I help manage 70+ properties at Now Realty Group and have had a lot of bad experiences with hiring Electricians. I'm happy to say that I had a wonderful experience working with Jose! He got out to my electrical job within 24 hours of my contacting him and he arranged the appointment directly with the tenant so I didn't have to be the middle man, saving me a lot of time. After going out to our rental property and assessing the problem and finding that the electrical outlet he went out to change out was working fine, he said there would be no charge! No one does that anymore, I was very impressed! I have found Jose to be very professional, prompt and honest. I will be using him for all of my electrical, plumbing, painting & drywall jobs from here on out. Jose went above and beyond my expectations and I would highly recommend him.

We hired Michael and his staff after receiving several bids. Our building is a 6 unit condominium that was in desperate need of paint and stucco repair. Our initial meeting was with Michael himself and a lovely woman named Michelle. They were both very professional and knowledgable. We picked some samples and they went above and beyond and gave us some suggestions for color as well. The work was done on time and Michael himself came by to make sure all the T's were crossed at the end of the project. Our home looks 1000 percent better and I could not recommend them more. Not to mention their quote was more than fair! Five stars all the way!

Wonderful! Contacted us quickly. Fast, reasonable and tremendous job. The stucco work was great and matched the 30 year old surrounding surfaces. Will be back for many more projects.

Brian painted a few rooms in my house for me this summer. Not only was I impressed with the way he helped me decide which color to choose, but with his attention to detail and quality of work. In the past ive had other painters leave streaks on the wall or do a messy job. Not Brian! He finished the job in a timely manner and was a professional from beginning to end. My expectations were truly exceeded! Thank you Smitty's Painting!!

So pleased! Eddie's Professional Painting was the first to respond to my ad. I called, we talked, and I hired on Friday. As planned, Mario showed up at 8 a.m. on Sunday and was finished in approx. 7 hours. Mario worked straight through - I don't think he even took a break. His painting was excellent -- and we're talking wood trim around 9 windows and a large patio door, as well as painting repaired stucco adjacent to the trim (different color). I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Thank you very much -- and thanks to Thumbtack as well! Elaine Burroughs

We had water damage, a bizarre whole-ceiling light fixture a la 70s, damaged linoleum flooring, 1/4-1/2” brown grout lines. & more. Jason fixed it all beautifully, demoing, drywalling, painting, tiling, cleaning, & painting more. His work is impeccable, he is very neat, & he did it all in about 5 days. He was helpful when we ran into plumbing issues, & when asked to add on random details like replacing damaged casing, painting the grout (eco-friendly), & helping with the ceiling fan, he was obliging.

Wisk was a wonderful choice. Eric and Bill were very communicative, and did great work. We had them remove our fireplace and replace with 14' slider. They did all the associated demo, ordering, installation, tile, electrical, drywall and stucco work. They are pros from A to Z. We hope to use Wisk again for future projects.

We hired Jeff to remove popcorn ceilings in our living room and paint the living room and master bedroom. I got several quotes from different painters and his was one of the most reasonable. From the beginning he was responsive and easy to communicate with. His crew was prompt, courteous, and professional. I was extremely impressed with the quality of their work- our living room and bedroom look 100 times better! Would definitely hire Jeff and his crew again.

Rudy and his team did an amazing job texturing and painting the walls and ceilings of our 2 bedroom apartment, along with painting our interior doors, trim, and baseboard. Rudy's work is very precise yet still fast! He even came back for touch ups after our job was completed. Not only were we extremely satisfied with his work but with him as well. He's very professional, punctual, and thorough. We will definitely use Rudy for all our paint needs in the future!

Steve did an amazing job on painting a room and bathroom for us. He was prompt to give us a fair bid, was able to do the work in a timely manner and is very professional. His work is top notch, he paints with clean lines and he cleans everything up nicely. I am planning to hire him again for additional interior painting jobs. Loved working with him.

Raul was very trustworthy and had great work ethic. I was able to rely on him to fix and touch up everything the original painter left undone, which was quite a lot of details but Raul was excellent at jumping in and correcting everything. He was professional and did a great job for us. We ended up asking him to work several days on other projects.

I am a recent homeowner in Escondido, Ca and I looked on thumbtack for a contractor and that's when I first found Luke Carr Construction which was an excellent choice. My old house built in the 1920s needed to be completely remodelled, there were holes and cracks in the lath and plaster which other constractors were leary of working with lath and plaster. Luke fixed all the walls, rewired all the electrical in my house, including new ceiling fans and can lights as well as new deco switches and outlets throughout that I purchased from Home Depot. He also painted the entire 4 bedroom house each room with a different colour I selected. He refinished the original hardwood floor in the house as well as the old chipped and base floor moulding, which came out superb! He opened walls and doorways to expose more of the kitchen and bedrooms, he created matching arch ways to match the ceiling. At first I was nervous because I've never done this before but in the end it looked even better than I could visualize and it created a more open atmosphere, I've received lots of compliments from family and friends about the unique arch ways. He also gave me advice on landscaping and didn't charge me to replant some of my trees that were put in too deep (took two hours), and gave me advice on the exterior which is the next phase of my home. He is an excellent painter, clean and neat, matches existing texture perfectly the other contractor said he would try but couldn't guantee it would match. He also did additional electrical work in the bathroom and advised me to add extra outlets in the living room that I didn't think I needed but really have helped me bring the house up to code. Overall Luke is a trustworthy guy and is very respectful of my choices, he gets the work done, he doesn't have a lot of the modern technology like 3D imaging and I don't believe he has a website but his dedication and old school ways worked beautifully for me and my job. He prides himself on his family life, I met his grandchildren on two different occasions and they were sweet. I'm looking forward to having him back for Phase 2! I've recommend him to two of my friends, one of which used him and she was very satisfied. Patricia

We had all our windows replaced by Pacific Homeworks. Their bid for the job was fair and the man who came out to measure the windows was extremely precise and accurate. The windows are made to order so they took a while to arrive but once they were ready the crew installed them in less than 2 hours!!! They put tarps on the floor and hung up draping to prevent any dust from traveling through the house (there was absolutely no mess anywhere). Because the windows were made to order, there was no damage to the walls or stucco. The insulation and sound proofing they provide was nothing short of amazing. I never turn on the heat in the winter anymore.

Very friendly people!! I had the pleasure to speak with Marco over the phone to see if he could give me an estimate on the outside of my house last week. He showed up to my home, very polite and professional. Before he gave me an estimate, we walked around the house, my spouse wanted opinions regarding colors on stucco and fascia, Marco gave us options and told us about the difference on the quality of the different types of paint. He gave us a very reasonable price and ended up painting our house in a professional timely manner. excellent quality and great detailed work! My spouse was very pleased with the overall work. I will definitely recommend his work and detail to my friends and family!!

Joey was amazing. We moved into a house we had only seen online. When we got here the interior of the house had an array of paint shades in the yellow spectrum ranging from mustard yellow to pastel yellow. There were several poor transitions on the walls and places where the paint wasn’t even the same color. To make matters worse we had only a short time before our house hold goods were set to arrive. I called 6 painters before I finally posted on thumbtack. Joey got back to me immediately. He came out and gave us a quote within a few hours and stated the job the next day! His price was VERY reasonable for the efficiency and quality workmanship his team offered. He catered to us going the extra mile and fixing areas where the last painters had been sloppy with the wall texture... I cannot say enough positive things about our experience with Joey.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
