"Well what can I say?! I tried my first two hour massage and Andrey was absolutely amazing. I completely agree with the review that says he has "old soul" hands. I have never had a massage this thorough and fabulous. I have a lot of problems with my neck and back and he addressed every single one of them in a methodical and careful manner. I got the deep massage that I needed without being re-injured. I can honestly say that I have found my masseuse! I won't go to anyone else. He has amazing hands...he truly has a gift that he shares with all of us. Looking forward to my next appointment:) "

"Service was top notch. Very soothing n relaxing. Her rates are pretty reasonable. She walked me through each step and explained the type of massage she was doing n its benefits. I would guess approx 10 different massage teqniques she used on me, carefully explaining in detail. Awesome service !!"

"This is my first pregnancy. I am 30 weeks and huge lol, I was having extremely bad siatica and swollen legs . So my friend referred me too Winston's healing hands massage therapy, honestly the best massage I have ever had . The environment was serene and peaceful , the massage was 90 minute prenatal massage!! Come on 90 minutes can I say more , and since I was a new client I received $20 off my massage what a deal !! He was professional and attentive and I will definitely be going back to him again . It's the best treat I've done for myself and will go back again . "

"I've been seeing Mark now for about 18 months, and what I appreciate most about his work is that he's continually striving to better his technique, and never walks in offering the same massage from the time before. He's incredible intuitive - he listens, and then knows what and where to work, and then incorporates that into your entire session. As a bigger guy with an active lifestyle, I sometimes need more shoulder and neck work; or sometimes more lower back work if I've been traveling - I always feel when I let him know what I need done that not only will that area be worked on, but it won't mean gypping out on the rest of your massage. He always seems to pack it in and really know how to time out the hour (or 90 minutes!). Lastly, he's just a cool guy. I've been getting massages for 20+ years, and Mark is pretty much the first time I feel like I don't need to be on the search for someone new. "

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
