Jared responded quickly to my inquiry with a firm quote and showed up the next day to do the project. I wanted a mini bar turned into a kitchenette. He and two guys installed a wall mounted microwave, a cabinet above it, an electric cooktop, a larger sink, and a garbage disposal. They had to cut into Cesarstone for the sink and cooktop, which made me very nervous. They even added more backsplash where it was missing once the old cabinet was removed and added touch-up paint to finish the job. They did everything in one day and left the space cleaner than when they arrived. Very pleased.

Mr. Lopez was super professional. The job was small (an accent wall and touching up the baseboards), but he treated my job as if he was painting the entire house. He was on time for both the wall-thru and the actual day he worked. His work was clean and flawless! I would hire him again!

I used Freddy and his team to do quite a bit of wall repair and painting for a remodel. From large chunks of missing wall and ceiling to smaller holes scattered here and there. Freddy and his crew showed up on time and worked hard to get the job done fast. The walls and ceiling look great and Freddy's prices are excellent. Only note I have is that they could've been a little cleaner. It's messy work which is understandable, but there were some splashes of plaster where they rinsed stuff and drywall dust on the walkway that could've been easily cleaned up at the end. Highly recommend!

Jimmie was on time, personable and best of all he completed the work on schedule as he had promised. He fixed my wood trim on the exterior of my house that was damaged by termites and wood rot. He replaced and painted damaged wood. Additionally I called him back to install a ceiling fan and replace a bathroom heater/fan. I would be comfortable to have him come out for future jobs. He has proven to be honest and dependable.

We hired Excel Construction to do a complete kitchen remodeling and enlarge the existing space by expanding the walls several feet to the patio area. The new kitchen included the installation of the upper and lower cabinets, new paint, new backsplash, marble counter top, LED lighting and new dishwasher, stove and range. Eyal, the project manager and Revital (the lady that we worked with in regards to all the documents, payments and permits) from the office who did an outstanding job helping us. During the work, we clearly noticed that they were always made sure that the costs will remain the same and won’t pass the budget that was set at first and they made sure the job was done accurately. All the sub-contractors that they employed for our house (carpenters, electricians, painters etc.) were outstanding, qualified and experienced. We were very fascinated that our project Eyal was able to complete the entire kitchen few days earlier than he promised us. We were always given a personal attention by Eyal, who was very good in communication and organized and by Revital. The new kitchen looks perfect and very useful and we strongly recommend them and we will hire them again for any remodeling project we may have.

I acquired a lovely old dining room cabinet. I could not afford to have it refinished, but Tim painted and repaired it and it looks wonderful! His reasonable price included pick-up and delivery. The only glitch was a delay in finishing the job due to a piece of his equipment that had to be repaired. I am extremely pleased with the results and would highly recommend Tim Martinez to others.

Joe did a great job painting a room from red to grey. It required several coats of primer and two top coats. It also required repainting the trim, which I didn't include in the original job description. He charged a very fair increase in price to account for the increased scope of work. . I will be hiring Joe again for lots of other projects.

Arash approaches his work for you as an older brother. He cares about the design so much and owns the project as if it were his own home. He will do whatever it takes to make sure you are happy and proud of the final product. I know he spent many hours outside of our meetings to research options within our budget and time frame. What I enjoyed most about working with Arash is how he educated me on my options, and ultimately guided me to the best decision. Arash worked meticulously to make sure the 7200 square feet of office space was cohesively designed. He introduced new and hip products such as glass whiteboards, eco-friendly fountains, simple sit/stand desk options, and contemporary paint colors. He also offers a bonus service of picking out and designing custom furniture, and guided us through the process of assessing fabric quality and durability, aesthetics, color matching, pricing, and placement of furniture. He has an incredible amount of patience and has done nothing but good for our business.

First time working with Cal Engeneers, I specifically worked with Khalil, and Lazar, they did an incredible job. We had a one bedroom unit that has not been renovate din over 8 years, they came in, and had the whole place redone in about 11 days. Whole new laminate flooring put in, carpets removed, walls painted, popcorn Celing removed, and many cabinets and closets repainted. Essentially remodeled the entire 1 bedroom apartment. They came in under budget for what I expected and did a lot more than asked. Such as refinish the bathtub and clear out grout. very fast work, always on time, easy to reach and very fair prices. and an over all excellent experience. Just handed them another job in another property.

My husband and I purchased our home a little over a year ago and the work that needed to be done on it required a lot of care to detail. It's an older home and we had a lot stuff that I wanted restored on top of painting the actual house. I will admit that I'm not always the easiest client to work with as I can be very particular about how I want things done. My husband and I both have demanding jobs so we really didn't have a lot of time to be around the house. But we were so relieved to have found this company as they assured us that it would all be taken care of within our timeframe. Not only did they do a fantastic job but they were incredibly patient with me and the vision I had in mind for our home. I'm so pleased and excited that I now get to enjoy and share this space with our friends and family for the years to come as we ourselves begin to grow our own little family. Thank you so much Nick for making our dream home come to life!

If you are looking for an muralist or a faux artist - Jeff is your "go to guy"!! His portfolio of murals is incredible! I was quoted from other faux artists outrageous prices and he is reasonable for his faux work. He also did an oil painting repair for tears in an oil painting and I am very happy. He is prompt, hard working and enjoyable to be around while he is working. I highly recommend him for murals or faux artist -- he can do it all and anything!

Excellent job & overall experience! I had to get rid of a wall panel in a new home that was an eyesore and Jerry Gail put in the lowest bid to paint it. She also had the most personable, o-nonsense approach. She answered messages promptly and her follow-through was impeccable. The wall in question was highly textured but she was able to assess on the spot how best to tackle it, with great care and consideration. She even used a spare can of her own paint when my own ran short for the second coat! I'd highly recommend Jerry Gail for any painting job, no matter the size or level of difficulty.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
