Juliet tutored my younger sister for her SATs. From the first exchange of emails, Juliet was very responsive and professional. She was able to help my sister drill down on her weaknesses and address them head on. She was very patient with her- just what my sister needed to understand and effectively learn new techniques. I would highly recommend Juliet for SAT prep!

Nina has really helped me out this year! She has been very flexible, responsive, insightful and perceptive. She always explains things in a way that has been clearer to me than any of my teachers. After working with her, my SAT score went up enough to get me into the UC schools I applied to!

Jenny tutored both of my boys. She was always courteous, and prepared. I first found her looking g for a SAT Tutor. She reviewed work and offered constructive assistance without doing the work for them. I used Jenny for 2 and 1/2 years. With my younger son. We recommend her to friends who have also used her tutoring. The convenience of having her is great so my teenagers are not meeting in a public coffee shop or library. I was able to be active in recommendations when needed.

I was signed up to take a Kaplan course for GMAT prep and was talking to a co-worker about it when they told me their story. They took one of the same Kaplan courses I was signed up to take and didn't get their desired GMAT score. In their second attempt, they signed up for private tutoring with John Easter, one of Elite Home Tutoring tutors, and their GMAT score improved by over 100 points. After hearing this story, I called to cancel my Kaplan class & signed up with Elite Home Tutoring, with a special request to work with John. During my studies, I decided that I wanted to take the GRE instead of the GMAT. I explained this to my tutor John and to Eric at Elite Home Tutoring and the change was so simple. John is not only skilled in GMAT prep but GRE prep as well. So the only thing that would need to change were the materials. If you're looking for the best resources for test prep I highly recommend Elite Home Tutoring. I have no complaints!

I found Matt on this site and am happy to give him a positive review. I chose him for SAT prep because he lives close to our summer home. He was able to work with my daughter face to face for the first five weeks and after that they moved over to Skype. Matt was always on time and professional. We don't know yet if my daughter increased her scores but based on his expertise, I'm going to guess that she did. Thank you Matt for your help!

Travis tutored me for about two years in my latter half of high school. He provided me all the necessary tools so score extremely high on the SAT and subject tests. He cares so much about his students and their success and goals in life. I'm currently at the college of my dreams, University of Southern California, and without Travis' constant mentoring I am unsure if I would have been given this opportunity. I cannot think of someone more highly recommended in my community to not only tutor kids but also guide them through the trials of growing up than Travis.

Mary Ellen was an excellent tutor for both my daughter and son. Her ability to connect and adjust her teaching style to their differing personalities was amazing. When she first started working with them, it was mostly strengthening their grammar and writing strategies. She was especially helpful with the literature my daughter had to read for her AP lit class. Having her help them prep for the ACT as well as college essays was the best decision I made!

I hired Gene last summer to help my son get a better grasp on math prior to going back to school. I was not disappointed at all. I had Gene come over twice a week for about 6 weeks or so. By the end my son was ready for 6th grade! The tutoring really helped my son's attitude and confidence going back to school. I asked my son recently if he would like Gene to prep him in July/Aug for 7th grade math and english. He actually said Yes! Gene must be something special if a kid is willing to give up a few of hours each week of his summer vacation for tutoring. Gene is real personable with kids and they definitely like learning from Him.

Mrs. Webb tutored my daughter in a number of areas in math and helped her prep for exams, including the CAHSEE. She was extremely patient and took the time to explain anything my daughter did not grasp, as many times as she needed. Mrs. Webb is experienced in many disciplines and was willing to work across subject areas in order to make sure my daughter really understood concepts, theories and steps. I would recommend Mrs. Webb to any parent looking to help their child, whether they need some basic assistance or more in-depth tutoring.

Simply the best SAT tutoring we have experienced. Our son enrolled in a preparation course with no significant results or guidance. We decided to try Tutor Nerds and the experience was exceptional. I loved how our tutor kept the lessons very active and was always asking questions making sure my son was really learning the topics. We still have another month of lessons till the test date.

