Todd Reis performed magic for 18 women during a Girls' Night Out event. He was engaging and roamed from group to group performing up close magic. The guests participated in the tricks. We were baffled as to how the tricks were done in front of our faces and we could not figure out how it was done. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?My fee varies depending on what type of magic they are requesting (strolling close-up or a stand-up stage show), how far I might be traveling, how long they want my services for, how many people I need to entertain, etc. I try to work with most budgets and customize my show to fit their needs, venue layout, and schedule..
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?Once a client responds to my quote via messaging or phone call, they find out I am a real professional person. We discuss more about their event and the venue to determine what would work best and if I can fulfill their need. At that point they might make their decision to hire me or wait a few days after they review any other bids they receive. Once they click the Mark As Hired button, I request the specific address, email, and phone number and discuss any other relevant info such as how payment is made. Most clients pay by cash as the time of the event. I will take a check if I know to expect that in advance. I will also take Paypal if paid in advance. If the client requests an invoice for documentation, I will send one via Paypal. Quite often no deposit is necessary unless the client prefers to do so or if for an event several months in advance. A day or so before their event, I check with the client should there be any relevant changes I should be aware of. At the event I do my professional best to make sure all have enjoyed what I've performed. Upon leaving I usually request the client to post a review here on Thumbtack and then follow up with them a few days later.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I've been involved with magic most of my life as an amateur, but started seriously studying the performance of it around 1986. By 1988 I joined the Academy of Magical Arts (aka Magic Castle) and joined the International Brotherhood of Magician (aka IBM) along with a few other local magic organizations. Besides learning and in turn teaching fellow club members, I also served in running several clubs as President an on their boards for numerous years. I became a professional magician around 2012 while reinventing myself as a result of the economy and end of my long career as a computer systems analyst. For the past 3 years I have been teaching a weekly magic class at the Cerritos Senior Center.
