Fawn has been coaching me for several months now and it has been a life changing experience. I have never had a coach before Fawn and decided to give it a try because I needed a boost in motivation and some help moving into another career. I was skeptical of the whole coaching thing at first but I am curious by nature and the first session is free so I thought, "why not"? Normally I'll spend a whole day pondering and planning a project and many times not really accomplish much, but in 90 min with Fawn and her "laser focus" approach we always come up with a clear plan of attack. I always walk away feeling supercharged and motivated to take the appropriate steps towards my goals. Sometimes we all need someone to help us organize our thoughts and hold us accountable for getting things done. At no time I feel as if she is telling me what to do. Rather she is great at knowing exactly the questions to ask so that I can reach the solution on my own. I can talk with her about everything from work to relationships as well as my personal challenges. Thanks Fawn! I look forward to continuing our journey together.

We are about to celebrate or 7th anniversary but I can still remember the day like it was yesterday! Mike was very helpful and tailored the premarital counseling to our lifestyle. He listened to us when we asked to keep the ceremony short and sweet. Best of all, he incorporated humorous and meaningful statements that kept our guests interested. If he stilled lived in WA I’d recommend him to all my friends up here.

Emily has such a great and comforting personality. When I meet with her, I feel like I’m really being heard, no matter what tangents I go on. Most importantly, she’s patient and allows time for me to work through my thoughts. I’ve referred friends over to her, and they have raved about her as well. Choose Emily to help guide you in your career or other parts of your life. You will be very happy you did!

I came to Oliver at Verbal Ninja ahead of a big speech that had career and even life changing potential. I was speaking to a large group of fellow doctors, several of whom were what you might call “celebrity doctors.” Frankly, I wanted to upstage them. I myself have an acting background but have always had a lot of stage fright for public speaking. I worked with Oliver over the month leading up to the big event. I knew what I wanted to say, just not quite how to say it. He made my words sound like nothing I’ve ever heard before—yes, that good. Yet it still sounded like me…I felt comfortable and spontaneous. He sort of gave me the voice that I always thought I had inside, if that makes any sense. He also coached my delivery, voice, gestures, movement, eye contact, etc. etc. His tricks to conquer stage fright—especially the psychological aspect—are brilliant. The result? I think I killed it that night. Even my billionaire friend who came to see me said I spoke better than a lot of people he sees that speak on a regular basis. Even the owner of the company had this to say: “Thanks for everything, the event was great and we were very happy that you gave that speech, it was amazing! Not only the way you presented (like an actor) but also the content was very emotional, some tears were shed from Melissa.“ People came up to me afterwards and shared how I changed their view on aesthetics and really motivated them. All the “famous doctors” who spoke alongside me on the panel were super impressed as well. In short, Oliver came to me highly recommended. He leaves me even more highly recommended. If the stakes are high, he’s the guy.

The professional advice given me by Deborah Vinall has proved invaluable on many different occasions in my work and ministry with troubled youth and young adults. She demonstrates a keen insight, empathy, and compassion into the complexities of the human experience. Her gentle understanding of the pain and suffering that leads to addictions, cycles of trauma and abuse, balanced with wise goadings towards boundaries and reclaiming ownership of ones life and actions have modeled a beautiful spirit of cooperation and non-judgemental support. Deborah Vinall clearly exudes the maxim of Tamar Counselling Services : "reclaiming wholeness", as she herself creates safe space for persons in any stage of healing to begin their journey towards doing just that!

Pastor Steve officiated our wedding and did an outstanding job. His counsel was from the heart and genuine. His love for God gave our ceremony the level of spirituality we had hoped for. We are so grateful to have found him, truly a gem.

I keep crossing paths with Carlyle, and each time we meet again, I am more impressed with his dedication and the breadth of his knowledge. When I first met Carlyle, he was a chaplain for Hospice working with children and some of the more difficult cases, even for Hospice. We collaborated with some work investigating indigenous technologies that deal with grieving, community and relationship, and now share some responsibilities guiding a non-profit group doing water projects and education projects in West Africa. Carlyle has provided counseling and support for some people I know well, and I have been able to see up close the compassion and skill that he brings when working with people who are often in some very vulnerable places. He has recommended some powerful practices and rituals to people that have helped them to ground, and better hold and move the energies they are wrestling with. I have the highest regard for Carlyle, and recommend him with no reservations for help with grief and spiritual needs.

I am writing to offer my strong recommendation of Kathy Norton as your advisor and coach in obtaining guidance through the hiring process of employment. Kathy was able to take my former resume and key in on my skills and abilities. With her vast experience in her writing and analytical skills, she was able to convey the important requirements of the job specifications into my resume. She gave me a story that gave me the confidence I was seeking for in the interviewing process. Through her coaching abilities, I was able to convey to the employer that I was a strong candidate for the position. With my old resume and lack of interviewing skills, I had been in search of a new career for over a month. Now with my new resume in hand, and her coaching skills, I have obtained a new career that is a great fit for my employer and myself. In sum, Kathy is an exceptional advisor, a hard working individual who will always go the extra mile for you. I am so grateful to have had Kathy as my advisor and coach. Sincerely, Janine R. Goldman

Randy Moraitis has been my coach through a difficult divorce and subsequent career change. He has the ability to focus in on the areas I most need help with and then works with me to create a realistic plan to effectively move toward and achieve my goals. He listens well and is fully present each time I meet with him, which is highly important to me. As a result of his coaching I was able to navigate my divorce and heal more quickly than I would have without his knowledge and guidance. I continue to work with him to further articulate my career path and how it ties in with my life purpose. Randy is continually furthering his own skills and knowledge through continuing education, which gives me further confidence in his abilities and his heart to bring his best to his clients. Without reservation, I give Randy Moraitis my highest recommendation.

Jessie has played an integral role in shaping my career and quickly became the older sister I always hoped for and wanted. She is one of the most loving and generous people I have ever met - always happy and willing to give her time and energy to those who need it. Jessie truly has a passion for helping others and is always doing what she can to uplift those around her each and every day. Inspiring and empowering both men and women to follow their dreams is what she was put on this earth to do. Over the years Jessie has been there to always cheer me on and guide me through life's crazy twists and turns. I am so grateful for the wisdom she has bestowed upon me. She has helped me so much professionally, but I am most grateful for what she has done for me personally. She has always reflected back to me the person I hope to be, and as a result I can say that she has taught me to truly love myself. Having Jessie as my mentor has been one of my greatest blessings. She is a remarkable human being. These words simply do not do justice to what an incredible mentor she is. Jessie has forever changed my life, and I know if you let her - she will do the same for you!

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

    What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

    • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
    • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
    • Defining your career goals
    • Creating a plan for job searching
    • Improving networking strategies and skills
    • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
    • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
    • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

    Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

    • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
    • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
    • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
    • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
    • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
    • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
    • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
