Albert did a phenomenal job with my wedding video! He was also a delight to work with! He was so patient and worked ever so hard (my wedding was a 12 hour event!) I think the hardest part for him was editing the video and making sure all the highlights I wanted were included in my video. He did not disappoint! I got every clip I wanted, and he incorporated all my favorite music and did everything I had requested. It's been a year since my wedding and recently watched the video again and all the best memories were captured! Thank you Albert for being the most responsive, patient person to work with and developing a quality wedding video that my husband and I (and now our daughter) will always enjoy!!!!

Lawrence did a fantastic job on my wedding photography and video. His stills and video are all beautiful and very creative. Everyone who's seen our wedding photos want to hire him for their next event! In addition to having a great eye and skills, he was also very professional, friendly and accommodating. He even drove us to the Golden Gate Bridge for pics after the wedding and then to our wedding dinner! I could not recommend Lawrence more highly. Great photographer and great guy!

Kuks did the most incredible job shooting photos for my best friend's very private rooftop wedding. The photos came out beautifully and perfectly captured the magic of the event. The whole experience was totally relaxed and natural-we never felt like we were 'posing for the camera'. He was able to catch such sweet intimate moments of the ceremony completely candidly. I am so glad that I have his contact info for future events and I will absolutely recommend him to my friends for their photography needs. 5 stars!

So amazing! Ruben was our videographer at our wedding this past weekend and i can’t express how grateful i am to have found him! He was incredibly responsive and was eager and willing to answer any questions that i had. We decided on a videographer last minute and after researching multiple companies that were available on our date, i was confident that he was the right choice just by our conversation on the phone. I can’t wait to see our highlight video that he’s putting together! I know we are gonna love it!

We used LuvlyProduction for our wedding photobooth in May 2018. I was impressed by their responsiveness and their desire to make sure we had a good experience working with them. Our guests really enjoyed the props and enclosed photobooth!!! I had no complaints from our coordinator about setup or teardown. Would not hesitate to book again :)

We were on the fence about hiring a videographer for our wedding but so many people suggested it. I was happy to find Nicholas on Thumbtack. He was right in our price range and by the looks of his website, he was pretty good at what he did as well. We booked him several months in advance but he was always quick to get back to me any time I had questions. I really appreciated that! The wedding day went well, they showed up on time and ready to go. The only thing I personally would have done differently was meet beforehand. With us living so far apart, we didn't get a chance to meet in person and I think that would have helped my comfort level a little more. But they did great work, stayed long enough to capture all of the great moments and made sure to include everything important to us. I was very surprised at how quick we received our highlight video back and fell in love with it. I watch it every day if not several times a day. Nicholas did a wonderful job capturing a day that will forever be the best day ever for us :) He comes highly recommended!

We could not be happier with our decision to work with Minea and team. They were absolute professionals and results were stunning. From the beginning, Minea was attentive to our vision and expectations. Her experience made the process easy - we never had to worry about videography leading up to and during our wedding. Moments, small and large, were captured beautifully and we're grateful to have had such talent capturing our special day.

We hired Alex as our wedding videographer for our May 2017 wedding and I would highly recommend him and his crew for your special day! He was very professional, detailed, and attentive to our vision and we are absolutely in love with the video he created for us! He captured all the details and moments without us even noticing he was there and and now we have a wonderful video to look back upon and remember our wedding day! He also was quick to respond to texts and emails and we got our product very quickly after our wedding day! Thanks Alex!!

Amazing! Keida and his wife Abbie really captured the essence of our day. We love our video! If you're on the fence about using a videographer for your wedding hire them. It really is a must have as the day will go by in a blink and you get to see a lot of what you had forgotten or missed. It is so awesome to have a video. I would recommend using them for your wedding or real estate video. Fast turn around and respectful of other vendors. Thank you, Keida and Abbie!

Sean of Kurtela Video Productions was great to work with for our May 18 wedding. Before the big day, I talked to Sean about what we were looking for and the type of shots we wanted; he listened, asked great questions, offered wonderful advice, and really got a feel for us as a couple. I felt really comfortable with him from the start. On the wedding day, he showed up on time and set-up really quickly. He captured so many wonderful memories that we didn't even know he was there for. He was very professional and accomodating. I was running late on make-up and asked him to come back a little later because I wanted my eye make-up to be done. He was quick to offer filming the groomsmen then and coming back. And he came back right on time! And the groomsmen were so happy to get the extra time with them in their sunglasses. He worked well with our photographer as well, which was extremely important to us. And captured unbelievable shots! The best part was that he got our trailer to us so fast that he beat the site coordinator from posting photos on Facebook! That is how quick he was. We received our final video way before his due date too. If you have the opportunity to hire Sean as your videographer for your special occasion, I would recommend him completely.

We worked with Jim for our wedding video, and he did an excellent job from beginning to end. For something so special as this, we wanted to be sure we hired somebody that we could trust, and that was open to the particular style that we wanted to accomplish. Jim was very responsive to our initial inquiry, and made sure to set up time where we could meet or facetime to discuss our vision. We were happy to learn that Jim had tons of experience in wedding videography. He answered all of our questions, and also gave us ideas and insights as to how other brides and grooms have set up their videos. He was a terrific listener and took to heart our preferences. He communicated with us regularly before the wedding, and on the wedding day showed up right on time to kick things off. He was not intrusive at all and fit right into the flow of the day. The shots he was able to get as a one-man show were terrific you'd think he had a whole team with him!! He captured the beauty of the day, the venue, the feelings before, during and after the ceremony, the guests, the fun, everything!!! We were extra appreciative that our wedding had an unexpected delay before the reception, and Jim stuck around like a trooper and didn't miss a beat. We were so pleased watching the final video, that this is something we will treasure for the rest of our lives. Talk about great value. As somebody unfamilar with videography, I felt nervous about picking the right vendor, but feel very lucky that we stumbled across Jim. Highly recommend!

We knew Nick was the right photographer for our wedding when we saw his portfolio full of the most joyful, natural wedding photos! And he delivered -- we ended up with so many amazing moments captured, from the ceremony to the dance floor. Everyone looks so beautiful and happy in our photos, that we can easily relive that awesome day by looking back through our photo book. Nick and his assistant were extremely professional, but also fun, nice, and easy to work with. We got our photos in a timely fashion, and felt like we got a lot of bang for our buck. I would highly recommend Nick to anyone getting married in the Bay Area!

We decided last minute to hire a videographer for our wedding, literally the day before. We’re so glad we found Dennis. He got our video done super quickly and it’s beautiful. Brought us both to tears.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
