Bruce was the best. He was ON TIME!!! He had a long commute with traffic, but still called and made it. He kept his promise to the $$ amount he quoted me. Even when I did not have the right sink/part, he came to the Home Depot with me to get/advise of the things I needed. Even when Home Depot, didnt have what I needed, he called a local contractors only store and they had exactly what I needed. He was very neat, clean, friendly and professional, but most of all, HONEST!! Price was great, The only down side....There is so much more I want him to do now Im not sure where to begin. I will use him again and refer him to others.

Juan was great! He fixed our faucet but our water was turned off to the house so he offered to come back later to check his work when it got turned back on. Fortunately he fixed the problem correctly and didn't need to come back! He was great!

Cesar was very professional and explained everything he was going to do. He asked before he removed pieces of hardware that were no longer viable. He changed out our kitchen faucet, cleared a drain and was able to get a hot water faucet working again after a year. I would highly recommend All In One Plumbing & Drains...they do it all.

David quoted half what others did, came early, and finished quickly to unclog the main sewage line responsible for clogging the kitchen sink after my failed attempts to plunger and manually run a snake through by hand. He gave me tips on how to keep the lines clear, slicing a lemon wedge in the garbage disposal with no water, then letting sit for at least a half hour to let the natural acids clean, avoiding using harsh chemicals, also to run enough water after finishing the dishes to help push any food particles down the pipes enough to push it out to the main under the street. I finally have a plumber to keep in speed dial. You'll want him in your speed dial too. He really enjoys what he does.

Can't rate high enough. Needed replacement piping components for outdated sink water supply system. QC'd his own work and made me aware of small pinhole in line that I likely wouldn't have known about or been an immediate issue. He literally became his own machine-shop and fabricated a necessary piece to fix system, all while in the dark with his cell phone light because the power in the neighborhood went down. But most IMPRESSIVELY he extended his workday with the add-on fabrication all while having the THE GUTS TO BRAVE THE WRATH OF HIS BIRTHDAY GIRL WIFE AT HOME WHO WAS CALLING TO LET HIM KNOW SHE IS DRESSED AND WAITING ON HIM TO TAKE HER TO THEIR DINNER RESERVATIONS.

I have nothing but the best to say about Allan's work. He came out to replace my old bathroom faucet, and install a new one. It was a bit of a challenge to have it removed as it was literally baked in, plus, I did not know where the main water shut off valve was. He patiently worked with me in locating it, and ended up completing the installation in the best way possible. Definitely a happy customer and will be hiring him again.

As a contractor I'm particular about other contractors. I've also had a number of plumbers out to the house and have never called the same one back twice. Anthony will be the first I will call back. Super nice guy, prompt, and easy to contact. The price was also equal to or better than the other plumbers I've called. He got to the house and had the drain unclogged in no time. This is after I used my own snake, then went out and rented a 50' electric snake from Home Depot, spent hours on the drain, and finally gave up and called Anthony. I would highly recommend him for your drainage, hot water heater, most of your plumbing needs.

My project was taking out a sink/faucet/disposer set and reinstalling the disposer and new sink and faucet set. The thing that some of the contractors said was that one couldn't install around granite, so I was a bit prepared for damage to my countertop, which was not at all desired. Not a scratch. A few unexpected challenges in that my existing disposer was too big for the piping and the piping required an adjustment, but he had some fittings in truck, so no delay. One of the parts I ordered did not arrive on time so he is coming back to hook that flange up. 1. He was precisely on time and emailed to say how far away he was. 2. Arrived neat and professional with his shoe coverings already on before entering my home 3. knew what he was talking about 4. adapted to surprises 5. most important, got along well with my dog, who supervised the entire project and approved.

Efrain is a licensed Master Plumber, which speaks volumes. He originally came out to snake my main sewer line - it was shot from root penetration. Efrain did a thorough check of the line, presented me with options, explained the pros and cons of each and made a recommendation. He and his Foreman Rafael arrived on time each day, worked the weekend to expedite completion and demonstrated the professionalism too often lacking today. I will hire them again and I have already encouraged family members to do the same. I am a certified Project Manager with very high expectations - Blue Streak Plumbing & Rooter exceeded them! Well done, Efrain and Rafael. Wish that I could give you 10 stars!

I can’t speak more highly of George. We had an emergency leak and George came immediately on a Sunday at 7am to assess the problem. But before he arrived he stopped by Home Depot and bought some parts that he thought may fix the problem based on our conversation over the phone. Unfortunately, the parts did not solve the issue so he went back to the Home Depot near my house to purchase something more precise now that he has actually seen what the issue was. That didn’t work either so we had to shut off the hot water from the entire house until he could get to a specialty plumbing store the next day which was a Monday. He would’ve gone immediately had the store been open on a Sunday. A couple of hours passed and I noticed water coming out of the tub and called George to notify him. George then comes back to my house immediately to fix the problem. It turns out my plumbing is a bit old and faulty so we had to shut off the main water supply to the entire house as opposed to just the hot water. Monday comes and the no specialty plumbing store had my part as it had to be special ordered from the manufacturer which takes 5 business days for it to arrive. Because of George’s persistence he was able to hunt the part down at a not so nearby plumbing store and come back to the house and saved us. Before knowing all these headaches and running back and forth would transpire George sent me a quote and stuck to it without me asking which is refreshing in comparison to what I have dealt with in the past. Thank you George for your integrity and hard work. I apologize for taking you away from your wife and kid on a Sunday but I am very grateful that you came to our rescue. You will be my go to guy from now on for all my plumbing needs.

