I love my City Maid team! From the very first time I used them, they were able to get my 3 BR/3 BA townhouse looking amazing! They work very fast and still get the job done really well. Now, I'm in a 4+ bedroom house and they were able to continue servicing my family. They are amazing and I would definitely recommend using City Maid for all of your household needs!

Monica and her team did an amazing job of cleaning our home. We had her do a "deep clean" initial service. They were very careful with our household items, but extremely thorough and literally cleaned every "nook and cranny" of our home. The team spent the entire day going through each room cleaning floors, baseboards, furniture, closets, fixtures, etc. Our home is approximately 2700 sq. feet and it really felt like a brand new house when they were done! We will be using her service for monthly maintenance cleaning as well.

Ed was such a nice guy! Very personable and did a great job! He mounted a TV for us in our office and made sure all the wires were hidden. He also hung a large picture, a drapery rod and fixed our wiring on our large TV in our bedroom. I would definitely recommend him for all your household handyman needs :)

Friendly and professional : ) I could tell Renato had a ton of construction experience, so I was happy when he responded to my small furniture assembly project. After carefully laying out all of the pieces, he noticed some damage to one of the panels caused in shipping. We had to postpone the project, but Renato was very accommodating and did not expect any sort of compensation for his time. I look forward to working with Renato and very glad we connected!

Honest, hardworking and reliable young crew, professionally moved my household to Northern Nevada. So CalEuro went so far above and beyond helping this grandma move, I felt guilty and wished I could of tipped them more. They sure didn't get rich on me.

Stop your search for a Handyman here. You’ve found him. I hired Aaron to assist in mounting a bathroom cabinet to my wall. Why might seems like a simple task is deceiving. My walls are a mix of cement, cinderblock and brick. Two previous handymen were not able to get the job done (one even breaking MY drill bits trying to get into brick. All they succeeded in doing was staining my Ethan Allen damask tufted chair with PERMANENT red dust). Of course I made Aaron aware of the wall composition in advance of the job. He assured me immediately not to worry. His drill goes through concrete “like butter”. I was impressed with Aaron before he even stepped foot in my home. Scheduling the job was easy. Aaron was flexible and quick to respond to my inquiries. He also answered questions I may have posed into the evening. Once at 10pm. I did not know until he was working in my home he had a baby at home. Impressive on TWO counts if you ask me. When Aaron arrived there was a notable difference from previous handymen I had hired. I’m new to town had had needed some assistance in multiple areas. Too bad I found Aaron so late. He arrived with what I can only describe as a traveling workbench. This wasn’t just a toolbox and a drill. It was multiple boxes with every kind of tool, anchor, screw, nail, rope, etc., you name it, that he could possibly need. When I commented on how prepared he was his response was simply; “well it’s my job.” As soon as he began working it was clear that I scored a HIGHLY SKILLED professional with EXTENSIVE knowledge in his field. He sought nothing less than perfection when it came to mounting, not just the medicine cabinet, but all of my mirrors and heavy frames. The precision he used when measuring. Double and triple-checking his work so that it was certain to be aesthetically pleasing. And his suggestions and trouble-shooting on other items that were not on the docket for that day were right on point. Aaron worked quickly and efficiently without compromising excellence. And his rates are extremely fair for the quality of craftsmanship received. I even commented that he was worth more. To which he said, “if I could do it for free, I would. You’ve had a lot of false starts. But I have a baby.” I appreciated that comment because I approach my work the same way. I love it and would also do it for free if I didn’t have the bills to pay. At the end of the day, when someone loves their job, and they have the skill, they will excel. They will be the best option over all other options. I tried to pay him more than he requested, he refused the money. Finally, as a single woman I was extremely comfortable having Aaron in my home. He had a great, calming energy. I’m certain I will have him back and I can tell you if I needed to leave I would never be concerned about leaving him in my home alone, even leaving him alone in my home with my precious pup. There are a lot of apps out there. A lot of service providers. A lot of people who now make side gigs their main gigs and they’re simply unqualified. Not Aaron. He is absolutely A+ talent and a true, true professional. I am very fortunate to have chosen Aaron to assist me with my mounting projects, as I now have a go-to professional in my new city who can take care of my household needs. And not just take care of those needs, but deliver superior results. Thank you Aaron, people have been unable to stop complimenting the mounted artwork, mirrors and cabinet. And my mind is truly at ease knowing that in a new city where I know few people, if I need help I can count on you. I truly appreciate your hard work! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Absolute gentlemen! Love these guys. Their work is impeccable. I will be using their service again and again, and I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone who needs handy work done. Let me also say, I’m generally wary of inviting strangers into my living space, so I tend to have household jobs that go undone for months. But these two gentlemen are kind, courteous, and respectful. I felt at ease with them immediately! I’m so happy to have found such a trustworthy company. Thank you!

I hired Ken to take care of a couple of small electrical and plumbing problems issues I was having. He showed up exactly on time and completed the three jobs (repair light switch, leaking water heater and sink) quickly and very professionally. He was very easy to work with and very thorough in making sure everything was handled to my satisfaction. He even gave me a small refund for a part he'd purchased for my job but didn't end up using. I will call him again for any household problems that might come up.

