John and his crew were amazing to watch work. Excellent value for the service they provide. John initially came over to fix my broken valves and do some minor maintenance to the sprinkler system. What I thought was going to be an easy fix turned out to be a new homeowner's nightmare. I ended up having broken lines under my concrete, huge tree roots blocking pipes, and even a tree branch that fell and tried to brain John and his workers. John was an absolute trooper and dedicated his time to fix everything and work around all of the issues. It turned out to be a rather expensive job, but considering the hiccups that happened, I'm very happy. Everything is working, the timer is installed, and the pipes are flowing. I highly recommend John for all of your sprinkler needs.

To Whom It May Concern: Mr. Balter De La Cruz just finished the removal of a 60' plus tree on my property in Granite Bay! Pictures of the removal are attached. This removal was a very delicate procedure, since the tree abutted my neighbor's property and could have fallen on his/her house and done serious damage to limb and property In almost 79 years and two homes which my wife and I acted as the general contractor, I have never had a better experience than with Mr. De La Cruz. He is everything a general contractor desires: 1. He is so competent in tree removal with over 12 years of first hand experience. 2. His pricing was extremely competitive against six other bids. 3. He is fully bonded and insured, which was very important on this removal. 4. He did exactly what he said he would do and he did it when he said he would do it, which is very unusual in the sub contractor business. 5. He came prepared with all the tools necessary for removal of the tree. 6. He is a delight to do business with! David L. Eastis

I would like to praise Max for the fantastic job that was done on the removal of a very difficult tree removal. Within a few inches of the tree was an electrical box, a work shed, a fruit tree and the neighbors fence. He surgically and carefully removed a tree that was covered with a 30 year old vine that went from the bottom to the top of the tree. He did an amazing job! Thank you. He deserves 5 stars.

I needed my tree removed and messaged Sundance Tree Experts. I had several people that gave me quotes but Sundance seemed a little more responsive than other companies. My tree was split at the trunk due to extreme hot/cold weather conditions. He removed and cleaned up for a reasonable price. I would recommend Sundance Tree Experts for your tree removal needs.

I am very happy with the work this company did for me. It started out as a one time yard clean up due to the fact that my "lawn" is essentially dead but some weeds were still growing and it was unsightly. I am so pleased with the job they did, I decided to have them come out on at regular basis. Very happy with their work.

Miguel Cervantes of cervantes landscaping cleaned up my front lawn and backyard, trimmed the tall bushes on the front yard, trimmed the tall trees in my backyard the next day after he took a look at my house. It was a real transformation and makeover for the curb appeal of my house, and the backyard looked 10 times better at a very reasonable price! Thanks very much, Miguel! I also decided to ask Miguel to help me remove a tree in a week, and look forward to Miguel's professional and meticulous work again!

Dmitry and Tim were great to work with. They are hard working professionals that will spend the time to discuss your project with you and let you know exactly what you can expect. They were very helpful in offering suggestions and opinions that made a lot of sense. The work they performed included removing my dead backyard lawn with a sod cutter, replacing and resetting sprinklers, laying new sod, yard cleanup, bringing in and spreading out mulch and river rock, aerating, seeding and fertilizing my front lawn, planting drought resistant plants, installing new drip lines, sprinkler valve maintenance, pulling and replacing the sprinkler wiring, installing a new WiFi sprinkler timer and setting and fully testing the new system. When they were done they completely cleaned the area so it looked better than when they got there. On top of that, Dmitriy noticed that my downspout straps were missing screws so he went around to all my downspout and secured them. I would highly recommend Dmitriy and would definitely use him again.

My back lawn was overgrown with tall grass & weeds plus tall weeds / grass covered some river rock areas & a small flat porch. Luis did a good job of getting the lawn & tall weed areas fixed & leaves removed from the ground under a couple of trees.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
