Unfortunately, I didn’t get to work with Van Egeren Cosmetology because my sister (the bride) had already booked someone without telling me. But Van Egeren was very good at responding to messages. She replied in a timely manner and was very professional. Her rates seem to be very reasonable. I would definitely book her the next time I need makeup/hair!

My hair was absolutely beautiful! I had one idea before Theo arrived but I gave her complete control and I am so glad I did! My hair turned out better than I had imagined! Everyone complimented me on it. Theo was very professional and friendly. Felt like I’ve known her for years. I was nervous but she made me feel so relaxed and beautiful when all was done. I highly recommend her!

Theo was great to work with! She did my hair and makeup for my wedding, it was a request made a week before and she was so accommodating. Both hair and makeup were beautiful and I received many compliments throughout the night. Thank you!!

The name of this business changed right after my experience. It was Van Egeren and now seems to be Pearl Melt. Theo was very friendly and quick to respond to messages. Unfortunately, we had to reschedule the hair trial for my wedding about five times -- two of which were my own fault with scheduling. The last time was about two weeks before the wedding when Theo experienced car troubles right before the appointment, after which I did not hear back for another week. I finally had to book with another stylist about a week before my wedding and without getting to do a hair trial because we were cutting it so close. This is not how I hoped for this all to happen and it has become a stress point for the big day. Hopefully my experience was a fluke but I felt I should share it. Planning a wedding is stressful enough, and vendors really have to bring their "A" game. I just did not get that experience here.
Sep 19, 2019VerifiedPearl Melt LLC's replyHi Jen! Sorry if you were confused, this business was officially declared as an LLC because it is expanding and hiring more people, hense the name change:) If you'll remember, we rescheduled three times, twice on the day of the trial because you didn't have time. I do apologize for the car trouble, I know that can be frustrating. You'll be happy to know we are back up and running and have not had an issue before or since! I'm sure you'll have an amazing wedding, congratulations!

Peart Melt was awesome to work with - accommodating, very quick to respond and totally professional. I wasn't able to hire her this time but will definitely do so the next time I need a make-up artist.

FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? My current services are only priced at about 70% of what they would be normally because I am new on this site and am working on building a portfolio. I consider your contribution to my portfolio compensation in and of itself! I provide trials, lashes, glitter, and skincare as add-ons.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? My first step is to have a customer fill out a client questionnaire to better understand your, skin, hair, and the look you have in mind. If you're looking to book with less than 2 weeks notice, we'll schedule a phone consultation and discuss the job, how I would fit, as well as your priorities for the project. If you're booking more than 2 weeks in advance, I offer a $20 trial which is a house call! I bring my kit to you to get to know your skin and hair and to try out a few different ways to create the look. We can go off of a picture or an idea which you have about the look, and experiment with a few ways to make your look work. While we work I create a small portfolio on your look, taking notes and brainstorming products. During this trial, we also create a potential schedule for your event, especially in cases with large bridal parties. On the day of your event, I come with my kit and your portfolio, organized and ready to create the perfect look.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have been doing makeup since the age of 12 and hair since I was 13. I began with friends and it slowly transformed from a hobby to a job. I have worked multiple weddings, designed looks for competitive dance teams, and a photoshoot. I have taken masterclasses in Chicago and work to continue my education at every opportunity.
