I have to say hiring Nima for some electrical repair and installation was one of the best ideas possible. He did an absolutely phenomenal job from beginning to end. I had personally interviewed seven other electricians to install floodlights motion detectors and a beam for home. Nima responded immediately, professionally, detailed in his process and procedure, and came in well below any of the other estimate. His work was flawless. I couldn't be happier and I promise if you hire him you will not be disappointed. He is a decent good man who does fantastic work for a low cost.

Excellent work by Juan on an IKEA sink installation in our commercial office studio space. He showed up on time and honored his quote even though the work ended up being more difficult than anticipated. The existing plumbing for the prior sink was in poor shape, but Juan was able to repair that complete the installation in a way that made it look beautiful. Plumbing can be especially tricky, and Juan demonstrated admirable skill and great work ethic in completing the job. Highly recommend.

Sergio the owner/ plumber is no salesman!! He helped us snake the clogged backed up bathtub -didn't work and almost gave up. He then located a joint at the kitchen pipe (which worked as a clean out!!). We don't seem to have a clean out since it's an older house built in 1960s. Tried to disconnect the kitchen pipe and snaking it did unclogged the bathtub and kitchen sink. The previous home warranty plumber snaked the drain and made the clog even worse. He advised us to install a clean out which would costs thousands or to hammer the cast iron tub to located the main line. But Sergio is great. He unclogged the drain. Didn't have us spend money and do something that would not work. A little tip for you next time to ask him snake the whole way though the main line to the city line.

I hired JR to come out to install an outdoor electrical outlet. He was the first to respond and was very straight forward. We hired him on the spot and he completed the job fast and efficiently. We're very pleased with his service. I would definitely call him again if we need more work done in the future.

Javier was great. Very professional, timely, and worked with me when I didn't want to invest a ton of money in repairs for a machine that wasn't very expensive. Gave a 180 day warranty for his repair. Will hire again!

The technician was in and out. He knew what he was doing. Diagnosed the problem. Had the part. Fixed it and I was so happy. He was the second person I called. The first guy was young and inexperienced. Told me I had to get my vent cleaned before he would come back. Then once I got the vent cleaned the next day. He never came back. Waste of $55. Love this company. They are my new appliance repair co.pany!

I have nothing but the best to say about Allan's work. He came out to replace my old bathroom faucet, and install a new one. It was a bit of a challenge to have it removed as it was literally baked in, plus, I did not know where the main water shut off valve was. He patiently worked with me in locating it, and ended up completing the installation in the best way possible. Definitely a happy customer and will be hiring him again.

Edward Torres is a true professional. The caliber of his work will speak for itself. He installed recessed lighting for me and the quality of the lighting he recommended, as well as his work is second to none. Upon prompt arrival he went over the layout of the lighting with me, measuring it precisely. He also let me inspect the hardware he was going to install to make sure i was satisfied with it ( which i definitely was because he only uses the highest of quality materials unless you otherwise specify). He laid out the location of the lights on the ceiling for me to view and approve prior to making any cuts or drilling any holes. Ed is so pleasant and easy to work with. Once he began the install he was operating like a well oiled machine. He made it look so easy even thought there were wires and fixtures coming out of the ceiling everywhere. I could tell he had done this many many times before. In the end Mr Torres installed 5 recessed light, 2 adjustable lights, 2 separate dimmer switches, and even (recommended and ) ran an extra wire in my ceiling ( as he was forward thinking) to where i might one day want to install a ceiling fan. The true professionalism, knowledge, and expertise of Mr Torres derives from his passion of the trade and 2 decades of experience in the business. He is a licensed and bonded professional as well as a U.S. Army Veteran who has served in combat defending our great country. He is a man that truly cares and stands behind his work. He has core values in his life that are evident. Integrity, excellence, and commitment are a few choice words i'd use to describe Mr. Torres and his work ethic. I would definitely recommend Edward Torres to do electrical work for my family or friends. I plan on using him again. If you are looking for an extremely knowledgable electrician at a great price your search is over. You will be in good hands hiring Ed Torres. Thank you Ed for all your hard work!

Had an issue with the wall stove - lights blew out when changing and oven shut off completely. GE said there was no one authorized in the area -- but Allen & Sons are certified GE repairmen which I luckily found on my own (GE told me to look in the phone book - last GE product I ever buy). . Ultra fast response - SAME DAY appointment, called at 1pm, they had a 4:30 and then a 3pm opened up. So almost same hour service. Ben our tech was great, incredibly knowledgable, polite and worked quickly but carefully. The whole job was $80! be a little more as one part had to be ordered, but even that was only $46 + install when it arrives. I can't recommend this company more. Having dealt other companies they are orders of magnitude better. If you live in Malibu, Palisades, etc - and into the valley (canoga park+) these are the people to call. Top notch across the board. A++

Nick found the problem with our 20-year-old Maytag washer quickly. The cost of the part needed for repair was too much to spend on a washer of this age so we decided to buy a new one instead of repairing it. But we were impressed with Nick and will call him for future repairs of our appliances.

Contacted George with a list of projects I had in mind, but needed a price to see how much I could get done and what the costs would be. George came over to give me a quote and a breakdown of costs of each project and payment schedule, which I appreciated. We went ahead with the work. One of the bigger projects we had George and his team do was to knock down our existing patio and concrete and put up a new one. Old patio was 15' x 20' we did a new 15' x 40' patio. Very happy with the quality of work and the patio itself. Other projects include removing bulkhead and putting up new drywall, installing can lights, new roof, and putting up new doors. I was most impressed by two things - 1) the open communication between us, and 2) the professionalism and politeness from George and his workers. Even little hiccups were properly communicated and worked out. I will definitely be working with them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
