Hello! My name is Summer and I am an award-winning pianist, composer, orchestral arranger, and string contractor who’s performed for TEDx events, The Ellen Show, and countless tours and live showcases with the likes of Bebe Rexha, Roddy Ricch, Circa Survive, Chon, Anthony Green, Naia Izumi, Chief Keef, Until the Ribbon Breaks, Dayseeker, etc. I additionally play for celebrity and luxury weddings, upscale parties, and corporate events. As a studio and touring musician, I’ve performed at venues including Terminal 5 (NYC), House of Blues San Diego, Pomona Glass House, The Sinclair (Boston), The Shrine (LA), Sayreville Ballroom (NJ), Peppermint Club (LA), Garden Amp (Garden Grove), and more. I have performed for over 1,000 events including weddings, corporate events, fundraisers/charity galas, holiday parties, etc. — either as a solo pianist or in a duo, trio, quartet, or quintet with string players or rock band instrumentation. I have been blessed with a wonderful ear and so even though I was classically-trained and can read music, I now learn most of my songs by ear, which also plays an instrumental role in my strong, unique improvisation skills when performing, arranging, and composing. This also enables me to give my piano students a great background in ear-training and rhythm which I believe is integral in the making of any good pianist (aside from the obvious performance and theory aspects to playing and composing). I must also credit my wonderful piano teachers who helped shape me musically; I learned from the absolute best and want to pass on the knowledge they have imparted upon me. I integrate music theory, ear training, and rhythm training into all of my piano lessons and received my piano teaching credential from Yamaha Music Schools when I was 12 (youngest person to pass the Level 5 exam). I also am a music arranger and music contractor as well, and can write my own unique arrangements of songs you’d like to hear performed and can contract other musicians to perform along with me for an additional fee per musician—instead of only solo piano/keyboard (violinists, singers, guitarists, flutists, cellists, violists, bassists, drummers, etc.). We are the best studio and touring musicians in California, so our premium performances come at premium rates (as they say, “You get what you pay for”). You can find many of my arrangements (many solo piano, others with strings) on Spotify and iTunes by just searching “Summer Swee-Singh”. I should also note here that should your venue not provide a tuned, acoustic piano with 88 working keys and sustain and soft pedals, I can provide a keyboard (and speaker) to perform on for an additional fee; your venue would just have to provide two working three-pronged outlets, a power strip, and extension chords in this case. I am currently only taking on mask-wearing students or remote (online) students at this time. I am only looking to take on older children (teens) and adults as students who are serious about practicing.See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much do mariachi bands cost?

The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance.

Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days.
