Michael is passionate about reorganization and decorating. He helped me declutter and organize my closets, living room, kitchen as well as my art supplies and studio room. Art can be hard to organize for someone without context but Michael worked with me to understand my needs well and customized every idea. He is a pleasure to work with and took great care and thought in setting up my home as if it were his own.

I met Michael last June while I was at a Spa Resort in St Helena. He was renovating several of the rooms there and I was very impressed with how beautifully he transformed the spaces. We spoke briefly and he gave me his card and explained that he also did staging, interior decorating, flowers and party planning. A few months later when I was planning a 40th birthday party I contacted him to see if he could assist. Initially I was expecting to have him decorate and maybe do some floral arrangements. We met and I explained to him that I wanted to do an open house type event, in my home where guests could drop in throughout the day. I knew I needed to maximize my space and needed a menu and some decorative help. He said he could do it all, and I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive. He said he would get back to me and to expect an email. Within two hours I had an appetizer menu, cocktail recommendations, a detailed spreadsheet with a list of supplies needed, the approximate cost and places I could go to find these items and attached images of decorating/ staging ideas that he thought would be appropriate. I quickly realized that he really knew what he was doing, so I hired him to do it all. Over the next three weeks, he was extremely conscientious in keeping me informed of his progress. The night before the event he requested a six hour window of time to work alone, to get everything set up, staged and decorated. Then he brought me in to walk thru and make sure it was all completed to my satisfaction. I have to say I was very very pleased with his work. He said he would be back the next day to put on the finishing touches. But when the guests started to arrive he began showing them in, and taking their coats. He helped make drinks, maintained the bar and buffet table and ended up staying the whole day. He was marvelous and I had the best time enjoying my own party. It was much more than I expected and I could not have done it without him. In January, I was able to hire Michael again for a company event. Annually we bring in our entire National Sales Team to meet and review our sales, new products and host a special awards dinner. This year it was held at the Clift Hotel and I wanted Michael to do all the staging and set up for it. He worked with the hotel staff and did a beautiful job decorating the entrance with lighted balloons simulating clouds (our latest development) he brought in fresh flower arrangements for the banquet room and did little arrangements with candles for the table centerpieces. He even decorated the outside balcony area and the restrooms. Our CEO and Director of Sales were impressed and asked that I bring Michael back for our Holiday event.

I hired Tiffany as a "day of" wedding coordinator. From the start Tiffany kept in touch with me, from clarifying all that needed to be done to what time I needed her and where. She was very organized, on time and did a great job with decorating the venue and setting up. She contacted my vendors within the week of my wedding, allowing me to not have to worry about things. On top of it all, she was extremely kind, which I really appreciated during a stressful time. I would recommend her to anyone needing a hand with wedding planning.

Nicki was always prompt, attentive and full of energy and terrific ideas. Her choices of wall paint colors was also an added and unexpected bonus! It is highly apparent that she is a veteran in the staging industry, and NOT a 'newbie' who chooses the cheap route of pulling strange furnishings out of their friend's homes to use. Nicki was not offended when I requested a stager over a certain age, as I'm decorating in a 50's theme for a real estate listing of mine, and she immediately knew how to proceed. Anyone can come view her work at the upcoming staged home at 1444 Tilia Street in San Mateo, CA, August 10 - September 10, 2016. Jeanette Cook Cook Properties Burlingame Office 650-270-3792

I walked in the office in the beginning of Jan, and my wedding was in Feb. l was super frustrated before I met them, and was seeking help for flower decoration of my ceremony, video and DJ. The team did a wonderful job in making plans for this rush event. The center decoration was a perfect match to what I was looking for. Well done!

C & M Fleuri team made the flowers for my wedding. When my mother and I saw the finished product on my wedding day, we were filled with the happiest of emotions. The bouquets, centerpieces, boutonnieres and corsages were made with an immense amount of talent. The aisle decoration was so pretty! I can truly say that I have never seen flowers so beautiful. It was a moment that I couldn't even truly describe in words, and one that I will remember forever. C&M Fleuri exceeded everything I could have ever imagined. They are extremely organized and accommodating from the beginning up to the final moments before I walked down the aisle. The flowers lasted a long time. Their prices were very reasonable. I would highly recommend them to everyone. All of our wedding guests have raved about how beautiful the flowers were!

