We are an older couple who have never owned a dog before so the training process seemed overwhelming before our session with Beth Jeffery. Beth is a warm, immediately likeable person who has a very practical method that she communicates in a motivating way. Since she's written a book on the subject of training puppies, she knows how to share her information in a way you can remember and put into practice after she's gone. It's made a big difference to to us because she is able to let us understand how what we do and say is interpreted by our dog. We now appreciate our dog in a new way because we relate with our dog differently. Our dog is better behaved and more confident too. It's been rewarding and fun too!
The business owner, Paula is a gem in a basically unregulated industry. She is a true dog whisperer and my labernese puppy, Drogo absolutely loves her. Paula practices only positive reinforcement; she is intuitive, gentle, kind and patient with both Drogo and me. She is a wealth of knowledge on dog behavior and on how to bring out the best in your dog. Paula is always eager to answer my many questions. I found Paula a couple of months ago when Drogo was 5 months old and out of control. I was in over my head and the last thing I wanted was an out of control large breed dog! Enter Paula... now he is calm and eager to please the majority of the time. The bond Paula is helping us to develop is very strong and I am confident that with her continued coaching, it will grow even stronger. I'm so happy to have found her!
I met Mel when I enrolled my 7-month old labradoodle, Daisy, in her puppy training class. I hadn't had a dog in over 10 years and wanted a well-behaved dog as a companion if I am going to keep her for her lifetime. Mel's method is positive training with treats and repetition. Daisy thrived in the 6-week course and did outstanding during her puppy graduation. I then decided to enroll her into Mel's intermediate dog training class because I still had issues with how Daisy acted in public. It's been 3 weeks into the dog training and I can really see Daisy changing into a better behaved dog. She now knows how to heel when walking, stay for long periods, sit at a corner during her walks, stay until I release her to come to continue with our walk, doesn't go ballistic when she sees another dog & owner walking on the other side of the street and lets go of things she picks up during our walks (like rocks, paper, sticks etc) with the "Leave it" command. Mel really takes the time to explain each new step/lesson during each class. And there are no "Bad Dogs" in training, Always Positive. If I have questions between classes, I just email Mel and she always gets back to me to put me back on track. I definitely will be recommending Mel and her dogpanion dog training to my friends. Thanks, Carolyn & Daisy
I bought a dog (german shepherd puppy) from Kris a couple years ago for sport work. He set me up with training and my dog is THE best trained dog I have ever owned. She has a balanced and stable temperament on top of fantastic obedience and protection. I am so incredibly happy with her and Kris is extremely knowledgeable in dog behavior and dog training of all aspects. I recommend Taylor made Working Dogs for any source of dog training or buying.
Maggie was my trainer in SF until she broke my heart and relocated to San Diego. I really enjoyed our time together as she incorporated things I like to do (Pilates, strength training) into my routine while making sure I never got bored. She also made me do things I don't like (running, stairs) to make sure that my workout was well rounded. I also had never worked out outside before (and didn't think I would like it) and found out that it could be very enjoyable.
We brought our very wild border collie puppy, Max, to Pawsitive Principles for puppy training thinking this would be quite the sports challenge for Bree. We were amazed at how quickly she was able to gain Max's trust and attention. At the second class, Bree was able to teach Max to lie down, using no words or treats, only her eyes, in about 15 seconds. I was shocked (and lost a bet) to say the least. Classes were run with logical progression. Training was tailored to each dog in the class based on their current abilities. Both dogs and owners had a lot of fun. Bree has the rare ability to understand dogs so she can help owners train their pets in a kind, positive manner which makes it enjoyable for all! I would highly recommend any training at Pawsitive Principles.
Just finishing my puppy training and couldn’t be happier with the results. My pup responded well to the positive training techniques. Highly recommend.
Brian trained my dog Bella. I hired him for 3 training sessions and the amount he taught her in just three sessions was awesome. Probably more important than training her, he trained me how to work with her and re-enforce what he taught her. Bella really seemed to like Brian (possibly partly because he always has treats with him!) and she really positively responded to his instruction. He does seem to have an immediate connection to dogs. The training was very interactive and he made sure to address any problems I was having with Bella and offered very practical solutions. I would definitely recommend him if you are looking for someone to train your dog.
Melissa has been here twice already, and our Rottweiler puppy has really improved a lot. I would highly recommend her to train anyone's puppy/dog She is still working with us
Heather was very accommodating and understanding. She joined with us when expressing our frustrations with our dogs' behavior issues and was patient but firm when showing us how to correct some of the issues. Heather reassured us that progress will happen if we are consistent and provided easy to do exercises with our dogs. We look forward to working with her next weekend!
We had a 17 month puppy that was out of control. Well in fact he was in control of our family. The last straw was me tackling him in the front yard to keep him from running out of the house again. We hired Peter Levy to help us with this adorable wonderful stubborn puppy. Within minutes of Peter walking into the house, he looked at our puppy and gave him some type of signal or vibe that he was alpha. From that point on, our puppy changed. He became calmer and more attentive. Peter taught us how to gain control over our puppy and get him to behave better. We learned from him how to be above the puppy in the pecking order. His instructions were very insightful and made so much sense when you realize how pack animals work. He has an instant connection with a dog, and is able to help us get the good behaviors that we need from our dog. We highly recommend Peter as a dog trainer. He is amazing!!!

I like to offer polite people training for a well mannered pup. I encourage gentle, positive training methods to help create a bond between the human & canine family members. Together we will focus on calm, concise communication skills. One of my canine family members is deaf, so you have to option to learn an assortment of non-verbal cues as well as traditional verbal cues. We will customize your training to the goals & priorities of your family expectations. I grew up in the North-East, always having had "fuzzy family" and a love for their companionship and antics. I received my formal training through Animal Behavioral College. Additionally, as a rescue volunteer, not only do I get to enjoy being part of the process of helping pups find their new forever homes, I get to interact with a variety of canine personalities. I look forward to meeting your family team and helping guide your quest for a Happy Household.
