David is a real professional contractor .His knowledge of the concrete job I had hired him to do ,far exceeded my expectations. He also did stucco repairs to the exterior of our Apts and demolition and removal on certain areas of the complex. His rate was fantastic and he finished the total job way ahead of schedule, Thank You Mr Garcia for a job well done .I recommend D G Construction for all your construction needs.

Contacted George with a list of projects I had in mind, but needed a price to see how much I could get done and what the costs would be. George came over to give me a quote and a breakdown of costs of each project and payment schedule, which I appreciated. We went ahead with the work. One of the bigger projects we had George and his team do was to knock down our existing patio and concrete and put up a new one. Old patio was 15' x 20' we did a new 15' x 40' patio. Very happy with the quality of work and the patio itself. Other projects include removing bulkhead and putting up new drywall, installing can lights, new roof, and putting up new doors. I was most impressed by two things - 1) the open communication between us, and 2) the professionalism and politeness from George and his workers. Even little hiccups were properly communicated and worked out. I will definitely be working with them again.

Excellent communication and workmanship. They took great care not to spill or splatter the other concrete portions of my driveway. I am happy to give Ryan and his crew high marks.

We've used Bert for 3 concrete projects now and we highly recommend him to anyone looking for great, high quality work at a good price. Bert is always punctual. He and his crew always arrive at the time when he says they'll be there. He works efficiently and always finishes his projects on-time. One of the great things about Bert is that he works very clean. You don't have to worry about your property looking like a mess as Bert and his team clean up after themselves at the end of every day on the job000. I can't say enough about Bert's friendly demeanor and integrity. He goes the extra mile to solve any issues that come up and if there are any problems he makes sure the they are corrected. Bert even stopped by the day after a project was done and handed me some money explaining that I had overpaid with the check that I had given him. You'd be hard pressed to find someone more honest and straight forward. Give Bert a call for your next concrete, masonry or patio cover project and you can sit back worry-free knowing it's going to be done right.

They did a good job. My expectations were probably a bit high as the stripping that was first done was not the super thick crisp lines you see in store parking lots. Sam did have his guys come back out and fix all the issues we had without any argument and even cut me a great deal on the removal of old asphalt along with concrete and dirt that they don't recycle.

MGB did great work and I got a smoking hot deal on the price. I dealt with Eric, he did most of the work himself tore out the old asphalt driveway smoothed out the dirt graded everything and got it all ready for concrete. The only problem we had was the people from the city told me my main water line was at least two feet underground, of course it was only 3inches under the dirt so as Eric was grading he hit the water line, The only complaint I have is MGB has it in the contract if they hit or damage any utility's they are not responsible.I understand but I think that is bad business practices and it would have been nice to at least had some help fixing it and not to have been repairing a water line I did not break at 10:30 at night. Moving on, we had the driveway widened and the guys did a great job. I would recommend MGB to anyone for a Job like this. Just make sure you know where all of your utility's are.

Had Sergio do a bunch of odd jobs that were "too small" for other contractors in the area to waste there time with at a shopping center I manage. (Changed out some outdoor lighting, replaced a cover plate on a junction box, welded a door, broke up some concrete) I negotiated everything over the phone. He took pictures of the completed job. He's was quick, his pricing was fair and he didn't sweat me for a check 5 minutes after he finished. Great experience. Thanks Sergio, see you next time.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time. When hiring a paving contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
  • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
  • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
  • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
  • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
  • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.