Mark is fantastic. He did several jobs at our home in Redlands, and completed them very efficiently. All work was done to the highest standards, and very quickly. Everything from start to finish in each job went exactly as planned and Mark conducts himself like a true professional. Coming from a family of contractors, I can genuinely say that Coastal Handyman Connection is the real deal. Fantastic work at a very reasonable price!

After many years, my garbage disposal stopped working. I did an online search and found Thumbtack for the first time. I thought this service was just fantastic! I put in my request and immediately received two quotes. I was contacted by the owner of Pro Appliance Installers, Jesse. After a brief discussion, Jesse sent out two local contractors, Theo and Tech, to install my new garbage disposal. These guys were amazing! They were extremely efficient, thorough, and thoughtful of explaining the process to me. They took their time to make sure everything was done correctly and done right. I would highly recommend them for any job you need completed.

At 11pm on a Saturday night, we had a sewage backup. Our toilet was clogged beyond plunging, sewage was coming up in a bathtub, and water was backed up in another shower. Al came out and saved us! He was great to work with--very nice, straight-forward, quick to arrive, and professional (his quote was accurate, too). 5-stars, highly recommend. thank you, Al! We decided to install a hot tub in the backyard but needed a 220 connection away from the house. We tried to do some of the work ourselves by prepping an 18" trench for an electrician to come and wire. The soil was tough and the job harder than we thought. American Castles came and picked up where we left off, dug the remaining trench, connected the line, installed the box, and even recessed some of the line behind the stucco for a better visual. They didn't cut corners, showed up in a big team, and took care of everything without a problem. Price was reasonable. I would hire again.

Great company to work with. We had water damage from a running toilet and had no idea what steps to take moving forward. Diamond House was able to resolve my toilet issue, get a restoration company out to take care of the water damage, and then remodel my whole bathroom. (Everything ended up being covered through my insurance.) I can't imagine what a headache I would have to deal with if I had another company come out and service my home. Not to mention very few companies know the insurance process. All in all, what was a very stressful situation turned out to be a blessing thanks to Diamond House.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often do you clean a septic tank?

For homeowners with a septic system, it’s important to have a regular septic cleaning schedule. To protect ground and drinking water, the Environmental Protection Agency recommends residential septic cleaning every three years. Many septic system companies state that you can maintain a healthy system with regular septic cleanings every three to five years. In addition to cleaning, a septic tank inspection once a year will uncover problems and can save you thousands in cleanup and repair.

When waste goes into your septic system, it separates into three parts. The solids (sludge) drop to the bottom, wastewater floats in the middle, and a layer of scum rises to the top. Regularly scheduled cleanings prevent the sludge in your septic tank from building up and clogging your tank, leading to an overflow. Pricing for a standard septic cleaning ranges between $200 and $500, with the national average cost at $315. It’s easier, more cost-effective, and better for your home health to keep your septic tank maintained.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

Who pumps septic tanks?

Septic system professionals pump septic tanks. Pros in different states will have different licensing and certification regulations. Make sure the company you hire is licensed and certified, is a legitimate business, and has the appropriate insurance. Damage to your septic system could cost thousands of dollars in cleanup and repair, so it’s best to hire a qualified professional from the start.

Using an industrial-strength vacuum hose connected to a tanker truck, the septic tank company will pump out the contents of your tank. First they break up the scum of the top layer, then mix the sludge (on the bottom) into the wastewater for removal. To get all the sludge and scum from the tank, pros may use a tool called a septage spoon that loosens stubborn waste from the sides of the tank. After the tank is hosed down and empty, it is inspected for any cracks or leaks that could lead to trouble in the future. The waste in the truck is then transported and disposed of at a waste management treatment center, a cesspool or an approved dumping site.

When should you clean a septic system?

Experts agree that you should clean your septic system every three to five years for optimal system health and safe water. You should also have it inspected every year to catch minor issues before they become major. If you think you may be overdue for a septic cleaning, here are signs that you should call a pro immediately.

  • You’re at capacity: If the bottom of the scum layer is within six inches of the bottom of the tank’s outlet or if the top of the sludge layer is within 12 inches of the outlet, your tank needs to be pumped, according to the EPA.
  • It stinks: If you can smell wastewater, call a pro right away to clean your tank, pipes and field.
  • Sewage backup: Raw sewage backing up into the pipes in your home is no fun. The pros can pump out your pipes, clean your tanks and clear any clogs, but it will be a complex and messy job.
  • Pooling water: Water collecting around your tank or drain field can be a sign you need to clean your septic system.
  • Super grass: If the grass above your septic system drain field suddenly gets vibrantly green and lush, the septic tank leak could be leaking sewage and fertilizing your lawn in unwanted ways. Call a pro to inspect it right away.

How much is it to clean a septic tank?

Nobody wants their septic tank to back up. Regular septic cleaning and pumping is important to keep your ground and drinking water protected from harmful bacteria. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends septic system cleaning every three years. The national average cost for a septic tank specialist is $315. Costs for septic cleaning may vary based on where you live, how large your septic tank is, and how long it has been since the last cleaning. If it’s been many years since you’ve had your tank cleaned, the process of breaking up and removing the solids may take longer and could cost more. Typical residential septic tanks range in size from 1,000 to 2,500 gallons. The price range for septic cleaning usually averages $200-$500, with varying by tank size. Repairs or replacement parts will also add to your cost. To keep your septic tank in good health between cleanings, only flush approved items such as toilet paper, and don’t rely on your garbage disposal for composting. Items that don’t break down easily (like lemon rinds or feminine hygiene products) can back up the septic system, leading to clogs and overflow. If you smell the unmistakable odor of sewage or can see sewage bubbling up above your drain field, call for a septic cleaning immediately.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