Velina did the flowers for my wedding and they were GORGEOUS. I told her what the venue was like and a basic outline of what I hoped the wedding would look like, but then just told her to do whatever she thought best and what I got was fantastic. The flowers were beautiful and fresh and got so many compliments. Our bridesmaids and groomsmen were sortof a mismatched look and many of the boutonnieres and corsages were just a little different which I loved because it worked really well with our coordinated but not matching look. Velina was professional and very easy to work with and very responsive. If you're looking for a stress-free, beautiful floral and wedding-design experience, I can't recommend Velina enough.

Midsummer Night’s Project: I found Raquel on very short notice, 2 days before our party. My other team member was sick during the week & wasn’t sure she was going to make it to the party. Raquel is professional, punctual, sharp, personable, reliable and creative. I’ll tell you why… The Task: String artificial floral vines to sets of balloons in 2 hours or less. The day of the party there was a major detour to the venue. The street to get to the venue was blocked! The police officers guarding the blocks let me through after I explained to them I’ve got a party right where it’s being blocked & I’ve got all sorts of decorations. They let people through as long as you’ve got an event :). With that major detour Raquel still managed to be on time. She parked her car parallel to the blocked street (so smart!). When she got to the venue she gave me a warm smile. She knew I was a bit stressed with the whole detour issue. I explained to her in less than 5 minutes of my vision & she did a great job. Raquel is a great listener & a quick study. My other team member showed up and I had Raquel take the lead. She explained to her and eventually the event planner who came to help as well what to do. She has great communication skills. There were other things happening at the party that she was privy which I was clueless to & Raquel “translated” party lingo to me which helped me make quick & sounds decisions. I’ve only met Raquel that one time & I knew by her demeanor & work ethic that I can rely on her that I’m in good hands. My stress level really diminished…yay! Raquel didn’t do just the job given her, she went above & beyond. She was very creative & proactive. Without being asked, Raquel thought of a way to make the cake table look spectacular! Raquel is sensitive to my wants that she communicated with me her plan first. Raquel strategically placed floating floral vines at the back of the cake table. I believe Raquel has photos. I was so busy with everything else I didn’t find the time to take décor photos. The result was just beautiful! I think after reading this you’ll find that I cannot say enough good things about Raquel. I won’t be surprised the next time I ask her to rescue me that she’ll be booked. Raquel…thank you for everything! You made it such a magical day for us :). 

The stress I was feeling about moving out of my Hollywood home was overwhelming. I needed someone that was going to hold my hand through the process. After shopping around for the best deal, this was it for me. Having people come into my home is very personal and I also needed confidentiality. Kay and her team were very friendly and accommodating to my needs. Everything ran smoothly and they earned my trust. All my personal belongings were in good hands and it was not stressful at all. When I moved into my new home, they were there to help me unpack and decorate. It was fun working with the same team throughout the entire process. My new home is great thanks to Kay!

Maria Billingsley is awesome. Full stop. She completely transformed our house in a way that we had never considered – We did not know how to decorate to have a cozy warm look, but yet her magical brain broke through it. It was an amazing - and so pleasant! experience. We would unreservedly recommend Maria to anyone looking for creative, colorful, and unconventional interpretations of space that coulda-shoulda been standard. We quite literally have people asking for her name every time they come into our home. Thanks Maria!

We hired Fay and her team to work on our mountain hotel lobby renovation and club house. We were truly impressed by the her team's creative thoughts and efficiency. We hired an architect before them but ISO ideas produces much better quality work and with fast turn around. They were very versatile to address our requests and very friendly professionals to work with. I highly recommend to other business and home owners.

Matt came to our home to give us some ideas for how to redesign two of our rooms. He was great. He was very easy to work with, and we loved the product he gave us. Matt laid out three different options for each room - some with our existing furniture, and some with new furniture. Each option was clear, and Matt explained his thoughts and reasoning behind each one. We are very happy with the work he did.

Diane and her team created an exquisitely beautiful birthday party in our back yard. They brought furniture and decorations, put up lights and candles, helped hire a bartender and created a customized bar. The flowers, the attention to detail and all the decorations surpassed my expectations. The staff that helped us with serving and clean up worked hard and made everything flow smoothly. I highly recommend Revel!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

    • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
    • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
    • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
    • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

    • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
    • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
    • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
    • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
