- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
At ScoreBuilder Test Prep, we have two tiers of tutors available. Senior tutors are tutors with over 2,500 hours of one-on-one tutoring experience across a variety of standardized tests (ACT, SAT, AP Exams, SAT Subject Test). Senior tutors are $140/hour. Professional tutors have all been through a rigorous 50+ hour training program to master the content on the tests, the strategies to help students build higher scores, and the test-taking tricks and tip for success on test day. Professional Tutors have all graduated from top 25 colleges or universities and work full-time as test prep professionals. Professional tutors are $90/hour.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
In getting in touch with a new or potentially new client, I initially like to setup a phone or in-person consultation to meet the students and the parents, learn more about their specific tutoring needs, and answer any basic questions about my services. In these discussions, I can help provide parents with important information about the test prep process and highlight the benefits of my personalized tutoring approach. Common topics of discussion include selecting between the ACT and SAT, when to take standardized tests, how I design customized programs to each student, and questions about college admissions. Once we determined that I am a good fit for the student and the family, we will schedule an initial session to get started! I meet with students at their houses or any other convenient location. After each session, I will assign students homework to completed between sessions to reinforce topics learned that day. In addition, parents will also received an email updating them about the session and how their student is progressing. I am also always available to student and parents over the phone or email. In short, I make all the efforts to provide both fantastic tutoring and top-notch customer service to all of my clients to ensure my students reach their full potential!
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Matt Stroup is the Founder and President of ScoreBuilder Test Prep. Matt has worked with students in one-on-one test prep for over 2,500 hours for a wide variety of standardized test and academic subjects. Matt prides himself on delivering exceptional results and providing top-tier customer service. He is looking forward to helping students across North County San Diego achieve to their full potential! While pursuing a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Economics from Johns Hopkins and a Masters in Biotechnology at Georgetown University, Matt called on his academic roots and began tutoring professionally in Washington D.C. As a math and science nerd, a rarity in the tutoring community, Matt not only worked with students on SAT and ACT, but also guided students through academic courses, SAT Subject Tests, and AP Exams. Before long, he fell in love with sharing his passion for learning and helping his students achieve to their full potential. In 2014, Matt decided to leave Washington DC and move to sunny San Diego. Matt founded ScoreBuilder Test Prep upon seeing there was a great need for a high-quality, customized, one-on-one test prep and academic tutoring in North County San Diego. He knows that each student has unique needs and a flexible, personalized tutoring program delivers the best results. Matts love of learning and passion for teaching allows him to immediately connect with his students and make the test preparation process swift, effective, and enjoyable. In his free time, Matt can probably be found down at the beach surfing, scuba diving, or spearfishing. He also plays on a competitive ultimate frisbee team and enjoys, golfing, traveling, and painting.