I hired Mr. Randy Norris, June 2015, "cold" after looking for math tutors on Craigslist. There were many, many tutors listing their services. I carefully reviewed each tutor. What struck me about Randy was his extensive experience and wide range of subjects especially in higher mathematics. Also, very importantly, I did not want a young college student but a mature teaching experienced individual. My son was interested in tutoring for SAT Math 2 exam. Randy is punctual and called when stuck in traffic on first tutoring. Randy and my son immediately got down to business; you could tell Randy immediately knew what to discuss with my son. He immediately started giving my son tips to improve his speed. My son is extremely pleased with Randy's tutoring and is learning a great deal to improve his scores. My son is extremely good in math but needed guidance on areas to improve in. Randy knew exactly what to concentrate on and teach my son. I would highly recommended Randy Norris as mathematics tutor.

How do you study for the SAT?

Your SAT prep strategy can mean the difference between a great score and a mediocre score, as well as the difference between being accepted to or rejected by your school of choice. The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is a college entrance exam that measures a student’s knowledge and understanding of what they have learned up to this point in school and what they need to succeed in college. In addition to arming students with the knowledge they need to excel in the math, reading and writing components of the test, SAT prep can help improve scores by teaching students crucial strategies for taking the test itself. Professional SAT prep tutors can work with students one-on-one or in group sessions. Typically, tutors recommend that students who are comfortable and caught up with their regular schooling begin SAT prep at least three months before the test. If you’re targeting an elite school, six months before the test is a good time to begin. Students who are behind in school are advised to start early to ensure they’re caught up and feeling confident in all the relevant subjects. Suggestions for long-term SAT prep include taking challenging high school courses, completing all homework assignments, preparing for class tests and quizzes, and participating in class by asking and answering questions. There are free SAT prep training tools online; for those who’d like a one-on-one tutor to take them to the next level, the national average rate is $70 per hour.

When should you start preparing for the SAT?

It’s never too early to start preparing for college entrance exams, but professional tutors recommend a baseline of at least three months before the test. The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is the gold standard for college admissions, and SAT prep is important for doing well. Your child’s SAT scores will have a major effect on which colleges send acceptance letters. Professional tutors can work with your kids to coach them on how to take the SAT, as well as studying the actual academic content. Doing well on the SAT is as much about knowing the right test-taking strategies as about having a firm grasp of the subject matter.

To understand your student’s readiness for the SAT, they can take the pre-SAT (PSAT) starting in their sophomore year. SAT prep can be structured around the student’s PSAT scores, so tutors can address any challenges and weak subject areas. If your child has their sights set on an Ivy League or elite school, SAT prep with a tutor or study program should start at least six months before the test. Vocabulary is a key element of the student’s SAT preparation and success. The national average rate for SAT prep tutoring is $70 per hour.

What is in the SAT test?

As your child is preparing for the SAT, it’s helpful to know the specifics of the test. The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is made up of three main categories and one optional essay. Students have a total of three hours to take the test, with an additional 50 minutes for the optional essay. In total, there are 154 questions. During SAT prep, it’s helpful to take timed practice exams to understand how you’ll do during the actual test. Here is a brief overview of each of the four categories:

      • Reading: 65 minutes with 52 questions. The Reading test measures command of evidence, words in context, analysis in history and social studies, and analysis in science.
      • Writing and Language: 35 minutes with 44 questions. The Writing and Language test covers the same topics as Reading, as well as expression of ideas and standard English conventions.
      • Math: 80 minutes with 58 questions. The Math test looks at the student’s understanding of algebra, problem-solving and data analysis, and advanced math in the context of fluency, conceptual understanding, and applications.
      • Essay (optional): 50 minutes with 1 essay. The essay will demonstrate the student’s competency with writing, analysis and reading.
