Kevin showed up on time as promised and went right to work. My washing machine discharge line was clogged with a metal mesh screen used to prevent lint from being flushed into the sewer. After spending an hour trying to fish it out, it was determined that the screen was to far down the line to retrieve. Kevin snaked the line and removed the screen and unclogged the line. Kevin is a skilled plumber and delivered as promised for the price quoted. I would definitely recommend him for all your plumbing needs.

He bid $125 to clear the drain of a light well. Came within the half hour arranged arrival window. Swept clean the roof area. Found after the water initially drained that water backed up again. Determined that there was another clog underground near the sewer connection. Since there was no cleanout at the ground level and drain pipes were corroded (I had patched holes with plumbers putty and duct tape) He replaced the pipes for another $250 plus parts. This involved cutting away some cross beams to pull the pips out. Only minor complaint I noticed the next day that was that he didn't close tight the faucet to get water for testing the drain so there was a slow drip.

Mike completed the job from purchasing and picking up two toilets 🚽 to cleaning up everything, breaking up cardboard, leaving no traces. He even offered to come back to install new toilet seats because I don't like the ones that came with the toilets I purchased. Very honest worker and I will certainly hire him again.

I contracted Ray about my clogged sewer problem. My toiletes kept backing up. He responded quickly, assessed my plumbing needs and generated a fair market value estimate. Turns out I had tree roots blocking my sewer line. After I did a pricing research for this type of work, I decided to use his service and I am happy to say that my toilets are working again. Thanks Ray!

Marytnn was excellent. He phoned and we were able to deduce the issue and come to a very reasonable quote. He came the same day (and earlier than expected) and got the job done. If you have little people in your house that like to drop things down the drain, definitely give Martynn Plumbing and Drain Cleaning a call!

Gleo was very responsive and professional. We hired him to help with our clogged bathroom shower and sink and he came out to snake and un clog both. He was super friendly, got everything done in a timely manner, and was very affordable. Now our water is going down the drain smoothly and we are so happy with Gleo’s work! Thank you Handyman Gleo!!

I had a water leak issue that was coming through my downstairs ceiling. Issue was due to a backed up shower drain line. Found Vyron on Thumbtack and he contacted that evening to set a time to come by an assess the job. I also needed base Board for the downstairs as well as reinstalling tile in 4 spots from a previous radiant floor heating leak. Vyron was right on time. His quote was very reasonable so I hired him. The time Vyron arranged to begin my repairs was again, right on time. He immediately began his work with a crew. He unclogged the shower drain, removed the damaged drywall and reinstalled new drywall. Installed all the base board and reinstalled the tile. He quoted a time frame of 6-8 hours. He completed everything in 7 hours. He and his crew were very clean and organized. Vyron is professional and friendly. I highly recommend Vyron Salinas. Thanks Brett Larson

Fairly simple job (for a plumber). Replace sink drainage from disposal to wall. Had been plumbed for corner sink. He was replacing leaking flexible plastic pipes. I was called promptly, he called ahead and showed up on time, worked efficiently and charged a reasonable price I was happy to pay.

Gustavo was prompt and very thorough. I had him do clean up and hauling away yard debris, planting, fix plumbing and electrical, etc. It was a 2 day job and he and his team did great. I'm hiring him back next week for other related projects and I guess re-hiring someone without reservation is the ultimate compliment.

Routine water heater swap - yeah right. What started out as thinking our water heater was broken, turned out to be a long overdue clogged sewer lateral. Worst case scenario. While I'm not that happy about the sewage overflow situation which could have been better mitigated (and we still need to beach the hell out of that room), the solutions and options offered by Ali were professional and spoke of his experience. To unclog the piping, snaking was attempted but failed, hydrojetting was attempted but failed (with a mess of sewage). Finally we got a camera down there to find a wall of something about 50 feet down from the mechanical room to a spot under the sidewalk. Digging 4 feet down, to find actually a pretty good condition clay lateral. Ali's man Valentino (a skilled gentleman), cut the clay and replaced it with a riser in order to install a cleanout for future maintenance. Once done, they hydrojetted for another hour to clear 7-8 months worth of waste. The camera was once again sent through to find that a portion of the clay lateral had shifted and created uneven surfaces including some penetration of tree roots. While most plumbers would probably recommending an immediate replacement, Ali recommended that since it wasn't fully collapsed, we should simply clear out the lateral as routine maintenance rather than spend all the money to replace the pipe. I appreciate his direct communication, no sales pitch, and brief coaching through the process. While I do have 10 yrs of construction experience, and his price was not the cheapest, he certainly delivered on time and without any sense of price gouging.

I needed to install a drain pipe for my washer, a water line from my sink to the fridge, and an air gap for the dishwasher. 3 things on my to-do list and Greg tackled all of them in a few hours! He had all the right tools and parts for each of the appliances, worked efficiently, and was incredibly polite. Highly recommend! I'll be using Greg for all of my plumbing needs.

Stephan is extremely detailed and does what needs to be done in order for the job to be right. Stephan went beyond the role of a plumber helping us bring up the massively heavy vanity with my husband and 2 other neighbors up our stairs and through our narrow hallway. In order for the vanity to be flushed against the way, he cut through our trim. He had to take our old sink and break it open to get parts. When he was done, he caulked the back. It looked beautiful. A few days later we noticed the sink's water would drain slowly. I texted Stephan and he was back at our house a day later with new pipes and a professional grade snake. Stephan is beyond capable of even the biggest projects and is all around a nice guy you trust.

I had a Kitchen drain that was clogged. David responded, we agreed on a reasonable offer and he was out the next day to complete the job. He was kind, professional and on-time (even a couple of minutes early). He put down a plastic tarp around the work area and was very clean and cleaned up after himself. I was VERY pleased with his responsiveness and work overall, I would def call him for any future repairs. He hit every mark on what one expects from a service professional and I think you'd make a good choice going with him. I have had to hire a plumber at a previous residence and it cost twice as much for a similar job. Glad I found him!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
