door, removed some tile and completed a few other smaller jobs. He was professional and went above and beyond what we asked him to do. I was very pleased with the quality of his work.

Excel Construction just redid our master bedroom, bathroom and kitchen! The new remodeling is so beautiful and we love it! They demolished completely the old master bathroom including the bedroom closet, relocated the toilet, created a larger and more functional closet and then rebuilt it with new heated floors, custom shelves, double vanity with storage tower and medicine cabinet, custom large mirror enclosure, marble countertop, new good size shower with several types of tile, exhaust fan and beautiful lights. At the kitchen part, they removed most of the old things and redid all of them brand new with new locations of some cabinets, lights, appliances and larger island. The quality of everything is very good while they kept making great suggestions during the remodeling work and they really were able to deliver more than what they promised they will do. We highly recommend Excel Construction!

We had 17+ years of built up dirt on the resilient floors under our church pews. Four contractors responded to our request and participated in a job walk. All offered the same methodology to clean the floors, but B&V offered a more competitive price. The fished product could best be descriptor as night and day. We are thoroughly pleas with the results and the staff that performed the work! Outstanding!

Scope - replace hallway floors (due to slight flooding/leak); gut reno one of the bathrooms; customize hallway closet(s). Pros: - Contractor was prompt to respond and quick to commence the job - Joe and his team are very professional - Quality of work is good - It is apparent that State Wide has a Subject Matter Expert for every aspect of the reno (different folks for plumbing, carpentry, tiles, flooring). Most likely 3rd parties but pros nonetheless. - flexible payment structure (also accepts CCs) Cons: - Execution was very slow; perhaps Joe's team was focused on bigger projects (it was mentioned on a few occasions) and it was apparent that our reno was not prioritized. - there were items that should have been spec'd out and ordered as to avoid delays (e.g. floor should have been matched on day1, subway tiles etc..). Numerous days were wasted as the team was waiting on the materials - my biggest frustration with the reno was the lack of empathy and accountability. Excuses/justifications were presented instead of just owning up to the significant delay (work was supposed to be executed in 10-14 days max; it took 30 days). It would have been completely fine if the delay was communicated properly instead of us hounding the team. Overall, we are happy with the renovation.

He did a really great job. My husband and I work all week, and he was really great about doing the tile on Fridays over a couple weeks. He understood that it can be hard to get away from a 9-5 job. And he was really great at explaining our options and be honest and involved with us in the process, which I appreciated a lot.

Very happy with the owner (5/5) and the work. He communicated very well and even though issues occurred he owned up to all of them. He takes time with his projects so be very patient. Got three floors completed with wood-look tiles. Originally had carpet and ceramic tile all throughout. Demo and installation came out to a good price. My main reason for the four stars as opposed to the five is due to the fact that the walls were not covered with plastic so we had to get our walls retouched. (A friend later informed us that covering should have been a must. ) Other than that I definitely see myself using him again and referring him to others.

I worked with Joseph on my home remodel. He was very accommodating. I had many special request that he made sure where completed with the most utmost attention to detail. They gutted my kitchen, my bathroom and and remodeled my kitchen and renovated my kitchen. He put in a beautiful tile surround on the shower with a custom glass surround. He made awesome recommendations on where to choose all the finishes. His cabinet maker is a true artist and they made it all custom. Many ammenities he thought of to make this a perfect custom kitchen I will enjoy forever. The Caesarstone counter tops and tile backsplash are beautifully installed. The led under cabinet lights were a great recommendation. The tradesmen who worked on the house were very friendly and accommodating. They left a clean jobsite EVERY day. Overall this was the most pleasant remodel I have ever had done and this is the 5th house I had remodeled.

Roberto and team did an excellent job on our backyard California room floor. The laid wood looking tile in a 45 degree angle and it looks fantastic. They were able to accommodate an expedited timeline and Roberto and crew worked till slightly past midnight on Easter Sunday to get the job done; now that's commitment to their word. These guys are top notch and I recommend them wholeheartedly.

I was ready for some remodeling in my home. My kitchen needed an update and so did a few of the bathrooms. Searching google I found GIM and saw that they did energy efficient remodeling and upgrades. I contacted GIM and set an appointment for a consultant to come by to show me some options. The consultant showed us many samples of flooring, tile, roofing, painting, and multiple other products they offered. They even had their own architect to take care of the drawings for me and also had a 3d design for the kitchen. All the work was done properly and my home was left clean everyday. Appreciate all the hard work.

Dan did an outstanding job installing a very difficult arabesque tile. Not only did he have to fix a previous contractors electrical and drywall mess, but he had to remove a wall mounted range hood and reinstall it. Dan carefully laid out all the tiles on the counter before he installed them to make sure that the pattern was perfect. Because the walls were not straight and the kitchen cabinets were not level, this posed an additional challenge. I am completely thrilled with Dans work, professionalism , and fair pricing. I highly recommend him, and will definitely hire him again for this property and others that I own. ( photos coming)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.