Salvador did what he said he would do, when he said he would do it. 100% reliable and a price that felt more than fair. He also cleaned everything up everyday before he left, even though he knew he would just make another mess the next day. Quality of work was great! (And he was really nice to our pesky little dogs :)

Steve and his crew are the guys you should hire for your next job. Period. I couldn't have asked for a more flexible, professional crew, with an attention to detail and quality that I frankly didn't expect to find through a service like Thumbtack! These guys just blew me away with their work, and with the customer service as well. Courteous, respectful of the household & belongings, careful in every aspect from prep & setup, through application, and final clean-up and load-out. I'm cannot recommend them highly enough, and simply can't imagine you stand any chance of finding a better painting crew on this service, or any other.

I’ve known Kevin for many years. He has always been a conscientious, hard working, and honest individual. He remodeled my home not long ago, inside and out, and saved me not only a considerable amount of money, but the quality of the remodel is amazing. I’m still getting compliments on it. The best part was how we worked together designing the remodel so I ended up getting exactly what I wanted as well as everything being very comfortable and convenient. I had one of those popcorn type ceilings and he removed all of that. Now I have beautifully smooth and painted ceilings in every room. When I brought the house there was a hole in the living room ceiling. Kevin found and repaired a water leak from the upstairs bath that had caused it. Everything needed replacing in each bathroom. He tore it all out - walls, plumbing, floors, fixtures, bath tub, shower, cupboards, drawers, everything. He helped me with ideas on where I could find new fixtures, etc. for the bathrooms and went with me to give me his input and help me transport the items back home. The electrical wiring was old so he rewired the whole place as well as hiding TV cables that the installers had just left hanging in plain view. He installed new lighting throughout so I have plenty now when I need it, and ceiling fans too. I mentioned I didn’t have enough storage space and before I knew it Kevin had located extra room below the staircase and in the space above the staircase upstairs. He made a door and installed it in the wall below the stairs, and he took out part of a wall above the stairs and inside a closet and added shelves. I now have two new storage areas. He also laid my wonderful new tile floors in the kitchen, hall way, and bathrooms. He built the entire patio from scratch. I needed cupboards on the patio to hold gardening equipment so he designed and built those and attached them to the wall of the house. They are up off the ground and very convenient. Kevin installed a new patio roof, and he installed a sprinkler system as well – I really love that! We designed the patio layout together. Kevin had great ideas on how to build the large planter section. The flowers and plants are thriving, and I’m really enjoying the dwarf blood orange tree he encouraged me to buy. Some neighbors and friends have asked for Kevin’s contact information and they are very pleased with his help with their household problems. He enjoys nothing better than to help people. No task is too small or too large. He is a knowledgeable and multi-talented handyman. He is very kind coming back periodically to maintain my property. I don’t know what I would do without his help.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

How much do you pay for house cleaning?

Hiring a professional house cleaning service is a helpful way to have a healthy home even when your work and personal schedule is packed. House cleaning prices vary based on how many square feet your home is, how dirty your house gets, and how often the cleaning service comes. Some companies charge a set amount — such as 5 cents — per square foot, with a minimum amount, such as $100. The national average cost for house cleaning ranges between $110 and $150. Prices can be lower in areas with a lower cost of living, higher in big cities or affluent regions. You may save money by increasing the frequency of your house cleaning visits. Often a company will charge you less per cleaning when you schedule more cleanings per month. The cost advantage rewards your loyalty, and also reflects the fact that more frequent cleanings make it easier to maintain a high level of cleanliness in your home. A housecleaning service may charge more for the first visit or for one-time services than for recurring cleanings.

How do you find a good handyman?

Finding a good handyman can change your life. Within days, the endless list of insurmountable tasks that were either out of your skill range or impossible to fit into your busy schedule can be completed. If you know you want help but aren’t sure how to hire the right pro, ask these questions to find the right fit:

    • What is your work experience? If you are putting in a tile backsplash, you want someone experienced with the task, not someone who generally does painting and junk removal.
    • How much do you charge? Handymen often charge hourly rates that vary based on the complexity of the task they’re hired to do, as well as flat rates for standard jobs. Be clear about what they’ll charge before you hire them.
      • On that note, discuss payment details. It’s wise not to pay all the money up front, especially for larger projects. You may be able to pay a deposit for materials and pay the remainder upon project completion.
    • How long will the job take you to complete? If the handyman is as busy as you are and a fence repair is going to take months, you should probably find another qualified handyman for the job.

Read client reviews and follow up with references to make sure you’re choosing the right handyman for your projects. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

    What does a handyman do?

A handyman is a skilled laborer who provides basic home repairs. Anyone can call themselves a handyman, although most who do so are skilled with repairs and home projects. Reading reviews is a good way to determine their fitness for your job. The tasks a handyman can perform include assembling furniture, painting interiors and exteriors, repairing fences, repairing broken doors or replacing trim, hanging lights, hooking up appliances, and much more. Handymen may have flat fees for certain services, or charge an hourly rate. Handyman rates are often lower than those of a contractor, as they don’t have the same specialization. Some states have no limit on the work a handyman can perform, while others do. For example, California’s Building and Professions Code section 7048 (small operations) permits handymen to provide work similar to that of a contractor (floor installation, painting, etc.) provided the total cost of labor and materials does not exceed $500. A handyman is a great resource for minor home repairs at a lower cost than a licensed contractor, but for more complex projects, it pays to hire a specialized contractor.
