This company is a 5 star without a doubt. I talked to Ed, two days later Sean came to my home. He got right to work. Vacuumed all my vents and ducts, cleaned my A/C unit, and put in a new air filter. Sean was very professional and friendly. I couldn't be happier with AIR DUCT PROFESSIONALS. 👍

Tommy was amazing. Very professional and used discretion when speaking with me in front of tenants. I was impressed with the honesty and patience in answering my many questions. I hired Northstsr to install an A/C in a rental and my home. The work was completed exactly as stated. and within the given time frame. I just completed a remodel and was concerned about bringing the old giant A/C through the small opening on the ceiling, hoping not to scratch a wall or dent the wood on the new staircase or scratch the walls. Tommy took care bt protecting and covering the staircase. The workers did a great job and cleaned & dusted from the dirt of the old unit. The staff cleaned each step and the banister. Tommy also installed two vents in tbe master bedroom. He was able to create much needed air in an old small bathroom which i enjoy when getting ready in the morning. I highly recommend Notrhstsr for you A/C and heating needs. I will also use them when I have plumbing issues in the future.

Highly recommend Titan for any of your HVAC needs! Recently went through them to have my old/leaking ducts replaced. Price was reasonable and quality of work was superb! Very professional and polite. Had the job done in one day which included having asbestos removed in my attic (by another company they recommended and coordinated with). They kept there work area clean by wearing shoe covers and laying down a walkway. Initially I was planning to have my whole AC system replaced, but after noticing my attic was colder than my house while the AC was running, I knew I had a problem with the ducts. Ryan came over after setting up an in home consult. He went into my attic and took pictures of my leaking ducts and explained everything in detail. After replacing the ducts, my AC had been running amazing! I will definitely be going with Titan in the near future when it’s time to replace my furnace and outdoor unit!

We hired Rick to replace an old furnace and all the ducts inside the house. He is one of the most honest contractors that I have ever met, his quote was way below anyone else which at first got me a bit skeptic but once you talk to him and you see him working you realize that he is super professional. The difference between Rick and other contractors is that he cares about you as a client, he treats your house as if it was his and he trusts his work so much that he knows that you will refer him to your friends so he doesn't need to overcharge you like others (his quote was considerably less than the others I got), he even offered helping me on a Sunday with the water heater (he wasn't hired to do anything with the water heater). He passed the inspections with flying colors, the inspector even said that he didn't even need to check Rick's work because he knows that Rick is one of the best contractors out there. The worked that he performed in my house was absolutely flawless, him and his crew will not leave your house until they achieve absolute perfection on what they are doing, he sticks to his quote and he will not overcharge you even if they find surprises, which I well appreciate after overpaying for my new house. I have recommended Rick to all my friends and even my realtor ask him for his business card after seen his work, and I would recommend him to all of you out there thinking about your next project, for sure he will be back for my next projects.

This review is a long overdue. We wanted to get the air ducts cleaned before we moved into our new home. Setup a time with "Green Apple Duct Cleaners" for an estimate. Tony showed up on time, took time to explain all the details, we found them to be very reasonable with the prices, highly professional and honest. Decided to go ahead with the work right away. Took them about 2 hrs to get it all done. Highly recommend, you won't regret!

Chris Johnson went to fix a problem with the AC unit in my condo in Irvine, CA. The tenant was complaining that the upper floor was freezing but the bottom floor was hot, which suggests that there might be a problem with duct work. Chris did a full analysis to the unit and reported back the findings and the full way to resolve the problem completely. We continued to discuss the options and came up with a good trade-off option that will mitigate the problem, and while not be the full solution, it will solve the problem for much cheaper. After we agreed Steve completed the job properly and left behind a very happy tenant (and a happy landlord). I would definitely use Chris's services again and recommend anybody with an HVAC issue to contact him, that is if you want to work with a person and a company that is fair, reasonable, articulate, respectful and professional! Woke up to a freezing house. Sometime throughout the night my Heater had stopped working. Checked out the thermostat and it read the Heat was ON. Checked the vents and felt cold air blowing. Not exactly the kind of problem I want when my wife and I are expecting our first baby in less than a month. A friend of mine recommended we give Able Air Conditioning a call. Made the call at 8:30am. In less than an hour they sent a tech named Ivan. Nice guy. Came in, took a look at the problem. Gave me a quick estimate. Gave him the okay. He fixed it, and by 9:45am my house was warm and more importantly my wife was happy again. Before he left he gave me a few tips on how to maintain my heating unit so that I can save money on my utility bills. I would recommend him and Able Air Conditioning to anyone and everyone.

