Kym had my dog sitting and lying down on command within an hour. also trained me to use halti and and long leash to get my dog to come and stay. Very pleased with her professionalism and continued support if I need to have questions answered. Tim D.

Nothing but positive things to say. Contacted Cynthia and Darren less than a week prior to my week-long vacation seeing if they could sit our cat and bunny. They said it was no problem, came to our house to meet our pets the night I called. While we were gone, they left texts on arrival and departure each night, sent pics and videos. We felt great knowing our pets were in such good hands while we were gone. Cynthia and Darren's genuine love for animals shines through in their attitude and enthusiasm for the job. Highly recommend!

Maureen was very responsive to texts/calls/emails. She made sure to address the individual needs of my family/pet. She packed in so much information into just one session and provided us with some unexpected extras. We have already seen an improvement in our puppy's behavior after one session. I love her positive approach to modifying behavior. She was also super patient with us (first time dog parents). We had some very basic questions but she spent extra time with us to make sure we were set before she left. Will definitely use her again and refer friends in need of doggy help.

I was having a very difficult time controlling my very large puppy. It was very disheartening and made my time with my pup very stressful. Shireen gave me the tools to for a successful relationship with my big guy. I am no longer intimidated by him and he is much more obedient. We would not have the bond we now have had it not been for Shireen, truly! Her boarding services are awesome as well. I loved seeing him on FB while we were away, playing and lounging by the pool! I knew he was loved while we were away...not sitting in a kennel!

My tibetan mastiff started with Dwain the first week I had him at 12 weeks old. He adores Dwain and so do I. He is consistent and kind while training. We took private lessons and used his pet sitting service. I couldn't be more pleased with him. Dwain is one of the good guys!!!!

Alex is simply amazing. She has a little dog that exceed anything I’ve ever seen so her sense of care, passion, and responsibility exceeds even that of your for your pet. I went out of the country for two weeks and I don’t think my little Maltese even wanted to come home LOL. I have never seen anyone have such a sense of devotion to their career path. She sent us constant updates, photographs, even inquiries on my dogs behavior to ensure that he was acting in his normal routine. She made sure I was aware of the fun he was having as well as how much he loved a different kind of dog food. She takes her sense of responsibility incredibly seriously. My family and I could not have had our smallest family member in better hands. I intended to support Alexandra and cannot think of any other plac my family and I could not have had our smallest family member in better hands. I intend to support Alexandra for years to come!!!!! We rescued what I refer to as a special needs dog. Calle was two years old and everything frightened her. We knew we needed professional help. The first trainer we called couldn’t make a connection with Calle. We then contacted Melissa based on reviews we read online. We were not disappointed! She really considered Calle’s needs and customized a plan to work on walking Calle on a leash, socialization, and potty training. It wasn’t long before we were able to walk Calle in the neighborhood/park. The potty training techniques Melissa shared with us worked immediately! Melissa also met us at various places (shopping centers, park) to work on socialization skills. Melissa’s style is firm, yet so kind and gentle. She also did a great job educating me as a dog owner. In addition to training, Melissa is the (ONLY) person we count on for dog sitting. Even though Calle made enormous progress in the area of training, I wasn’t so sure she would ever be comfortable away from home. I am happy to report I was wrong. She has overnight visits with Melissa about every six weeks and comes home a happy doggie – NO anxiety. I highly recommend Melissa for her outstanding training techniques, knowledge, professionalism, reliability, and last but not least, her obvious love of dogs.

Couldn't be more thrilled. Was leaving my puppy for the first time in someone else's care was of course a little nerve wracking. Alicia could not have made it easier. Wonderful with animals, super communicative and flexible. Thanks Alicia!

Connie has been great to work with. She really knows her stuff and has worked tirelessly with our been extremely stubborn dog. She spent over an hour in our first meeting going over every issue we wanted to work on and we made a plan to work on each of them. Our dog has made huge improvements in the time she's worked with Connie and I think even more importantly we have learned how to continue working with our dog to get the results we're looking for. I would highly recommend working with Connie.

We were really happy with our experience with Amanda. She met with us beforehand to go over all the details and was in contact with us daily while we were gone. It was very reassuring to know our pets were cared for while we were gone. She left a detailed form for each visit with information about the Pat's and what she did. We will definitely call Amanda next time we need pet sitting!

Angela has been taking care of our fur babies since they were 4 months old. Our girl Delilah was 7 years old, she has recently passed. Our boy dog will be 8 years old in October. Angela is the first person I call when planning a trip. We also rely on her to check in with our dogs and give potty breaks during the day. She has been there for us in times of unforeseen family emergencies. We love the pictures and texts we receive with updates on how our dogs are doing. Those pictures and texts are comforting when we just can't be home with our pets. Honestly, I have no idea what I would do without Angela's Pet Sitting.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
