Working with Carol Koch was amazing. My friend and I are starting a jewellery line and we needed an illustrator to sketch pieces from images we had of them. We didn't even meet Carol and worked only via phone and email, and yet everything was done exactly as we imaged them beforehand. The sketches were done in a matter of days and when we had a revision to be made (only a few!) she understood exactly what we wanted then and made them promptly. Carol made illustrations for 9 rings, inspired by ethnic, tribal heavy jewellery. We were both impressed by how authentic she made them look just as they would be by just an image. We look forward to working more with her once we move on to brainstorming our bracelets!Jan 26, 2015
My fiancé and I just got our engagement ring that Carol designed for us. We absolutely love it! It was such a fun and special experience. We learned so much about the jewelry industry and Carol was an excellent teacher. She helped us every step of the way from brainstorming on Pinterest to going downtown to the jewelry district to pick out a stone. It was fantastic. Now we have a completely unique and original piece that will be in our family forever. She even let us keep the original sketch of the ring, which we plan to frame and hang in our home.Nov 15, 2014

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I generally charge by the hour - $100/hour for my time, whatever it takes to get the project done.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?First we define the project. It may be a one of a kind ring, sketches for an entire collection of coordinating jewelry to be reproduced and marketed, or even jewelry design lessons. Then I estimate the number of hours it may take to do the project and the costs involved. We ned to agree this is a reasonable expense. Lastly, I sketch, have the designs approved by the client as well as the model maker, if we are doing reproducible items, and when required, we put the project in work with jewelry artisans to complete.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?Sometimes I travel to Italy to attend Vicenza Oro, the big gold jewelry trade show. My education was in fashion design and I have a degree from Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA.
