Guitar and drum lessons. James is amazing. Personable, easy going, and professional. Teaches according to student's abilities and desires. Can learn any song you want to learn and then show you in a manner you can handle.
I have been taking guitar lessons from Kimberly via Skype for about six years. I really like her teaching style which is systematic and focused. She tailors her lessons to my goals and time. Her teaching method is to help you gain insight and skill through patient practice of gradually changing exercises. She doesn't snow you with theory, but presents it to you in digestible amounts just when it will make sense. She welcomes questions and I always learn from our discussions. She has led me to learn techniques on the guitar that I was absolutely sure I could never learn. For something to seem impossible at the start, to seem possible a week later and to be routine a month later is amazingly uplifting. Kimberly's background was first a life of teaching herself and playing gigs with all kinds of bands in all kinds of places. She has also deepened and strengthened her knowledge by gaining academic degrees in guitar and jazz and also by studying under masters. This gives her an incredibly deep understanding of learning and teaching music, an immense skill in playing guitar, and an appreciation for the challenges of playing with other people. I especially love her continued enthusiasm for guitar and that she really enjoys teaching. I have found in Kimberly the best of teachers and highly recommend her without reservation.
I wanted to start drum lessons in the area and didn't know where to start. A friend mentioned and recommended Stefano. He's a great teacher and definitely knows his stuff. His experience has allowed me to go at my own pace while integrating theory he's taught me and implementing them in my drum playing.
As a former professional musician, I have had a lot of experience with music instructors, and know what qualities make a great teacher. Alex has been my son's drum teacher for seven years now, and has done an outstanding job. He is patient, clear in his instruction, and challenges my son to reach his full potential. Although my son is only 11, he's begun playing with an intermediate-level improvisation class in town that is made up of teens and adults, and has been excelling. I know there is no way he would have gotten this far without Alex's guidance and encouragement. When Alex moved to California a couple of years ago, I was concerned that his lessons with my son would not be as strong without his actual presence. However, we have maintained weekly lessons via skype, and the lessons have been as strong as ever. We also send him short clips during the week of my son's progress, and we get almost instant feedback and guidance. Alex has also taken the time to get to know my son, including his other interests and sensibilities. I can't imagine a better teacher for my son. We feel very blessed. I give Alex my strongest endorsement.
GREAT DRUM TEACHER! I HAVE A BLAST EVERY SINGLE TIME I GO TO MY LESSON !!!!!
My son has been taking drum lessons from Damien for the past 8 years now. Damien plays many instruments including drums, guitar, and bass. He is always a professional. He walks the students out after each lesson to say a quick hello to the parent. He is always well dressed and treats each lesson as important. He is an extremely talented musician and I'm so happy we found him. My son still looks forward to seeing him each week after all these years, and really has become a great drummer under Damien's instruction.
Nolan is a consummate professional, both with his drumming skills and his demeanor. He is able to be firm enough with my 10 year old son (who thinks life revolves around video games), yet never overbearing. This is perfect for a kid with a short attention span! I appreciate the way he challenges my son and encourages him at the same time. I have been a life long musicians playing guitar and singing for over 25 years, and with all the drummers I know, if I was going to take drum lessons I would want to take them from Nolan!
I started taking drum lessons later in life as I've always wanted to learn. After a great birthday present from a friend I started lessons with Mike. He is great at listening to what I wanted to learn and was very, very patient with me. I've always had trouble reading music but he taught me in no time and made the lessons very fun and interesting. He let me pick the songs I wanted to learn and he would even play along to help me get it right! Mike is a very talented drummer, musician and teacher. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is interested in learning the drums, he'll have you playing in no time!!
Efrein is teaching me theroy and steel pan drum. Hes very patient with my learning skills. I am learning quicker then I thought I would. I would recommend him because he is very knowledgeable in music. jh
My son started formal drum lessons with Steve two and a half years ago. Steve set the bar on professionalism, flexibility, communication, and has the patience to teach music to younger kids. My son went from a kid banging on a toy drum, to a musician that could play drum set rhythms in an elementary school jazz band. We've had other instructors since Steve left the Los Alamitos area but none of them compared to his high level of attributes listed earlier.
Steve is an excellent teacher with vast knowledge of drum techniques and styles. He is a very relatable and friendly person who has a method of teaching that can work with almost any student. We are still doing lessons and I am thoroughly enjoying each one.
Frank is a great teacher. I have progressed in my drum skills since working with him.
My son began taking drum lessons with Lindsay via skype at 6 years old. He will be 9 next month and is still loving his drum lessons. He has learned so much in such a short period of time. Not only is Lindsay clearly a skilled drummer but is also an apt teacher. She is patient while pushing my son to improve his skills. I know from personal experience that learning an instrument can be frustrating to the point that the student will want to give up. This is especially true for a kid. Lindsay understands this and has the ability to balance progress with patience. I highly recommend Lindsay as a drum teacher!
Mike is a true professional in every sense of the word. His extensive knowledge and skill of his craft is extraordinary!!! A pleasure to work with ! Highly recommended!!!
We love having Brian Griffin as a drum/percussion teacher. My son began lessons as a young elementary student, and Brian was able to engage him immediately by creating lessons around the music he was drawn to. Over the years Brian's teaching continually evolved with my son's interests and focus. There has always been an excellent rapport between them, while maintaining the dynamic of student/teacher relationship. Brian has always shown a high level of professionalism, he's always engaged and enthusiastic, and my son has developed not only in the mechanics of percussion but also what it means to be part of an ensemble and just an overall well-rounded musician. We are grateful for his years of instruction and support.
Michael is an excellent teacher and knows about many percussion instruments, not just drums. He makes learning fun and engaging. He's also very patient with kids.
In addition to being technically proficient, I was raised by the music of dc so in my playing one can hear a spectrum of different feels from high energy hardcore and punk tempos to the slow pocket of dc's indigenious groove music, go go.

With over 35 years of drum instruction experience, hundreds of students from ages 6 to 50+ years with experience ranging from beginner to seasoned-pro. Mark has a proven tract record with lessons tailored to meet the students needs. Mark is patient, organized and results oriented. Marks style of teaching is relaxed and incorporates years of experience. His years of teaching have given him an understanding that people learn differently and no two students are exactly alike. What this means is that lessons are tailored to each student in order to meet them at their level of ability and comprehension. Students may lean towards being more Visual Learners, Auditory Learners, Kinesthetic Learners or a combination thereof which is what makes drumming a fantastic vehicle to increasing brain function. As is said, "Neurons that fire together, wire together." For example: Mark employs having a student read drum notation while singing and playing the rhythm on the drum set. Perhaps more importantly is Marks ability to tap into his students desire to play drums, keeping it fun while he helps them move towards mastery of the instrument.
Before learning from private teachers and attending music college, I was self taught. I have a good perspective on how to communicate with those who are beginners. I take pride in my own creative ways of teaching.
My goal is to enable the students to express their musical ideas on the instrument beyond the impediments of technical limitations. A lot of drummers sadly have to depend on preconceived licks and patterns in order to produce a decent performance. To solve this problem I have created concepts and use famous books/exercises that explore all the possible combinations that could come up in an improvisational or sight-reading context. While the students go through my method, they find out that the gap between thinking something musical and executing it on the instrument will gradually get smaller until eventually disappearing completely. At that point, the student will be able to pretty much express anything he thinks about or hears in the moment on the drum kit.
