"I've worked out with trainers before, even one that I loved, and the experience with Anthony has still been on a different level entirely. For the last 5 weeks, I have had the pleasure of having Anthony as my trainer. I have found capacities in my body that I didn't know existed. Anthony is hardly summed up by a five star review. Anthony has one of the sunniest and positive personalities you'll never meet. The workouts are different every day and are fun and enjoyable and never boring. The gym environment is also great. From other trainers and other gym goers, everyone is kind, supportive, and encouraging. Expect to be greeted by everyone when you arrive. Since my first day, the atmosphere has been nothing but positive. I feel very welcomed and extremely comfortable. I've been very impressed with my experience thus far. I love the that God's cultivates a great mix of clientele. I see both men and women (regardless of age, level of fitness, or experience) working on their goals."

"I've worked with a few personal trainers over the years and I have to say that hands down, Evan is the best trainer I have ever worked with. I started working out with Evan over a year ago. I have chronic low back pain, and had just had a procedure that was meant to reduce swelling and allow me to exercise more and strengthen my core. I had been doing physical therapy for awhile, but found that the workouts were too mellow, and I didn't really notice any improvement in my core strength. My wife had actually been working out with Evan for a few months and she recommended I try a few workouts with him. Evan has been amazing. The workouts are intense and challenging. He focuses on doing intervals of a quick series of strengthing exercises, with a burst of cardio in between sets that keeps your heart rate elevated for the entire workout. Given my back issues, he is very good about checking in to make sure he is not stressing or straining my lower back (or any other injury I might have picked up). I have noticed dramatic improvement in my core strength and overall fitness in my time with Evan. He also has been willing to email me personalized workouts I can do on my own for days when I'm not working out him. I agree with all the other posts here -- 5 stars. Evan is great. "

"Xavier is an amazing trainer. He has incredible knowledge of the body and how to make it strong. I've been training with him for 6 months and all my friends get to hear about how great he is on my training days. Even more important than being a great physical trainer is his attitude. Xavier gives amazing pep talks, is incredibly positive and really retrains your mind to be patient and not get discouraged along the fitness journey, something I've always struggled with. He has so many positive slogans that now live in my head: "no quit, miss ann", "be like an oak tree", "you got this", "you are strong", "trust in the process", etc. He pushes me and encourages me every Tuesday and Thursday morning and I really look forward to our sessions. I went to Xavier feeling that despite all my efforts I never could gain any muscle. But thanks to him I've gotten so much stronger and I now have the "Tina Turner" arms he promised me in the beginning! I've also cut 2 minutes off my 1 mile time. It's the first time in my life I've made such steady progress. I think it comes down to two things: 1) he knows his stuff, and 2) I look forward to our workouts and so I've been super consistent. If he has an opening, you should definitely get on the schedule! Thanks for everything Xavier!"

" I've worked with other personal trainers in the past. But my experience with John exceeded my expectations for several reasons. Upon meeting him I felt quickly at ease. He was able to quickly assess my physical ability and pushed me just enough past my comfort level. I had an amazing workout! He was very encouraging and positive towards me. It was very obvious he was extremely knowledgeable not only in training but he also came up with a detailed strategy to help me reach my fat loss goals especially with my nutrition. I feel very confidant in his ability to help me. I also know he will keep me free from injury. He exceeded my expectations. It was the best experience I've had with any personal trainer. "

"Gerard is the trainer of trainers, he has stamina, strength, and balance in training me. I am older, and I need to be watched for my strengths and weaknesses. He knows nutrition as well, and combines the training with that skill, which makes him exceptional. He's tough and clear about body building."

"Benjamin Lim is a treasure !! Very professional and knowledgeable about all aspects of fitness training. Super good bargain too. Ben's technique is based on science, not the usual mumbo jumbo. My fitness level is improving dramatically thanks in large part to Ben, though I do also have other personal trainers. If you can only get one trainer, get Ben. Don't waste your time investigating other trainers. You won't find someone better, especially at that price. In case you suspect this review is unreal or biased, it isn't. I never met Ben until he started training me a couple months ago in my home."