What an honest guy Garrett is, did an amazing job and was able to show me how he cleaned all the air ducts and FAU including what were "inaccessible parts" according to some other cheaper companies. Was on time and left my house very tidy.

We had a great experience with Thomson AC. Everyone at the company was helpful and reaponsive. We had a few bids from different companies, but found Thomson AC to be the most reliable and honest group. My wifr and I had to work and were very comfortable leaving our house in their hands for the day. Our brand new system (including new duct work) is in excellent working condition. We highly recommend and will work with them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

How much does it cost to replace air ducts in a house?

If your air ducts have been damaged, you’ll need to replace them. The national average air duct replacement cost is $150-$280, which may not include materials. Factors such as duct material, labor, location of ducts and linear feet of ductwork will all affect your final costs. Labor costs will vary based on how accessible the ducts are and what material your ducts are made of. The least expensive duct material is a flexible, non-metallic ducting that costs approximately $1-$2 per linear foot. Flexible aluminum is generally more expensive and stronger than non-metallic ducting. Stainless steel ducting is the strongest, the least flexible (meaning installing it typically has higher labor rates), and usually the most expensive. An average price for air duct replacement could range between $35 and $55 per linear foot, including basic materials and labor. A typical single-family home has 6-10 duct runs; replacing or installing one duct run could average $150-$250 for labor.

How long does it take to get your ducts cleaned?

The amount of time air duct cleaning takes can depend on how extensive your duct system is, how old your air ducts are, and whether they have ever been cleaned. On average, expect a standard size home (between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet) to take 2-5 hours for one to two technicians to clean. Here are the proper protocol and equipment you should expect from a professional duct cleaning service, as recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency:

  • All doors and access ports opened to ensure the entire duct system is inspected and cleaned.
  • Thorough system inspection prior to cleaning to identify possible asbestos-containing materials. If asbestos is present, specially trained and equipped contractors must do the removal.
  • Use of approved vacuum equipment that exhausts particles outside of your house. If the vacuum exhausts inside your home, it must be HEPA equipment.
  • Furnishings and carpet covered and protected.
  • Soft-bristled brushes only on fiberglass duct board and sheet metal ducts internally lined with fiberglass.
  • Ductwork properly protected.
  • Adherence to guidelines and practices set down by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association.

How much does it cost to have your air ducts cleaned?

If you’re concerned about dust, allergens or mold, it may be time to have your air ducts cleaned. The national average cost for air duct cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Air duct cleaning costs will vary based on a number of factors such as your location in the country, the age and condition of your air ducts, the number of linear feet to be cleaned, and any repairs your ducts may need. HVAC cleaning companies should clearly outline what is included in their services and at what rate, so always make sure you understand and have a written agreement before work begins. Here are some examples of average air duct cleaning costs:

  • Tiered pricing for different levels of service:
    • Standard cleaning: $100, which may include truck-mounted industrial vacuums, high-pressure air wands and air snakes to clean all supply and return vents, branch lines, and main trunk lines.
    • Advanced cleaning: $200, which may include standard cleaning services, plus rotobrush or viper clean sweep in the main trunk lines.
    • Ultimate cleaning: $400, which may include advanced cleaning, plus insertion of a viper microline into all vents to force debris down the branch lines and into the main trunk lines, to be handled by the viper clean sweep. Typically, all ductwork surface is contacted, before-and-after photos are provided, and the furnace is cleaned.
  • A flat rate for unlimited vents: $289.
  • Additional fees for larger houses: $20 for each additional 500 square feet over 2,500.
