Very friendly, thorough, and professional. After a less than optimal experience on Thumbtack the last time I hired someone to watch my dog, Just Four Paws was exactly the service I was looking for. Slightly more costly than others, but worth the peace of mind to know your dog is in conscientious, professional hands.

Meg is the best! She is super responsive and responsible, my shy dog Zinny warmed up to her immediately, and they had their first walk today that went very well! Meg also communicates well about the walks, letting me know that she's at my apartment and keeping me posted after the walk about how it went. So happy to have found Peace Love and Walks through Thumbtack!

I was looking for someone to come to my home the same day and correct the chop job done on my Golden Retriever. Michele responded almost right away and was on the job within a couple of hours. She was pleasant, communicative, patient, kind and had a great sense of humor. She doesn't have a mobile grooming van, but bathed him in our tub and clipped him in the dining room. It was a very hot and humid day, and she washed and dried him in a hot bathroom with a smile the whole time. She handled that, and my dog who almost never has me out of his eyesight really well. (oh yes..he was barking and crying and not wanting to be still, like a spoiled brat, but she kept him in control, lovingly. I'd have lost patience and yelled at him myself!) She was eager to please us and offered to come back if we found anything we wanted to change later, but that hasn't happened. I'm very pleased. By the end of the visit I felt like Rigby and I had both made a new friend. There just isn't a nicer lady anywhere! She was worth every dollar and the tip and more. Also, my family and friends and neighbors have all made positive comments on how nice Rigby looks! He spent the next couple of days acting light on his feet, showing off his new look! It was obvious he liked it too! I found everything I'd hoped for with Michele's visit! This is my first experience with Thumbtack and won't be my last! I have many upcoming jobs around the house i'll be needing help with!

Jennifer O. March 12, 2017 VERIFIED STAY Trina has been checking in on my pups while we're at school and work and has been very patient with my dogs who tend to be very leery of new people. She sends me a report on how it went each day, putting my mind at ease and is making progress with my little ones, which I'm sure isn't easy. I really appreciate having her as our doggie-sitter. ============================= Laura D. February 1, 2017 VERIFIED STAY We're so glad we found Trina! With three dogs and a cat, it's been hard to find quality in-house pet care in Vallejo, but Trina was wonderful. We felt completely at ease having her stay in our home and the animals clearly think she's the best. We are certain we will be using Trina again in the future. ============================== Susan F. December 19, 2016 VERIFIED STAY Trina did a home visit for our older hound. He is a lover, but can be very picky when it comes to eating. Trina spent lots of time with him and even got him to eat! She spent the extra time to clean up after him, and wrote us a lovely note detailing how he did with her while we were gone. We feel very comfortable using Trina, and look forward to using her in the future. ============================== Teresa B. July 21, 2016 VERIFIED STAY Trina was a wonderful help when I went on vacation and had no one to watch my two shiba inus. She was prompt and very professional in responding. Very accommodating with regards to my dogs needs as well as mine. She was very sweet to my two little children when meeting them. The dogs were in good spirits upon my return and I could tell they were well cared for. I appreciate that she let me know each time she was at the house, and it was exactly what we agreed on. She also brought in my mail and ensured the house was intact, in addition the house was how I left it upon my return. I would strongly recommend her to anyone needing care for their animals and I will be calling on her again! Thank you Trina. ================================ Ben S. July 19, 2016 VERIFIED STAY Trina is WONDERFUL! We left our two dogs with Trina to be sat for two nights while we went Rafting & Camping, and then to an event in San Francisco the next day. The dogs ABSOLUTELY loved her! She has a 10 year old Boxer named Max, and Cash, my partners tiny little 5lb. Chihuahua, hung with his new buddy on Trina's living room couch. Tilly, my 12lb. Jack/Pom mix adores Trina as well, and loves going on walks with Max. PERFECT SITUATION for us -- Trina lives about 2 minutes away from us, and she also agreed to take the dogs again last minute for another night the following weekend, while we go kayaking. She's a lovely person, and is VERY thorough, and VERY responsive to her clients needs, both human and canine. I HIGHLY recommended her and her services.

I Dropped my dog Daisy off with Michele and was very surprised that she would be done in 2 & 1/2 hours. Everywhere I have ever taken Daisy has taken no less than 4 hours. She was very loving to my dog and did a great job taking care of her needs. Daisy is a clean dog again and I will be using Dexter's House again..Thank you Michele

Wes has taken care of my dogs and house a few times when I was travelling for work for a few times, from a couple days to a couple weeks. He did an awesome job, the dogs were in great hands. Wes even took them on excursions around town, which is always a treat for the pups. I should point out that I have 2 Shiba Inus, and they can be quite stubborn and loud if they don't like something. I never had to worry when Wes was taking care of them. They pups always were happy, and my neighbors were happy, too. I would recommend Wes in a heartbeat.

I hired Pet Stays and Plays to walk my dog for 30 minutes, 3 times a week since I work long days. It has been the greatest relief knowing Brixton is taken care of and in great hands. Although my dog is not the easiest dog(Little rescue dog). Jenny has been able to gain his trust and work through some of these issues. I’m thankful to her for socializing him around other animals as well. An added bonus is when out of town Jenny knows his schedule and steps right in to take care of him.

Ellen has been so great! My pets liked her immediately and didn't even bark at her. She takes my dog to the park for walks and visits with my cats. She has never missed a visit and she goes above and beyond her duties. If there is an accident, she handles it. She feeds everyone and takes care of the litter and even leaves me a log of what she has done for the day. She took out my trash and brought in my mail while I was gone and she is very trustworthy. I hope to have a long pet sitting relationship with her and our family :)

Angie is heaven sent. My two dogs greet her with so much love & joy, it makes my heart sing! She has been so helpful with dogsitting at my place and even more extraordinarily with helping me get started with my very own dog walking service in Los Angeles. I learned so much from her example. Angie is the kind of person who has driven to Mexico from California to get much needed affordable veterinary care for a cat who turned up on her doorstep. She helped a traumatized pitbull recover in her home when he crossed her path and soon after she adopted him. She also helped me with an insurance claim when I worked with a rescue dog who got into an incident. Angie is a resourceful, reliable, trustworthy person and you can add all the virtues on her name and those will ring true.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