"I was lucky enough to have Fana Fuqua as a personal trainer. Fana, listened to my goals, created a program that was within my abilities and pushed me hard enough to improve my overall fitness and stamina! She is kind, patient, inventive and very professional. She is acutely aware of body position and would quickly re position me to improve my stance and avoid injury. My sessions with Fana left me stronger and healthier. I would highly recommend her to help you attain your goals and create a healthier you!! One of my favorite takeaways from her training was to be reminded BREATH! It is amazing how often we hold our breath when we are working out! I hear her voice every day in my current workout regime. "

"I was tremendously fortunate to have had Ms. Wright as my personal trainer. I would highly recommend Jo. She motivated me; she was always focused on what I was doing and offering suggestions on how to improve; she provided a great variety of exercises. I felt great after my sessions. She pushed me appropriately hard but never too hard. Jo was also a wonderfully interesting person to spend time with. I have moved from SF and can no longer train with Jo. That is my huge loss. I very much urge you to try training with Jo. You will not regret it!"

Is kickboxing hard?

Kickboxing is as intense a workout as you want it to be. As with any fitness regimen, the more effort you put in, the more results you will get. The type of kickboxing you do will determine how physically challenging it is. Combat or self-defense kickboxing, where you train in a martial arts studio with sandbags or spar against combat partners, can be an intense physical workout. Group kickboxing classes that use sandbags as part of the workout will also elevate the degree of intensity, because of the level of exertion punching and kicking the bag requires. Cardio kickboxing group fitness, which employ kicking and punching moves but no sandbags, has comparable intensity to jogging but works a wider range of muscles while increasing strength, flexibility and coordination. Here are some of the core kickboxing moves:

  • Cross: A straight punch that you throw slightly across your body, using your dominant hand.
  • Jab: A quick, straight, face punch. Usually thrown with the non-dominant hand.
  • Uppercut: A punch thrown up from the midsection (using either hand) that connects with the underside of your opponent’s chin.
  • Hook: A curved punch (using either hand) that connects with your competitor’s jaw or chin.
  • Side kick: A kick delivered when your competitor is at an angle to you. Raise your leg to the side, then bend at the knee to deliver the kick.
  • Front kick: A kick delivered straight on while you are facing your opponent.
  • Roundhouse kick: A kick delivered by swinging a leg up in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion (depending on which leg you’re using) with momentum to strike the opponent with the instep of the foot.

What should you wear to kickboxing?

What you wear to kickboxing can vary based on the setting. For kickboxing group fitness classes that are part of a gym’s cardio class schedule, standard fitness attire is appropriate. Athletic sneakers, pants or shorts that you can comfortably kick in without getting tangled or flashing anyone, and a top that allows for easy movement when punching and jabbing are all good choices. You won’t need protective gear or gloves, as most cardio-based kickboxing classes do not use punching bags.

Kickboxing training that takes place at a martial arts studio typically requires protective gear. You may need boxing gloves (beginners may want 12-ounce or heavier gloves for more cushioning) and hand wraps that protect and support your hands under the gloves while you punch the bag. If your kickboxing training includes sparring with opponents, you’ll need a mouthguard and any protective head and body gear your studio requires. Always be sure to bring plenty of water, too.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

What do you need for kickboxing?

What you need to bring to kickboxing depends on where you are working out and what your goals are. For a gym or fitness club’s cardio-based group kickboxing class that does not use punching bags, you generally need only appropriate workout gear and enough water. For kickboxers who are training in a martial arts studio, working one-on-one with a trainer toward a specific goal or sparring with competitors, you will need your own boxing gloves (12- to 16-ounce gloves provide more protection for beginners) and hand wraps (to protect and support your hands under the gloves, as well as keep them dry). How much is a boot camp?

Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is.
